Ashutosh Mehta of ATK Mohun Bagan, a former India footballer, has been suspended for 2 years for a doping offence by the Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel (ADDP). In an order dated 14 Sept, the panel imposed the suspension on the player for an offence involving morphine (narcotics).

As people compare timings with that of Usain Bolt, a bit of background: Only 6 Asian sprinters of Asian origin have run below 10.0 (Two Asians of Nigerian origin, too). Not till 1998 did an Asian clock 10.00 flat (Koji Ito of Japan). Fifty Asians have so far clocked below 10.20s.

Who is the Indian jr who heads both the junior and Sr sections in Asian and Indian lists for the season? Long jumper Shaili Singh! She is 34th in world rankings for the week. Ahead of her in rankings is Japanese Samire Hata (19th). Both have been entered in the Asians (12 July)

@Nidhi There was a drop of 32,000mw, more than they had anticipated, but the grid held, according to the Power Minister. One anchor tried to mock those who had warned of a possible grid collapse. But the minister's answer doused his enthusiasm! Congrats to our engineers and work force.

A gentle reminder from the Grand Old Man of Indian athletics, J. S. Saini, prompted me to recheck #AsianGames2018 athletics medals. India won 8 gold in athletics in Bangkok, 1978 & a total of 18 medals. The latest one betters the total but not the gold that is 2nd to 1951 tally.

@diveshbhal @afiindia @Adille1 @anjubobbygeorg1 It is often argued federations do not do anything to spot young talent. It is also often insisted the system doesn't do much to encourage talent. These past few weeks have shown NSFs, SAI etc at least do not sit idle. There would still be drawbacks that could be rectified.
