DPD didn’t have an explanation for why people have been charged to get their stolen vehicle back, but those who forked up the cash are eligible for a refund. Here’s the story:
Stepped outside of my Uber in downtown Traverse City and without missing a beat, I was told to take my “f*cking mask” off because “COVID’s over”. Like???? Day 1? Off to a solid start, show me your character Northern Michigan
The interest on foreclosures in the city of Detroit is as inhumane as payday loans. Foreclosing a home because of $154.86 in property taxes is absurd.
It’s mind boggling that a developer is comfortable asking the city of Detroit to forego $800M in property tax revenue. Who wins?
Dr. Abdul El-Sayed told commissioners “In a world where 50% of all medical debt is owned by people who are already insured, it tells you that our insurance system is fundamentally failing.”

Residents in the area of 6 Mile and San Juan in Detroit are seeing brown tap water. Crews told a resident they’re winterizing fire hydrants, but water is still discolored despite running the faucet for almost an hour. Here’s the initial photo
Detroit Board of Police Commissioners are questioning how one reporter can have “more data, more facts, more information” than the Board has. Linda Bernard says “this so embarrassing”
Spent a yr looking at how the Detroit Police Department polices itself. Found an oversight system stacked with officer protections. Cops w/ histories of abuse, lies, bad searches stay on streets, costing taxpayers + jeopardizing trust. Sometimes people die.
24 hours after Sheriff Bouchard posted a video on social media alerting residents about an increase in burglaries in high-end neighborhoods, he held a campaign event at Lelli’s on the Green with high-end homeowners and raised $300K+, which is the most money he’s raised from a
Kinda like the Oakland County Sheriff “sounded the alarm” about an “uptick” in high-end burglaries and then held a press conference just to say the suspects were in police custody in Indiana for crimes they committed over a year before the “uptick.” Smells like a trend to me! 🙃
Livonia City Council member Rob Donovic says he is “vehemently opposed” to DDOT extending a service route to 7 Mile and Middlebelt. The new service route extension was revealed this morning as part of the DDOT Reimagined project.
Mayor Duggan said he’s in “neighborhood meetings all the time” and that residents overwhelmingly support surveillance technology.
The city’s public record tells a much different story.

Would love to see tv news credit the smaller, nonprofit newsrooms in Detroit for their work when it’s used to run a story. I know it’s a lot to ask but dang 😒😮💨
More than two years after Detroit voters approved a $250 million bond plan to tear down and stabilize thousands of blighted homes, an advisory group created to oversee the use of those funds hasn’t held a single public meeting.
Can we talk about the elephant in the room? The city is blatantly saying they’re willing to force people out of their homes for the sake of the CITY lowering it’s utility bills.
Hi! I’m Kayleigh Lickliter and I’m this month’s featured Detroit Documenter!
I’ve watched 500+ public meetings and created a public record for 132 of them. I don’t know what I want to be when I grow up but I know I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.
Fun fact: That’s irrelevant. Your state legislature does not decide how many doctors offices, businesses, etc. are located in a city, or where they locate to. That is an authority granted to municipalities.
Detroit Democrat Karen Whitsett on the possibility of increasing the use of state Medicaid funding under the proposed Reproductive Health Act: “Are we going to have abortion clinics on every corner?”
Detroit has the nation’s first wireless electrified roadway!
Using technology from Electreon, coils installed underneath the pavement will allow electric vehicles with an approved receiver to be charged as it drives on the road (dynamic charging).
Damage at Rotary Park in Livonia. There are reports that Livonia’s emergency manager has confirmed a tornado. The damage is along 6 Mile Rd, mostly at Rotary Park. Theres a tree laying on top of a house across the street on Hubbard Rd.
First of all, the seven Chileans that have been arrested are completely unrelated to the burglaries he’s discussing. And he didn’t “catch” three of them, they were arrested in Indiana OVER A YEAR AGO.
Detroit’s unemployment rate fell to a 20-year low last year. Contrary to claims that this was the result of Detroit residents being hired, an updated economic outlook report says it’s actually the result of a decline in the labor force, not an increase in resident employment.
A study in Lansing concluded that cemeteries might be a potential source of groundwater and surface water contamination. Nonetheless, the excess dirt leftover after interments was used to fill hundreds of basements holes in Detroit - without being tested.

1. It’s DDOT’s money. Not SMART. 2. The will of the voters was that they didn’t want to spend taxpayer money on public transit via SMART. 3. Regardless, they receive $$ from SMART and use it to run a bus service for seniors and the disabled community.
I keep seeing angry social media posts from suburbanites about water and sewer bills and it seems there’s always one guy who so confidently blames the city of Detroit for increasing water rates. Erm, no sir. Your city did that.
Look no further than this gal right here, baby! I have absolutely no shame in saying that I was a Medicaid recipient for two-ish of these years. I am these numbers.

