Sources: Expect Paul Skenes to be promoted to Double-A Altoona this week and activated prior to his start. Details currently being hashed out and official word to come in the next day or so.
According to
@AltoonaCurve
manager Robby Hammock, righty Thomas Harrington has been promoted to Triple A Indianapolis.
Harrington was 2-2 with a 2.24 ERA for the Curve this season in 13 games.
Source: RHP Jerad Eikhoff to be promoted to Pittsburgh. Was a non-roster invite to spring training this year. Will be interested to see who the roster casualty is.
ONeil Cruz, Canaan Smith-Njigba and Cal Mitchell in addition to Mason Martin all expected to get called up to Triple A Indianapolis to finish the season according to sources
According to
@AltoonaCurve
manager Robby Hammock, the rehab process for Henry Davis has been paused as he works back from a concussion.
He was 0-6 with 5 Ks in his time with the Curve.
BREAKING: Robert Morris University announces they’ve partnered with the Pittsburgh College Hockey to raise funds to support the reinstatement of RMU’s men’s and women’s ice hockey programs in time for the 2021-22 season
Just minutes after Penn State shuts out Indiana and WR coach
@CoachStubbs
is out playing with his son, Jagger. Cool moment to capture. Puts in perspective there’s much more to life than just coaching
A visibly emotional KJ Hamler stands at midfield soaking in Beaver Stadium as the current team leaves the field. Believe this is the first time he’s been on the field since he went to the NFL
Tonight is my last night at
@DKPghSports
. I’ve been here since 2018 and I can’t begin to thank
@Dejan_Kovacevic
for the opportunities he’s given me. I’ve done a lot of cool things and grown in ways I never thought possible.
It’s expected that Pirates 1B/DH Ji-Man Choi will head to Triple-A Indianapolis to continue his road back to Pittsburgh after his stint in Altoona this week
I’ve been covering the Curve and prospects since 2016 and I’ve not seen or heard anyone who has hit the ball quite like Oneil Cruz. It’s just got a completely different sound and in a good way. He will assuredly be fun to watch
Looks like it’s going to be Alika Williams who will be the corresponding roster move for Nick Gonzales.
Saw Williams with his equipment leaving the clubhouse a few moments ago
Happy birthday to my dude
@jrollisonpgh
miss being able to talk sports and life with you. Hope you’ve got a cold one and you’re enjoying it up there my man!!
Can confirm after talking with Curve manager Michael Ryan, SS ONeil Cruz will join the team for the series in Trenton. He was hitting .301 for Bradenton this season.

Some roster moves in Altoona per the team:
- INF Seth Beer – Promoted from Altoona to Indianapolis
- LHP Anthony Solometo – now on Development List
- C Eli Wilson – starts Minor League Rehab Assignment with Bradenton
Just completely heartbroken. This dude pushed me to become the best writer I could be. Without him I wouldn’t have had many of the opportunities I’ve had covering the Curve. Rest easy, Jason
Terrible news tonight: Jason Rollison, our colleague and friend, has passed away after a brief but bullish battle with cancer. His wife, Jessica, asked me to relay her hope that this can be shared with his friends and readers everywhere.
For what it's worth: GM Ben Cherington is in Altoona, and despite the game ending quite a bit ago, Miguel Perez and the players have yet to speak with the media postgame
I don’t believe Endy Rodriguez to Pittsburgh will be the move. If it isn’t, this is going to be the dry run to see how they both fit in the lineup every day
Best of luck to
@cotuck
should he be making his debut he’s one of the most genuine guys I’ve had the pleasure of covering. And in my opinion, he’s a face of the franchise type player
Jason Rollison and I started together with Pittsburgh Sporting News and quickly developed a friendship over living in Central PA and a love of baseball. Together, we earned the opportunity to cover the Curve for Pirates Breakdown
ROSTER MOVES: Jarrod Prugar pulls a Rodolfo Castro. Being promoted to Major League duty after time in Double A. Will be activated in Pittsburgh for
@DKPghSports
tomorrow before the game.
Wow. Insane ending in the Altoona Curve game.
Curve down 2-0 in the 9th had bases loaded with 1 out. Fly ball to left gets caught and Joe Perez gets thrown out at the plate after tagging up, lose 2-0
Curve losing streak now up to 14
If I’m the Pirates and I’m very clearly not my top 2 are:
1 - A) Dylan Crews
1 - B) Paul Skenes
2) Wyatt Langford
All have tremendous upside. Crews and Langford are middle of the lineup bats and all three could start in Double-A depending on what the Pirates have planned.
