My mom just sent this pic of the quilt she's making as a wedding gift for my son and his fiancé. It's called Dresden Plate, and the pieces with vines will be on the border. She says it's been challenging , but the math involved in quilting helps to keep her brain sharp. 😊

Yesterday I told a parent at the library that the reason children enjoy books about magic or supernatural powers is because so much in their lives is outside their control, and reading those stories gives them a sense of agency. And it's not just kids reading for that reason. ✨

Well, it's official now. April 22nd will be my last day of full-time employment as a public librarian. I will do some part-time contract work during the summer, traditionally a very busy time in libraries. This has been a difficult decision, but it's ultimately for the best. 1/2

I've stopped saying "I'm fine" when people ask "how are ya" due to social convention. Nobody's fine anymore. Instead I say, "oh, about 78.5% today." Or 85.25%. Bonus: it makes me look math-y.

Went well, I think! 3 librarians interviewed me (I knew two of them), 3 pages of questions, about an hour and a half. I had 8-10 questions. I made them laugh a few times. 😉 We will see. This is in addition to, not instead of, the substitute librarian work I'm already doing.
