🚨 SOME PERSONAL NEWS 🚨
My book has a cover! & a release date—August 6th!
& preorders are open!
Thanks so much to
@BellePointPress
for putting this out into the world.
Fun fact I came across while researching for an article:
Four WNBA players are shooting 70% or better in the restricted area on four or more attempts per game.
Nneka Ogwumike, Jonquel Jones, Brittney Griner...
& Chennedy Carter.
If the WNBA season ends tomorrow, here are two things you should do:
1) search out ways to watch your favorite players during their overseas season
2) make sure you watch women's college basketball when it starts up
it's a shame professional basketball in the United States is now on break following the last game of the NBA Finals & won't be back until Mystics/Fever & Dream/Liberty at 7 p.m. ET tonight
Hey, who thinks there should be more WNBA fantasy options? If so, like this tweet. Trying to gather some data before I potentially reach out to a couple fantasy providers.
Statement from the WNBAPA re: the Aces.
“NEW YORK, NY, Jan. 21, 2023 -- A member of our Union has raised serious concerns regarding the conduct of members of Las Vegas Aces’ management. We will review this matter and we will seek a comprehensive investigation…
Sheryl Swoopes got some facts wrong, something that every person in the world does every day. You really, really don't need to go on some crusade against her for it.
My only comment on the Kim Mulkey piece is that Baylor was described as "no longer among the sport’s upper tier, another structure abandoned and left to wither."
Baylor faces USC today in the Sweet 16.
Everyone's doing WNBA mock drafts, but none of these mock drafts take into account one important thing: every year, at least one WNBA team makes a baffling pick in the first round that makes everyone tweet "WHAT" in all-caps.
What will that pick be in 2023?
Ice Cube doesn’t even know when the WNBA season is so I have a feeling this is not actually about giving WNBA players opportunities & is instead about Ice Cube trying to use Caitlin Clark as a marketing tool.
Is there a secret group somewhere where men get an alert that someone posted a positive thing about the WNBA, or do they just sit on Twitter all day waiting to make bad jokes & sexist comments?
If you had WNBA League Pass last year, your account is still active & you can still watch last year's games, so I think we should organize some 2019 WNBA watch parties over the next month or two.
🚨 I have some personal news! 🚨
I've accepted a full-time position as a writer/editor with
@fuboTV
, where I'll be writing about basically all of the sports that exist.
Ignoring a history of sexual & domestic violence to stan for a player is dangerous & harmful & enables a culture where men get away with doing terrible things.
Hammon on the decision to join the Aces and leave the NBA (Q from
@howardmegdal
): "I sat in head coaching interviews [in the NBA] and people said two things: 'you've only been in San Antonio and you've never been a head coach.' ... [In LV], they saw me as a head coach right now."
Most points scored in "clutch" scenarios this season in the WNBA:
1) Courtney Williams - 27
2) Dana Evans - 20
3) Aliyah Boston/Arike Ogunbowale - 17
5) Alyssa Thomas/Brittney Griner/Elena Delle Donne - 16
Nicki Collen took Baylor over in May. She didn't have a recruiting class. She lost some good players to the portal. She implemented a whole new offense. This was a bad game for the Bears, but I still think Collen's first year was promising.
I've seen far too many people tweet things about how surprised they are that James Harden, who is on his way to his fourth top-two MVP finish in five years, is playing well.
People who don't actively follow the WNBA are saying Taurasi/Griner/Diggins-Smith is the best trio in the league because people who don't follow the league only know a limited number of WNBA players. In this essay, I will..
Introducing the
#WNBARewatch
Online Party:
This Thursday at 8:00 ET, everyone who had League Pass last year is encouraged to fire it up & watch the Sky/Aces playoff game from September 15th along with me. Use the hashtag

!
to ensure that her rights under the collectively bargained provisions of the 2020 CBA, as well as her rights and protections under state and federal law, have not been violated.”
The No. 11 pick in the WNBA Draft should theoretically be on a roster her rookie season, but her being cut almost feels less about the need for expansion & more about the downside of making 11 first-round picks over the course of four drafts.
Making homophobic & transphobic jokes about the Dwight Howard situation is not the correct way to address the situation. Homophobia and transphobia are never funny.
If I were the Baylor AD, I would do one of two things, depending on if you want to hire internal or not:
1) call Adia Barnes & offer to triple her current salary
2) hire Sytia Messer
Incarnate Word is about to have its third head coach in three years because everyone they hire keeps getting FBS jobs.
One of their recent QBs is going to end up in the NFL.
They just got an SEC quarterback to transfer there.
This program is fascinating.
Source: Former Texas A&M and Auburn quarterback Zach Calzada plans to transfer to Incarnate Word. Calzada threw for 2,185 yards and 17 touchdowns at Texas A&M in 10 starts in 2021. He redshirted in 2019 and has has two years of eligibility.
DiDi Richards on WNBA's new bench celebration policy: "I'm gonna affect the game regardless. Whether or not I can stand, Imma yell. I'm the loudest girl in the game, so I'm gonna be loud... They can't take what I do just by making me sit down, that's all I have to say.”
@Winsidr
I don't mean this as disrespect to Caitlin Clark at all. She's great.
But Breanna Stewart won four titles. Won four NCAA Tournament MOPs. Was the NPOY three times.
Caitlin's great, but Stewie's college career is unmatched.
My biggest wish for the
@WNBA
this year? To get play-by-play video on the WNBA website like the NBA has on its website, which would really help writers break down the game.
WHY I'M JOINING WNBAinsidr
Really excited to announce that I've joined the
@WNBAinsidr
family. Happy & grateful for the chance to write for a site that values women's basketball so deeply & to do my part in expanding WNBA coverage.
A play like this really shows how dangerous the Liberty are. You get Sabrina & Jonquel moving toward the basket on the pick-and-roll, but then it's like "HAHA JK" & Sabrina kicks it out for the Stewie three.
I make a lot of jokes on Twitter, but Harrison Barnes' face here as he sits on the bench during an NBA game after being traded is a good reminder of the human element of all of this. You can tell the news is affecting him, but he still sat there & supported his teammates.
Shyla Heal is a really good basketball player, but she's also 19 years old in a league where almost every player comes in at 22 or older. It takes a special player to be league-ready at 19.
