5 years ago, I was hopeless and lost and having this setup wasn't even on my radar. Today I have a family and goals. Never be ashamed to reach out for help if you are struggling with addiction anything is possible if you put your mind to it.
Today I turned 45 years old and I can say that I am very blessed. I could never imagined to be where I am right now and learning to code. Things I thought were super complicated a year ago are starting to make sense, I have a supportive family 😎

You are correct Tech is Fun! I always say Live, Learn, & Code!!! Great to see young, sharp minds at work, the sky is the limit for you guys.
@traversymedia
I went to prison for 10 years when I got out and decided to get sober and change my life, so I went back to school and started to learn to code at age 44. I found
@UnderdogDevs
and got a mentor and it changed my life completely.😎
This year my goals are to graduate in May and get a Job as a Software Developer if I have to take a Job in Tech that's not Software Development just to be working until I land that Job that's what I'll do but I will get that Job
😎💪
Been a long road to get here with 2 toddlers and a teenager and graduating at 45. I've been homeless, in jail, addicted to drugs but my kids changed my life, I just hope I continue to make them proud.
@unusual_whales
I'm not saying it is untrue but Bill Gates said in an interview one of the best books he ever read was "How to lie with statistics", so I don't believe anything anyone says in the News or Government 🤣
Dude I just looked at my follower count and had no idea I had 900 followers 🤯I don't normally look or care about follower count because I'm trying to get genuine connections with people. So thank you all 908 of you beautiful people 😎💪
@EddyVinckk
Right, I have a couple projects hosted on there right now while I am still in school I planned on using them for my portfolio examples. Probably going to try they have a Heroku migration tool or something I read about.
@tiny_kiri

@LinuxHandbook
3 years ago when I was 41 yrs old I decided to start my software development journey and go back to school is when I realized developing in a linux environment is the way to go and never looked backed.
This is determination, if you want something bad enough NEVER GIVE UP! That's been my motto for a long time, even when I was at my lowest I still got back up and kept going. I'll probably be haunting people when I die because I am stubborn AF 🤣😎
My journey to landing my first job in tech. Literally everything that I did!
- Started with HTML, CSS and Javascript.
- I started going to meetups ALL THE TIME. Whenever I saw a meetup happening, I was there.- Learned Python.
Found zero python jobs in my area.

Hello!
My name is Kenneth I am 45 years old and decided to take control of my life when I was 42 because some bad choices in my past I had a hard time finding jobs and caring for my family so I went back to school (Software development) Graduate in May 😎🤓
I'm so upset right now 😭A childhood friend of mine passed away last night. He was having mental issues and wouldn't stay away from street drugs. I have lost so many people over the last 10 years 😭😭
I helped a kid from my school deploy one of his projects to Heroku. I forgot how far I have come in my journey. He didn't know a lot and it took him 3 days but it finally got it. I remember being right there not too long ago. Grateful of my journey 😎
Seeing this Monday morning should get everyone fired up and ready to learn the things we need to get where we want to be in life 😎Thank you
@DThompsonDev
Anybody getting discouraged in their journey learning to code, don't stop because you are having a day that you feel too stupid to learn how to code, these days come and go. I have taken college classes, studied for hours, watched every YouTube video I could think off and wanted
@Cthulhu_Answers
I don't know how he had 24k followers, if anyone I follow acts like he did, I am unfollowing real fast because I don't want to be associated with people like him at all. He has to be on drugs nobody sober acts like that or if they do they need professional help
Can't believe I am actually graduating next week, I went from being a homeless addict to graduating college. If you told me this is where I would be 4 years ago, I would have thought you was crazy.
I have been with this Wonderful woman 6 years today and if it wasn't for her and my kids I wouldn't be on this journey of becoming a software developer I owe everything to them 😎
@TheJackForge
My wife is like you gotta be talking to someone on the computer you are constantly on the damn thing. I am like, yeah I am talking to Javascript, Python and C#'s sexy asses. I sleep on the couch after that 🤣😜
This semester has been rough. I am done with my final project for C#, almost done with my final essay in writing 101, have one exam left in JavaScript, and a Final left in my Security class 🤯I am ready for a break feeling burned out

My girls are so sweet they always want me to fix their hair in the mornings which is not my strong spot. No matter how it looks they always tell me good job daddy it's pretty 🥰I just agree and have my wife fix it when she gets up 🤣

Remember all my fellow newbies devs, the only time we fail is when we completely give up. As long as we are still putting in the effort, we are still in the game.
If you are a person that left rude comments on her TL just because she asked a question let me know so I can block you. There are no stupid questions. This community is about helping people not discouraging them so they won't even ask next time because they will be afraid people
Not sure why so many people think it's OK to make snarky comments to someone who literally asked a question so she could UNDERSTAND concepts better.
I think it's so awesome that Bek asks so many questions here, and her knowledge has grown so much since when she first started
I used to jump right into coding until I understood this.
Program Development Cycle

WHY ARE PEOPLE SOOO INCLINED TO MAKE SOMEONE LOOK BAD WHEN THEY SEE A BAD TAKE! IF YOU THINK THEY'RE WRONG TRY TO HAVE A COMPASSIONATE CONVO AND EXPLAIN WHY YOU THINK A CERTAIN WAY!!
@thedevbek
The best way for me to remember what it is is think about your car You don't need to know how the engine works or the brakes work or any of the steering works You just know they work so it's abstracted away and you can just drive the car You don't need to know how all the complex
"I want to update my LinkedIn but what if my current boss/coworkers sees me update it with tech stuff when I don't work in tech yet?"
Here's what you do:
@TreciaKS
I love chrome if you if have unlimited amount of RAM. Maybe it is just my machine but if you open chrome and firefox developer edition open side by side and open task manager chrome is eating RAM like pac-man 🤣😜
@htmx_org
I don't understand people that go hard against any one technology. I love them all, some are better than others but the all have their use cases. I think htmx is pretty awesome, I haven't done too much with it yet because I am lost in React/React-Native land 🤣But I will
@trunarla
That's beyond sad 😢I have 3 daughters 18, 4, 2 years old, and hate the world is like this. I feel I am always in fight mode to protect them from the people who feel it is O.K to behave this way towards a woman.
Some of the "killers" I have seen during my time on Twitter.
- Deno.js, The Node.js Killer
- Polywork, The LinkedIn killer
- Copilot would replace all developers
- Web3 will completely replace Web2 so everyone should make smart contracts
So let's talk about it.
