On this Christmas Day tens of thousands of nurses across health and social care will be caring for our communities as they have for more than 160 years. Thank you and Merry Christmas
Today marks 140 years since the death of Mary Seacole one of the pioneers of modern nursing. During her life Mary overcame adversity and barriers to provide compassionate care.
A huge thank you to those district, care home and community nurses and colleagues from primary care who are out visiting people, caring for people in need and providing vaccinations. For more than 160 years community nurses have cared for people at home 365 days of the year.
Completely overwhelmed by the lovely messages of congratulations following the Platinum Jubilee Honours. Thank you to everyone - I have tried to respond individually - apologies if I have missed you. I am grateful to work with amazing colleagues and I’m proud to lead

I’ve always thought that a national uniform for nurses is a good idea - easy to work out who’s in charge - important for pt safety. Alarmed to discover that District Nurse team leaders in two Health Boards wear a staff nurse uniform

Today, right in the middle of London, somebody ACTUALLY publicly insinuated hanging doctors and nurses for doing their jobs trying to fight this awful COVID pandemic. And people cheered.

NMCs role is not to increase numbers or make it easier for Universities to run courses (so try not to be proud of that) - their role is to protect the public. The proposals will lead to unwarranted variation and practitioners who don’t have expertise in their field of practice.
