Earlier this month I read "Operation Paperclip" by @AnnieJacobsen and learned that Major-General Dr. Walter Dornberger, former head of Nazi V-1 and V-2 missiles, worked at Bell Aerospace in Niagara Falls after US gov't brought him and other Nazi scientists to America (Quick 🧵)

7 hours before I was to depart JFK for home this evening @Delta cancelled my flight. Within about 5 minutes of that notice, I booked the last open seat on @Amtrak Lake Shore Limited out of the Moynihan Train Hill @ Penn Station. Trusty locomotive got me home just past midnight.

International Holocaust Remembrance Day. My grandfather Frederick Ulrich (pictured in 1942) served with US Army’s 8th Armored Division, 809th Tank Destroyer Battalion in WW2. Pushing through the Harz mountains in southern Germany, they liberated camp Buchenwald in April 1945.
