If it were the property of all matter, we'd still be conscious during sleep. The fact that we're not conscious in sleep indicates that some neural activities must occur.

I've just done an exciting experiment with GPT-3. We know that words can have multiple meanings such as a dog's bark or a tree's bark. In real life, we can easily infer the correct meaning of the words by considering the context. Let's see how good GPT-3 does that. @OpenAI

@ch402 Thanks for the thread. However, I maintain that gradient descent has nothing to do with biology and evolution; it's just mathematics. Second, the beauty of mathematics far exceeds the beauty of evolution and biology. Gradient descent is orders of magnitude smarter than evolution.

@ID_AA_Carmack No they don't contain more information than a single human. Humans pretty much remember all moments of their life, different musics/voices they heard, different books they read, the smells, and different physical activities. Humans memory is far superior than that of LLMs.

@pmddomingos I would call #DeepLearning architectured curve-fitting where the architecture does half of the job of brute force search while the rest is done via backpropagation. In other words, we search for the hyperparameters and then let the network find the parameter.
