3️⃣ people speak up most often when they are upset. It’s not a reflection of you doing a “bad job.” your sample size will always be skewed by negative feedback. no feedback usually means things are going at least somewhat well.

2️⃣ speaking of the above— in medicine, we are bred in an atmosphere where the hard work input yields a proportional result (study hard, receive A+ for example). this is rarely true during chief year. you will be humbled by how much you do and how little is recognized.

6️⃣ speaking of emotions: emotions trickle & people feed off of your energy. I learned this as an intern. having an in-control and positive senior led to a different team tempo than a negative and chaotic senior. if you’re mad, everyone else will be mad.

5️⃣ speaking of which, do not respond to anger with anger. leave emotionally triggering emails until later to respond to. do not respond when you are upset. it helps no one, and fight or flight state always clouds your decision making, so solutions are less likely to be found.

@irtzabadar IM PGY-2 here who’s worked out 4-5 times a week for the last 2 years — it’s all about prioritization. you’ll never have the time unless you make it a priority! even if it’s 15 min workout per day some rotations, it’s important to fit it in to keep it a habit.

transitioned my patient who, 2 and change years ago did not pick up insulin or any other medication from the pharmacy let alone take them and had out of control glucoses, off of insulin today. feeling fulfilled, proud of my patient, and… grateful for GLP-1s.😌

today, I became the attending who quizzes their team on the types of renal tubular acidosis & I spent every minute since rounds this morning reflecting on who or what hurt me. & also reflecting on what method I used to actually get these to finally stay in my brain?

how I’m surviving my week on nephrology service: my attending uses cardiology analogies to teach me renal concepts. it’s genius, and it’s also working. I understand the kidneys better than I ever have. We’re peaking.

Our awards ceremony tonight made me reflect on exactly why I chose @TempleIM - I am so grateful to be surrounded by such intelligent, compassionate & hardworking individuals who put in so much work to patient care outside of the 80 hours a week that are required.

How did I make it through medical school which required sitting in a cubicle for 12 hours a day when now I can’t even create 1 slide of my 15 minute presentation before becoming more interested in watching the barista make the cappuccinos which, by the way, I don’t even drink.
