When he first announced a move Downtown, Sherman said it was important that the new stadium uplift under-represented communities. If he's serious about that, he'd choose the 18th & Vine location (but I'd be good with East Village, too). Bring a complete, fair plan and I'm in.

So, did y’all know there’s a “Little Saigon Plaza” in an old strip shopping center in Gladstone that has SEVEN Vietnamese/Asian restaurants — and the only one we’ve been to so far (Broken Rice) is awesome? (I never knew, and it’s only a few blocks from my childhood home)

Folks, Jackson Co. didn't "drop the ball" on the stadiums. Voters knew a bad deal when they saw it and voted it down. That's why the team owners now appear to be testing how gullible the state of Kansas may be.

An interstate bidding war makes sense for the team owners, as it's their only leverage without threatening to move to Greensboro or San Antonio or wherever. But winning the war would mean Kansas owing hundreds of millions of tax dollars with little gain.

You know who understood this? Ewing Kauffman and Lamar Hunt. They never threatened to leave KC... When the ... stadium tax failed in 2004, Hunt and then-Royals owner David Glass ... worked for another solution in 2006. They got it.

Some guy worried about losing the teams and taking us "back to the 1950s." All these pics were taken in the '50s before the Royals, Chiefs, Kings, Scouts, Sporting + Current ever came to be. Two of them were before the A's arrived (and the other one might be pre-A's).

Billions for the sports-owning billionaires, but neglect for the folks living in historic Downtown neighborhoods and in other neighborhoods red-lined and gutted for decades.

One day after a mass shooting in Kansas City left one woman dead and 22 others injured by gunfire, including nearly a dozen minors under the age of 16, top GOP lawmakers and Gov. Mike Parson shrugged their shoulders at the calamity.

“THERES NO PARKING DOWNTOWN!!” And yet I drove straight to two free spots on a busy Saturday lunchtime/afternoon visit to 21c/Savoy and later, River Market Antiques. Then, walk to River Bluff Brewing and back. Easy-peasey.

The more I think about it, maybe we just invest in a giant New Urbanist ‘hood with affordable + luxury options in the East Village. Retro residential mixed w/ retail, green space, fountains, heavy transit, fewer cars. Ballpark to NKC. (Images: VA, OH, TN, Sweden)

I'm reserving judgment until I see the actual plan (assuming it doesn't change AGAIN three days later), but I'm not expecting to be pleased with the Royals' "vision" for tearing up Downtown later today.

This whole thread about 19th c. StL preservation and new builds brings me joy — and reminds me that the younger commercial buildings at 31st and Main in Kansas City can and should be saved.

Some reno & new build highlights from a long walk today. So much going on in these old neighborhoods. Just a small taste in this 🧵. First up, Benton Park West and reno finishing up on a long vacant home. The city has it listed as an 1858er. 1/

Is it just me, or is the OK Street parking lot a prime candidate to get a lid, too?

Re: A proposed stadium site in the East Crossroads / KC Star printing facility building area. Way too many cool and/or historic buildings — occupied and in use — would be lost. Go East Village or Northtown instead, where demolition is minimal or already done. What a mess.

@madisonflitch @MannyAbarcaIV @Royals @JacksonCountyMO The oldest still standing fire station in the city is across the street from you. Let's not tear that down when we have perfectly good vacant land 6 blocks away.

As Corporate Media gives "both sides" in deference to a lying, bumbling, hate-filled insurrectionist with 91 felony counts against him, @funder Scott Dworkin tells us who cuts through the bullshit and tells it like it is.

Tomorrow’s “March of the Monarchs” to celebrate the ’42 Negro Leagues World Series Champion Kansas City Monarchs made me wonder what a dream parade might have looked like back in 1942…. @NLBMuseumKC @nlbmprez

Never thought I'd want a Downtown football stadium until I saw this beauty (and since the Royals don't seem to have a clue). #DowntownKCFootball