The Pirates look like they’re playing a bunch of painters. Wish there was just a hint of color in these jerseys. Instead just looks like priests vs painters
Scary moment here in Altoona with Liover Peguero getting hit in the helmet by a 93 mph fastball. Walks off under his own power which is always a good sign.
This is around the spot ONeil Cruz’s 463 foot, 120 mph homer landed yesterday.
For perspective that’s in the amusement park behind right field

Robert Morris took a step toward the return of men's and women's ice hockey as Derek Schooley was named head coach/director of men's and women's hockey operations Tuesday afternoon.
Cherington in town checking on guys and keeping tabs with those in the minors. Perez says this is something to expect moving forward throughout the minors in continuing to build the culture within the org
For what it's worth: GM Ben Cherington is in Altoona, and despite the game ending quite a bit ago, Miguel Perez and the players have yet to speak with the media postgame
Spoke to
@CoachKBo_HTP
about 14th RD pick Braylon Bishop earlier today. Seems as though he’s leaning toward signing, but is looking for $500k with the Pirates offering $250k initially. It’s expected they’ll meet in the middle but very likely to sign if it works out financially
The good news for Roberto Perez is the swelling from last night is going down. Andrew Knapp was to get the start tonight regardless, but I'd expect Perez to be back against the Brewers barring any setbacks
Announcing you’re beginning to celebrate 100 Years of RMU by cutting two of the most prominent athletic programs at the university is one hell of a start. Things don’t add up but would love to hear why this decision was made and why so late after the season rather than numbers
It’s been 3 years since
@jrollisonpgh
has left this Earth, but the people he inspired, mentored & brought together continue to do some amazing things whether they’re on beats, work in analytics, or on TV/Radio. We are so much better because of his vision. Miss you my friend.
The streak has ended. Altoona takes down Harrisburg to win their first game to end a 15-game losing streak.
Eddy Yean gets the win and Bubba Chandler notches his first save for the Curve.
Cranberry hasn’t been the only place experiencing actual hockey. Robert Morris hit the ice for practice for the first time since being reinstated. I caught up with
@LBittle8
to see what it’s been like.
Let's take a look at some of the numbers from the 2019-2020 season shall we. These do not take into account scholarships though, but these numbers can be found on the Equity in Athletics Data Analysis website. Something just doesn't add up here even without scholarship numbers.
Fun offensive strikeout statistics in the Pirates organization:
All teams but Indianapolis lead their respective leagues or are 2nd.
Bradenton 1208 (1st Florida State League) 10.78/game
Greensboro 1196 (2nd South Atlantic League) 10.77/game
Altoona 1071 (1st Eastern League) -
Rewatching Skenes’ outing:
Single 1: 0-2 pitch inside, hitter just got enough for the seeing eye single and Skenes avoided the barrel rather well
Walk 1: ball 2 and 4 looked very close, painted the black, but didn’t get either call
Strikeout 1: Impressive. Fell behind 3–1,
Before the press conferences begin, I just want to thank everybody for following along with me this year. It was my pleasure to be the voice you heard for Penn State football this year. While the regular season might be over, my coverage isn't over by any means.
Altoona will feature a loaded roster INF Oneil Cruz, RHP Cody Bolton, INF Ji-Hwan Bae, INF Mason Martin, OF Cal Mitchell, INF Rodolfo Castro, RHP Max Kranick, SP Roansy Contreras and OF Canaan Smith-Njigba
Altoona Curve manager Miguel Perez mentioned that since Oneil Cruz has continually gotten better at SS, he will start getting more reps at other positions in BP particularly the outfield where he will be getting reads off the bat
Former Penn State and current Las Vegas DE Carl Nassib came out as openly gay Monday afternoon, becoming the first active NFL player to do so in the process.
7-day FREE trial:
It’s also important to note that concussion recovery is an insanely fluid thing. One day could be great and the other could be brutal. Hoping for the best in his recovery
If you enjoy pitching this is the week to come to PNG Field and watch the
@AltoonaCurve
play. You get Jackson Wolf x 2, Anthony Solometo, Paul Skenes, Aaron Shortridge plus a TBD in there as well. Oh, and they’re facing Harrisburg who just so happens to have the 2023 No 2 overall
