Horrific threats are being made to elections staff all over the country including WA. Including pictures, scope crosshairs, and home addresses. We have to stop this. I support the work of Kim Wyman and her staff and believe in the results of the election in our state.
Rep. Matt Shea has been suspended from any role in the House Republican Caucus. He should resign. He cannot use House Republican staff, he cannot meet with the caucus, his office will be moved.
Last night 2 individuals broke a window and threw a lit flare into the office of my seatmate, Rep. Andrew Barkis. We have no information about perps or motivation, but I'm very concerned. Thank goodness the flare landed on a masonry floor.
The Legislature should be investigating the vast increase in the cost of fuel for commuters and it should start with all the false statements made in order to pass the carbon tax.
The Gov must announce relief efforts for restaurants & small retailers to survive his order. He must announce this at the same time he announces restrictions & they cannot wait for the session House Republicans are ready for special session to pass good policy at 24 hours notice
The press in Seattle and WA must begin asking state D leaders to account for Jayapal and D leaders must make it clear that they disagree with her egregious statements. The statements are a terrible reflection on all of us in WA.
When asked about why there hasn’t been more outrage about Hamas’s rape of Israeli women Rep Jayapal says sexual violence should be condemned but “we have to be balanced” in our condemnation.
Early this morning a window was smashed and a lit flare was tossed into the office of my seatmate, Andrew Barkis. The building also houses the office of the House Republican election campaign. Fortunately the flare landed on a masonry floor and the building survived.
Thousands of veterans in WA have poured their hearts and sometimes blood into helping the people of Afghanistan. I just asked our House Republican staff to draft ideas and an offer to cooperate with State, Feds and veterans groups to quickly find homes here for Afghan refugees.
There's lots of suspicions voiced about slow counts. It's because more than a million voters vote on the last day. Taking those ballots out of envelopes is slow. Most votes will get counted by Friday. If you told people to vote late, don't complain about waiting for counts.
I've never thought that
@BrandiKruse
or
@jasonrantz
were on our side, they are independent journalists who are friends and closely aligned but not on a side. For them to be subjected to threats is appalling and wrong. You don't have to abandon your candidate to denounce threats
Inslee is among the least popular Governor's in America. He thinks it's great that you can't afford gas to commute. This is not a good thing for his chosen successor.
Gov. Jay Inslee on Saturday endorsed Attorney General Bob Ferguson in next year’s race for governor, handpicking him early — from a competitive Democratic field — as his chosen successor.
From the Stanger: "The Dems promised it would not be that expensive; but, see, they plain lied to us. Gas in Washington is now $2 higher than the national average, higher than even the gas in communist California"
I have been steadfast in support of our Washington State free press and journalists, but also more discouraged this year than ever before by the near-total lack of accountability for incumbents enabled by editorial boards. Tiffany did the bold thing here and she's right.
The

Like she always does, my opponent refused. Sadly but predictably, the Herald caved to Murray's demands for separate Zoom interviews.
Watch what happened next:
I never expected to attend so many Law Enforcement funerals when I started this work. Every one is painful and you find that so many deceased officers are among the best young people our communities produce. Please read the description of Deputy Calata's years.
I'm thinking the press may want to start asking the Governor how long he intends to maintain the State of Emergency and what metrics he will use to make that decision. We all deserve to know when we will live in a non-state-of-emergency.
One more time,
@BrandiKruse
is the one who speaks plainly about failure. The 2nd time I met her was a press conference where she called me out. She is fair and fearless. I hope everyone looks out for her. I'm worried about her safety.
THREAD: This is going to be a long one. But I want to take a few minutes to point out some of the obvious moral and logical shortcomings at Seattle City Hall. If the press doesn't do it, then who will?

Around midnight House D's passed the most poorly thought-out major bill I've ever seen. After June 30 no new gas hookups for PSE customers. Will cause redesign, delay, extra costs. Imagine someone with a home loan and their budget destroyed. Imagine ordering a furnace
There is no question at all that
@SmileyForWA
is lifting all Republican candidates in WA. Her selfless and high energy campaign is making an immense difference.
ICYMI: I recently joined
@JonScottFNC
for an interview after a stop on my bus tour to explain why we will win this race tomorrow & turn the tide here in Washington state.
I have taken on the federal government — and won — and that’s exactly what I will do in the Senate!
Looks like 5919, the vehicular pursuit fix bill may not pass Senate concurence. It's critical to fix the disastrous police reform mistakes from last year. Unbelievable.
You might be OK with this, but a Governor who will dictate endless boosters for employees will feel little hesitation for future incursions into your affairs.
NEW TODAY:
@GovInslee
issues directive making COVID vaccines a *permanent* condition of employment for state workers in executive and small cabinet agencies. That includes boosters.
I watched our current Governor turn a non-partisan event into a partisan rant Tuesday night and today I watch a genuine and honest man talk with generosity, humility and concern about all the people of Washington. A full house of over 300 in Oly for Dave Reichert.
for every one of the last three decades, Texas's population has grown at a faster rate than Washington's. Still, the median house price in Washington is about twice that of Texas. In 2021, Texas had nearly 2x as much vacant rental housing as Washington did

Reuven and I agree. Farmworkers, grocery workers, delivery drivers, nurses have all worked every day to help us. We've had nearly 2 years to prepare the Chambers. We should be doing our jobs in person like they are.
I believe the Legislature can responsibly & carefully follow strict public health guidelines of vaccines, N95 masks, testing, distancing while meeting in-person to conduct the people's business. If we can send our kids to school, we can send legislators to Olympia.