Detroiters aren’t blind to the grace offered to developers with a questionable past when they request $800M in tax incentives vs. when residents ask for relief after the city overtaxed them $600M. The city blamed residents for losing their homes, in case you’re wondering.

She also said she’s pleased with what the administration is doing in response to Putin’s actions at the end. So regardless of who she was talking about in that sentence, she made it clear that she’s supportive of Biden admin’s actions in the same interview
A new Detroiter reached out to me after living without plumbing for the last three weeks.
After a series of delays in the process of obtaining the proper permits and scheduling inspections, the city told her TODAY that her sewer main is actually the county’s responsibility.
Idk who needs to hear this but 85% of the roads in Wayne County are the county and local municipalities’ jurisdiction. You can't argue roads without mentioning whose responsible for maintaining them.
“The leader of Detroit’s public transit system lives in a different time zone, roughly 300 miles away from the city in a Chicago suburb.”

I was told by someone who attended a committee meeting re: Livonia’s transit service that he said everyone in Livonia has cars, it’s the businesses problem if they can’t find staff, people who take the bus are XYZ, etc. The common misconceptions
The company is nearing completion on the Hudson’s Site, which includes 400,000 sq ft of office space, while simultaneously laying people off from…. *checks notes* their office jobs.

I understand that Rocket and UWM are different businesses.
That said, the juxtaposition of the owner of a mortgage business building a 60,000 square foot mansion while mortgage workers lose their jobs makes me uneasy
I’m not the one having a hard time following a pattern, the sheriff is. Show me the booking info for South American gang members who were arrested in relation to any of the high-end burglaries that occurred in Oakland County between August/September 2023 through today.

Shoutout to Courtney at Roots & Grace salon in Woodhaven for workin’ her magic and making me blonder than I’ve been in 7 YEAAARS! 💕
I would ride the bus regularly if we had a regional transit system. I rely on Ann Arbor’s transit system when I attend U of M football games and would do the same for Lions game if the option was available.
Tell me you have no clue how the SMART bus system works without telling me. I'd be happy with just one 24/7 SMART route. He also doesn't realize how his city, a 36 square mile suburb, is effectively blocking service to DTW which would be quite a helpful route.
226 days have passed and still no arrests. Now there’s a town hall to teach residents how to protect themselves from crime.
Here’s questions I think the media should be asking at this point:
It’s been 225 days since Sheriff Bouchard sounded the alarm about Chileans ransacking wealthy homes and so far, no arrests have been made in connection to those burglaries.
Actually… City staff frequently talk about how closely they watch the state legislature. They prepare for upcoming funding opportunities by positioning themselves to be competitive well in advance, especially with grants. They explain this *all of the time* in public meetings.
Wayne County Executive Warren Evans is peeved Detroit is beating the Wayne County suburbs in the fight for Lansing's pork. There’s a little more to the story he’s not talking about.
My column in The

Dear Livonia,
“Don’t be like Detroit” might have built your city but it’s not going to solve your problems. Keep rejecting proposals for multi-family housing, bike paths, and expanding public transit. Investment flows where it’s welcomed.

The City of Detroit has (finally) noticed city council’s special session to approve the FY24 budget…. 3.5 hours in advance and without line items.
The Open Meetings Act requires public bodies to post notices for special meetings 18 hours in advance.

👀🚨 Economic researchers working with the city of Detroit vaguely estimate there are about 10,000 Detroiters employed by Stellantis, substantially more than GM or Ford. In total, they’re estimating a six-week strike could cause a loss of around 30K Detroit jobs.
I’ve attended/watched *EVERY* City Council meeting in 2022 (incl. Committees) and the majority in 2021. I can confidently say that, during these meetings, the public has opposed the city’s surveillance efforts more than they’ve voiced their support. No questions.
I don’t think Julie Schneider, Director of HRD, knows that the need for home repairs in Detroit is so bad that BSEED refers occupied homes for demolition. City Council heard this reality at a recent Dangerous Buildings Hearing.

Visit an auto manufacturing plant in the state of Michigan and tell me electric vehicles are causing a reduction in jobs, and find me one that isn’t scaled up or retooling to support EV production. He couldn’t be more out of touch with reality.
Detroit City Council’s Internal Operations Committee interviewed three mayoral appointments for the Human Rights Commission this week.
All 3 appointees said they weren’t familiar with the Detroiters’ Bill of Rights. Two of them said they knew nothing about it.
Detroit’s land value tax plan moves forward in the legislative process. Next stop: House votes. Meanwhile, the city is gearing up to update it’s master plan for the first time since 2008. How will the projections change when the master plan is updated? What should come first?
