@cliffreid One of my fave stories is when I (neurosurgeon) was referred a "patient with clipped aneurysm that has bled" from ED. My response upon looking at the scan "I can't see anything apart from the bullet in the brain". GSW lower on a UK ED's differential than rebled clipped aneurysm!

The questions the government are now pondering about coronavirus trends are mirroring my own reflections on life. - Am I past my peak? - Would I know my peak if I was in it? - If my peak has gone, will I get another one? - Should my peak really have been bigger?

In my FRCS(NS) exam I was asked if I knew the name of a rule that was, in essence, common sense. I said "I don't know a formal term, but if someone can slap their name on something and take credit for eternity, they will", thus creating the Whitehouse Law of Eponymous Egoticism.

@RCSnews @RACSurgeons Having the title "Dr" means that everyone assumes you are a male if they do not know you - patients, other doctors and staff alike. I frequently see emails talking about female doctors where male pronouns are used by third parties, assuming it is a man. I find "Miss" empowering.

So, when a post op/trauma patient has anosmia, it can vastly change a life (eg career as a chef, baking hobby) and may lead to social stigma, isolation, hygiene problems, poor dentition, and dangerous situations. Important for consent and understanding problems the elderly face.

My concern about @MattHancock saying that NHS workers waste PPE, even if it were true (it isn't), is that people will now try to conserve PPE by under-using it, thus risking infecting themselves; or not changing it between patients, risking infecting others. #thinkbeforeyouspeak

I'm going to stop using the term "elderly" for my patients. I think I'll use "life-experienced" instead.

@drtintin99 @DoctorMayJay Many of mine are because the letter went to the wrong address or was late, transport issues, traffic, or patient is admitted to hospital for a completely different reason. Chasing up fines, checking which are "genuine" or not, and secretarial abuse will cost far more than £10.
