Lots of people in Japan with surnames that mean middle and north village (中村、北村), and the odd west (西村). I'm curious to know why we don't see south and east village. Is there a reason for this? Just coincidence? Something else? Oddities like this kind of interest me.

Walking on escalators became illegal here in Nagoya around October 2024. I doubt anyone expected this law to be followed, so did the authorities just do it to cover themselves in litigation cases? (There are apparently many such cases according to posters).
