This week, I've seen emails from US orgs decrying violence against Asian Americans, reassuring employees they are wanted. Same true, even if token, on incidents of race violence. I have NEVER seen any org in India do that to reassure employees during caste or religious violence

The most common attacks against Chandrachud include some variant of the term “woke” referring to his liberal stances. Issues on which he gets most attacked (and supported) are on gender/marriage issues, the collegium/judiciary. The most appealing topics are typically cultural.

Attacks against @sabya_economist are led by social media influencers, rather than experts questioning the data. That @AshokaUniv responded with a PR statement w/o empirical backing shows this a political hatchet job, carried out by those meant to protect research from politics.

Half-boiled eggs can go sulfurate but @sabya_economist 's paper, the investigation it opened will see iterations. Arguments may be framed differently, but in time, it'll move quant work on institutional capture in India You can block tweets, not citations. Wait and watch.

There has been a mismatch in access to top influencers in the Manipur conflict. While the Kuki-Zo community had better in-group organization, the Meitei community got more support consistently from handles of right-leaning influencers right from the start of the conflict.

It isn’t unusual for CJIs to be attacked online. Bobde was attacked for recidivist statements on women, Gogoi for presiding over his own sexual harassment case. The attacks on Chandrachud predate his elevation to CJI, there was an effort to discredit and block his elevation.

Academics can't really write op-eds. Op-ed writing needs an entitled belief that one's mostly unsubstantiated worldviews need to be read by one and all. Scholarly writing needs theory, data, citation, and an underlying faith that nobody will read, other than for citation.
