The reason student journalism at Columbia surpassed in quality other mainstream outlets is because the reporters are committed to accurately reporting their own community. We know the students and we listen when they speak, we report to learn not to fit a narrative.
Absolutely bewildered that these two are “breaking news” when one is a group of students, majority safe, who will not get to congregate and celebrate graduation. Meanwhile, the other is nearly a million people at risk of being further displaced, killed, and starved after half a

@Dena
is a lively memoir that crosses over the reality of Israeli-military occupation & Ahed & her community in Nabi Saleh's unwavering hope.
Read my review and interview with Dena about the memoir below:
Columbia University launches encampment for third time with banners “Revolt for Rafah” and “We’re back bitches” hanging on the tent set up for Alumni weekend.
Some students read the notice, while others threw them in the trash. No official statement has beeb said by CUAD (Columbia University Apartheid Divest).
Near Columbia, I had to ask to be let onto the street I live on because NYPD had it barricaded. Same NYPD that “accidentally fired a gun” inside Hamilton Hall.
Hi Minouche, I live just down the street from you. The cops you called have sealed off our street and are asking residents for photo ID to access it. Please can you “respect someone else’s point of view” (mine) and ask them to leave? Thanks
I don’t understand the dissonance. Met Gala push notifications, Pulitzer prize push notifications but all I am seeing is shredded bodies in Gaza. How are people not enraged.
From what I have seen, the encampments are filled with beautiful tributes, small and large, of Gaza and Palestine. People killed by Israel are not forgotten. Students remember and hold them dear and lean on their memory for strength.
Do people not visiting the encampments know how much kindness there is in them? Like the Dr. Hammam Alloh medic tent, named for the 36-yr-old nephrologist killed in Al Shifa when he refused to abandon his patients
Cannot forget how one journalist coming to cover the “Gaza Solidarity Encampment” and Hamilton Hall occupation didn’t know who Hind Rajab was. Even if the focus was just on Columbia — which it shouldn’t be — after 2 weeks, it was a shock to learn they didn’t know.
Updates from Columbia University "Gaza Solidarity Encampment":
Student protestors voted in the encampment to stay and protect the encampment, with one negotiator saying "They are literally using the Israeli occupation tactics by distributing leaflets and notices for people to
There is no celebration of press freedom when our industry has allowed for the slaughter of our colleagues in Gaza with no consequence or regard. We are indebted to their fearless and tireless coverage exposing the suffocating reality of Israel’s genocidal campaign in Gaza.
Thank you

! So many phenomenal journalists at Columbia J-School have been on this beat, putting in incredible work and time. We are happy to report and are on campus!

Campus Public Safety at Columbia University stormed the lawn and started pulling tents and pushing students without warning — student repeatedly yelled “stop you are hurting me” before they left.
They are saying no tents are allowed on the lawn and an organizer pointed out

Noting that Shireen Abu Akleh's murder is not 'out of character' but in character with historical precedent.
A decade on, Syrian adults at Zaatari refugee camp cling lost hopes of safe returns and stable lives to younger generations — many of whom have known nothing other than the cyclical life at the camp.

Media outlets cannot even do the bare minimum of quoting what Aaron Bushnell stated as his last words before his self-immolation, and that should be considered media malpractice and fraudulent reporting. He set himself on fire in protest of the genocide in Gaza. Quote him.
