Why I changed my mind about some aspects of CMNs in forests. Our review challenged some of my previous ideas. Scientists are trained to update their interpretations and ideas when challenged by evidence. If we did not do this, we would be ideologues, not scientists.

I've just been asked to do an interview to corroborate that mycorrhizal fungi help plants hear, smell, and sense gravity. The answer was 'no'. If it were live, I would have considered so I could call out the misinformation but it's recorded and I don't trust the editing process.

I’ve had an interesting day. Bob Geldof challenged my assertion that there is no evidence that trees in forests send warning signals to each other through fungal connections. His counter: @TWCrowther mapped the ‘wood-wide web' using a db of > 28,000 tree spp. Some takeaways...

Thanks @NYT for this Q&A. But I don't think saviour narratives are appropriate ways to frame a kingdom of life. Intro also misrepresents a recent paper I was part of by overstating the role of fungi in C cycling. Fungi are important & neglected organisms. But let's avoid hype.
