On February 24, Russia's most famous talk show host Ivan Urgant came out against the invasion of Ukraine. Urgant is the country's answer to Jimmy Kimmel, and has hosted more than 1,500 episodes. Immediately after speaking out, his show Evening Urgant was canceled.

Russian pop star Sergey Lazarev, who represented the country in 2016 and 2019 at the Eurovision Song Contest, deleted his Instagram account after receiving threats. Lazarev said that "nobody supports the war" against Ukraine. He had more than 4 million subscribers.

Some of Russia's most influential billionaires have also publicly slammed the invasion of Ukraine, including Tinkoff Bank founder Oleg Tinkov and Alfa-Bank founder Mikhail Fridman. Tinkov called the war "unthinkable and unacceptable," while Fridman dubbed it a "tragedy."

Before now, when anyone asked me how it feels to be in Moscow, I always said it feels the exact same as before. People around as normal, carrying on life. Almost no sign that anything was happening. That has changed. I definitely feel a difference.

Parallel imports into Russia mean that some shops have actually IMPROVED their selection since the war started. This convenience store is now selling Pringles from the UK, which it didn’t used to have. It even has Salt and Vinegar (!) which was really hard to find pre-2022

I love living in Moscow. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. Tucker is right that the supermarkets are fully stocked, the metro is clean, etc. But to say that Russians have it better than Americans because of a curated tour he had in the centre of a very rich city is absurd

Chinese cars are popping up all over Moscow. All the ride-sharing apps seem to have bought a load of HAVAL, CHERY and EXEED. I had never heard of these manufacturers before 2022 but now you can’t go 5 minutes without seeing one.

i'm used to Russians not reacting to anything (unless it directly affects them), but it is striking to me that nobody here in Moscow seems to give two shits about all the drone strikes

Russian rapper Face, who is regularly in trouble with the authorities, announced that he would not return home and condemned Putin's war. "The future of Russia is thought and freedom. We are the future of Russia. No to war. Freedom to Ukraine. Freedom to the Political Prisoners"

It’s amazing how quickly Moscow has returned to normal. When Putin announced mobilisation, the streets emptied of men and some scrambled to make rapid escape plans. Two weeks later, everyone still feels fear and anxiety - but , on the surface, Moscow looks the same as before

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has announced that Moscow is preparing a decree to restrict citizens of "unfriendly countries" from entering the country. The list includes EU, UK, USA, Ukraine, amongst others:

In summary: Moscow has barely changed. Some Western businesses have left, many have remained. Quality of life remains high, but more expensive. Many Muscovites are against the government's actions in Ukraine, but won't do anything about it.