Motion to move police pursuit bill to the floor calendar was defeated on party line vote. Reason given by Ds was this was outside normal process. As I tweeted yesterday, I twice requested the bill through our normal process and was denied.
Kathy and I and all the House Republicans extend our heartfelt sympathy and love to Rep. Jim Walsh and his family for the loss of wife and mom, Jamie Walsh. There could be no better partner in Jim's work and as a parent than Jamie. Her outstanding children are her monument.
Rep. Jacqueline Maycumber sums up House Democrat Bill: "Your child has gone missing and the State of Washington has them." And the bill says the State won't tell you. How is this possible?
When an elected Republican from WA says something outrageous and wrong I was always asked to comment. My D friends should reject this outrageous statement. I know they are better than Jayapal.
When asked about why there hasn’t been more outrage about Hamas’s rape of Israeli women Rep Jayapal says sexual violence should be condemned but “we have to be balanced” in our condemnation.
In a news alert, UW Medicine said that out of 3,000 tests conducted on people who had attended recent protests, fewer than 1% were positive.
See more updates here:
The Governor replaced Chris Gregoire, who was fanatical about competent government function. The level of incompetence in executive agencies now would have been unthinkable 12 years ago.
Victor Hogan running to be a WA House Republican in LD 28. Retired Army Officer, wounded in action, School Director, gracious and eloquent. He will change our state.
The worst part of my mild case of covid? Worrying about having exposed my friends. There were only 3 that I could have exposed but it was a big worry for me. So far, no ill effects.
I endorsed Dave Reichert. He's a Republican who has broad appeal across the state and can win. Although the nominating convention chose otherwise, that has no impact at all on the primary where the voters of WA will determine the top 2 candidates who go to the general election.
I am so very sorry to see this news. I talked with Matt often. We texted privately sometimes. He was honest and respected honest people who disagreed with him. What a loss for Tacoma and journalism and most of all, for his family.
The Governor and others are desperately spinning the facts about their signature program because the contradictions inherent in their carbon priorities and the deeply regressive price impacts are obvious to all. They were warned repeatedly.
We are short 250k homes in WA. Building code bill HB1770 was passed with all D votes and due to significant increased costs a material number of families will not have homes due to this vote.
Washington Democrats just passed the most extremist bill in the country. If a minor runs away from home, they can receive "gender affirming care" (including surgeries) without parental consent and without the state being compelled to tell the parents where their child is. 🧵
Hundreds of semi trucks are stranded in Eastern WA carrying food and other products to Puget Sound. Lots are stranded in W WA for EWA. Be kind to the drivers. Few care about the supply chain until it's broken. These drivers are under tremendous stress.
Brandi goes after everybody, including maybe me. She's right, Eyeman's analogies are silly and wrong. I don't like what is happening to the economy but comparing it to slowly suffocating an individual human being, Mr Floyd, is wrong and diminishes us all.

Jayapal is possibly the most prominent Washington voice in DC. All of us need to make it plain she doesn't speak for us in her refusal to clearly condemn without deflection. The whole world is watching this. Where is the WA press in demanding that we take a stand?
.
@RepJayapal
, most wars don’t feature premeditated rape as part of the war plan.
Individual acts of rape from lack of discipline, which tragically does occur in war, is different than “preconceived and premeditated” rapes, which as one leading expert told me was Hamas’ plan.
Sen Doug Ericksen never gave up. He served for many years and was known for his adept understanding of politics. Kathy & I are very sad for his family and want them to know that we are thinking of them during this very painful time. I know all House Republicans feel the same.
I've sat in 10 "State of the State" speeches delivered by Governors of the opposite party, 8 of them as Floor Leader or Minority Leader. If the Governor say something that is good for our state, I always clap. The good of our state shouldn't be a partisan thing.
I appreciate the kind words of Gov. Inslee re my Dad. I especially like the story about him and his friend Billy Frank. Men who recognized history when the time came to make it. I try to keep political opposition from creating private division. That's what the Governor did here.
@Jim_Brunner
@GovInslee
The Governor talked to no Republicans and we indicated many times there was a compromise available that would get many Republican votes. I emailed the Speaker about that yesterday.
Many endlessly touted their vote for this bill yet repeatedly deny the impacts, which were clearly explained at the time. They should be apologizing for the false accusations they made.
One reason I'm done with politics is the way so many willingly accept clear lies if they come from the right team. I said this in interviews when I announced stepping down from Leadership. Westneat calls this late but correctly.
Kathy and I had the R's and D's of the House Finance committee out to our farmhouse for dinner last night. Nobody wins when Legislators get locked into endless conflict and the hours spent afterwards visiting in my home office were some of the best of my 14 years in the House.
Political violence must end or our great country will end. We treasure freedom of speech and the best service we can render our country now is to be an example of effective discourse that rejects violence. We can't let toleration of violence be part of our politics. Cast it out.
I hope skeptics will watch this. 11 years ago, Gov Inslee replaced a Governor who cared deeply about competent Government. My observation is that Inslee cares about climate and almost nothing else. It's a tragedy that the Leg. has abandoned oversight.
WA Governor told me police should have gone "higher up the food chain" before raiding a state-run facility. This
@K5Investigators
report reveals they did just that. Cops sent letter to Gov. Inslee himself two months before they got a search warrant:
My request to pull the police pursuit from rules to the floor was turned down. We will move for immediate consideration of the bill before the Wednesday cutoff so that all members will vote on the record at least on consideration of the bill.

