Isn’t it funny, the twists and turns life brings? After 33 years living with diabetes, I have been told that I have MODY caused by the HNF1A gene. I may not need insulin anymore. I can’t quite believe it. Imagine, no more carb counting. I’d be able to eat pizza & bread! #GBDoc

Today, my baby girl, Miss P fell asleep in my arms. It was too soon but the cancer was spreading along her jaw and she couldn’t close her mouth properly. She had such a varied life and I was glad I could make the last couple of years comfortable for my Diva Cat. 🌈💔

Gutted for my lad. He has his driving test booked for Friday but his driving instructor has taken his money and done a bunk. So he has no car to take his test in. Due to Covid delays, missing his test will also mean he has to do his theory again. I just want to help but can’t 😞

Very interesting appointment with my new diabetes consultant. We’re going back to basics in more ways than one. Not only do I have to do basal testing, but I have, after 32 years of diabetes, had a blood test to see if I’m a true T1 or MODY 🤷🏼‍♀️ #GBDoc

38 years ago, I asked if I could play football at school. I was told only boys could play. I went on to play, to qualify as a coach and then be club secretary of a men’s football team. FINALLY, I’m watching women being accepted in football. Awesome! #Lionesses #UEFAWomensEuro

Sad news at HRH house this evening. My beautiful, demanding, funny housemate, the infamous Miss P, has a fast growing cancer on her jaw and neck. That means it’s inoperable so she’s on palliative care. On the plus side, she appears to have the munchies after having painkillers!

Today I met an incredible young man. He delivered my Tesco order and we talked about disability. He admitted that most of his body was scarred after he got electrocuted. He now works with Network Rail to help raise awareness of the dangers. He’s so positive. An inspiration.

I could sit here and cry with happiness! Dom and Ellie have worked for 4 hours getting me up straight again. The bedding has been washed and changed, the wardrobe has been rebuilt, rubbish out and Christmas decorations up. My mental health is in a much better place!

Ultrasound of my tummy today. Explained I had a cannula in the right hand side, lay down, lifted my shirt, then had to explain that I also had one in the left side that I’d forgotten to remove after a set change. Sonographer said “Good job I just need the middle bit really”

Happy to report that I have been out today for a walk and a catch up with my friend. Slightly achy but much better than yesterday so the side effects of the 2nd jab really only lasted just over 24 hours #COVIDvaccine

I’ve had to go to Boots to pick up my prescription meds and some more paracetamol. As my shielding has finally finished, I thought I’d see if I have remembered how to buy a sugar free caramel latte. Turns out I have! Back to my duvet #COVIDvaccine

Nearly 30 years ago I skipped insulin to lose weight. It didn’t have a name back then. 30 years on and the pressures are different but still create a dilemma. My new consultant wants 80% TIR from me. I’ve had 2 lots of high dose steroids in the last 3 weeks #GBDoc 1/3

Today my boy turns 23. He’s had a tough time lately but I want him to know that he makes me very proud, every day. He’s grown into a fun, caring, compassionate, intelligent, gorgeous man and is my proudest life achievement! Happy Birthday Dom, love you lots xxxx

I think that one of the worst things about being Mum to a grown up is that you can’t make everything right for them any more. Makes my heart break when I can’t scoop him up in my arms and cuddle him and make him feel better 💔

First vaccination done. Waiting 15 mins before I can go. Sitting here and thinking about all the people who are currently fighting Covid and all those people for who this vaccine has come too late. Particularly thinking of @KateMcMahon__ and her family. I’m so sorry my lovely 💜

Since having to give up work for health reasons, I feel I have done a lot for charities & #GBDoc . But I feel good about doing those things. Helping people makes me happy. I feel no need to list what I do. By engaging with the community I feel I get massive #PeerSupport in return.

Today is a new day, one which no longer involves working for the #GBDoc I feel like there’s a huge void in my life and my heart. Sounds dramatic but it’s how it is. I’m grieving. Please be kind to volunteers and their projects. We’re all people. Words hurt.

My anxiety is made much worse by Boots, who I usually pick up my prescription meds from. Instead, I have changed to a pharmacy 6 miles away. I have rung and my call was answered, unlike Boots, and all 14 items have been dispensed and are available for collection. Boom!!

New pump has been ordered. I was 95% sure I was going to go for @MedtronicUK but their sensors are just too difficult to apply with dexterity issues. So I’ve gone for the @TandemDiabetes T:Slim. Dexterity issues filling it but it’s possible with a holder c/o @Type1Tony #GBDoc

Having a tearful day today. Only 10 days into antidepressants so am not surprised. I feel wobbly then when little things go wrong my brain just over exaggerates them and I get upset. Part of my brain is logical about it but the emotional part takes over! #MentalHealthAwareness