My friends know that I'm James T. Wilcox III. Our son is IV. I was just accused on FB of engaging in a plot using my Dad (Jr.) and my son to avoid accountability. I want to thank my Great Grandfather for launching this diabolically clever scheme with the birth of Sr. in 1913.
The Gov says he is suspending collections on the Long Term Health Care Tax and D leaders announce they will pass legislation delaying it until...after the '22 election. It's still a mess. The Legislature should repeal. Here's what we said a week ago:
I am very happy to see that today Dr. Raul Garcia and Dave Reichert announced that they would endorse each other as Republican candidates for the US Senate and WA State Governor.
I enthusiastically endorse both of them.
Gov. Jay Inslee on Saturday endorsed Attorney General Bob Ferguson in next year’s race for governor, handpicking him early — from a competitive Democratic field — as his chosen successor.
🚨The extreme Washington GOP is teaming up with the mega-rich to pass a set of ballot initiatives that would hurt working Washingtonians. Three ways you can help:

I've seen Democratic proposals for special session. Good. Republicans have proposals to roll back gas tax, backfill road funds w general fund, fix the Democratic public safety catastrophe & reform emergency powers & every member will have to vote on bringing them to the floor.
Dori Monson showed us all how you can be forthright about your opinions and still highlight your common humanity. Sharing his feelings about his family and coaching was terrific for all of us. He showed how to be a personality and a human. Not a common skill.
In the last week 2 of the most senior and 2 of the most junior House Dem members appear to be leaving the House. Not sure I can recall 1st termers leaving like this before.
With 28 hours to go before the critical deadline, the bill needed to allow police to pursue vehicles fleeing the scene of a crime hasn't even shown up on a briefing list. D's promised to address this problem.
Pierce, Cowlitz and Whitman County Representatives, Republicans and Democrats, should have a voice in the fate of their County. A year of emergency orders is enough. The Legislature is in session. They will have an opportunity to be counted.
7 major Democratic policies have now gathered enough signatures to qualify reversal initiatives. 3 of them ended up being reversed by near unanimous votes led by panicked D legislative leaders. Everyone said this last reversal initiative couldn't be done. Now it has.

I spent some time in the Columbia Basin last week. Heard of some employers and small towns who took health very seriously, rescheduled events, put up shields and masked. Stopped the spread of Covid in its tracks. They did this on their own. No orders, no shaming. Good judgement

During the darkest date of the summer and fall of 1940 the Brits expected invasion any moment, they still planned for counter-attacks later. While we fight Covid19 now it's critical that we plan for our economic recovery. It is time to plan for a safe return to construction now
WA House Democrats were infinitely warned by House Republicans like Rep Jenny Graham and Rep. Gina Mosbrucker that innocent people would be the victims of their misguided legislation. In tragic disregard of consequences, they passed them anyway.
Inspired by some friends, I'm going to launch my 1st ever HOT TAKE: Possibly we might get some snow in W WA this week, maybe. But it depends on the ensemble. Whatever that is. Run to the store & buy up all the eggs. Make sure you cook big breakfasts so you need more next week
Lots of people are working hard today so others can have a happy and safe day with family. I'm grateful for all the cops, EMT's, airport workers, truckers, grocery staff, food processors and others who are working under even more stress today. And farmers & farm workers, too.
Republicans and Democrats are both calling for this, now. I don't think either group buys into the straw-man arguments of lives vs dollars. They know that lives, dreams and institutions are at stake in both directions.

Ending academic and behavioral accountability, months of closures, social experimentation and frequent controversial curriculum mandates is what is damaging this important institution.
2024 will be defined by each state deciding if they will destroy 230+ years of public education insulation from religious control. Our Republic is unwinding and the right-wing is weakening the very institutions we need most right now - public schools!
In March House Republicans debated most of the night to try to prevent passage of SB5395, the intrusive sex-ed bill. The day after session ended we helped file and finance R-90 to repeal. Today, a record-setting 266k signatures were submitted. Repeal will be on the ballot.
