The NHL releasing some dumb Utah expansion news in the wake of the Hockey Canada information breaking is about as translucent of a news cycle manipulation attempt as I've ever seen.
In case you missed it, John Tavares and Russell Brand are selling the same mystery amulet that they pass off as having healing properties that also protect you from wifi and is backed by people who believe in mind control, which I did not have on any of my NHL bingo cards.
I feel bad these days for kids that didn't grow up with plastic Mylec pads.
Literally anyone could be a goalie in your neighborhood street hockey games. You could slide cross-crease on asphalt.
The straps cut the circulation off to your legs and serrated your skin but whatevs.
Crosby getting taken out with a head injury while playing some of the best hockey of his life for a second time doesn’t seem anything other than cruel.
This is wildly unnecessary. If I played in the UK, I would think long and hard about whether or not I want to take the ice in my next game knowing I could be liable for manslaughter if something horrible were to happen in the form of a freak accident.
Reminder to everyone that in 2015 Steve Simmons ran with a bad source on Phil Kessel eating hot dogs every day on the way home in an attempt to paint a picture of him as lazy and out of shape.
Kessel then went on to win back-to-back Cups in PGH without missing a single game.
Just a public service announcement. Don't gatekeep being a hockey fan. If you see a new fan ask a question that you'd consider "below you,", either don't comment on it, or take the opportunity to be a teacher and help them understand. We all started somewhere. More fans isn't bad
Yesterday my wife and I made the most important trade deadline acquisition of all.
A healthy, beautiful, 6lb 15oz baby girl. Everyone is healthy. Dad is an exhausted mess. We felt all your prayers and good vibes.
You know what the Pens are gonna take to their graves?
Back to back Stanley Cup titles.
You don't define a dynasty by its failure to 3-peat, you define by its ability to do something no one else in the salary-cap era of hockey has ever done. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise
Hockey isn't important right now. I won't stick to sports. If you support this, I do not want to talk about hockey with you, so you can leave now and save us both the trouble later.
The NHL tells you during this press conference that they take sexual assault allegations seriously while they simultaneously work to avoid the questions of the journalist who broke open the report on Chicago's sexual assault case.
This is literally a circus.
Reminder: if there’s someone out there you’ve been thinking of calling to squash a beef or just reconnect, do it. Life is short. Tomorrow is never a guarantee.
Hextall should be fired first thing in the morning. Let’s see how close this ownership group is paying attention and what their level of investment is. Big guns showed they can still play. Letting him poorly run the final years of the core is negligent beyond all comprehension.
In one trade, Kyle Dubas jettisoned all of Pittsburghs fat, a first and second round pick, and got back last years Norris Trophy winner and one of the best offensive defensemen in the modern era of hockey. That’s wild.
The Penguins announced today that the shipment carrying the Jagr bobbleheads for tonight’s game has been stolen en route to Pittsburgh.
As a result, the bobbleheads will not be distributed at tonight’s game, but will be distributed at a later date.
I've just been told the Pittsburgh
@penguins
are covering the cost of this charter. Class organization top to bottom. What an unreal experience for these girls to be able to have a ride to the game they rightfully earned their place in! What a great story for a Tuesday!
The greatest thing on the internet is Jaromir Jagr’s ongoing party in Pittsburgh. He’s been in Pittsburgh more the last two weeks than he has the last decade. Last night he ate a huge bowl of ice cream in the suite he was in. Dude is making up for lost time. Non stop party.
Got some news that my wife and I are super excited to share. Our expected babies per 60 has increased to 1 for the year 2021. Beyond blessed and estatic.
I hate the argument that Joel Quenneville and Stan Bowman "deserve a right to make a living." Are they only capable of working in the NHL? Is that the only job available to these two adult men? I was unaware they were ineligible for work in every other aspect of life.
@nolanbianchi
JAY BEAGLE SHOULDNT HAVE TO WATCH THIS LEVEL OF SKILL WHILE HES ON THE ICE
Is the funniest cry I’ve legitimately heard from an announcer in my life
Sidney Crosby has scored 500 goals. We all knew it would happen against Philly. What a moment. What a career. We are blessed to have been a witness to it.
Earlier this morning, I told my papap, my best friend in the world, it was okay to let go. I was gonna take care of everyone and he didn’t need to linger in pain.
He passed hours after I left. I appreciate the kind words, support, and love I have received from all of you.
Jack Johnson should not see the ice surface for the rest of this evening. Or series. He is woefully out of his element here and is bleeding scoring chances every time he steps on the ice. Mike Sullivan’s ship is going down and he’s ignoring the hole.
You’d think Tanner Pearson takes matters with Brendan Leipsic into his own hands when hockey comes back. I would imagine Jake Virtanen is on that list too. Lots of guys are going to be lining him up for a long time to come. Assuming he’s in the league.
The face he makes when he says Chicken Parmesan and Caesar Salad indicate this is a meal he's been served with 87 a few dozen or so times. That is a hilariously visceral reaction.
This is honestly unreal. My daughter paid attention to hockey for the first time. I might like this better than the regular broadcast. And they do such a good job of explaining the rules for kids.
Sidney Crosby is playing on another level right now. He’s seeing things before they happen. Changing the pace of the game with every puck touch. He is telegraphing things to the Rangers that do not exist and throwing ridiculous passes around them while they look the wrong way.
Since Crosby has come into the league, I don’t think you can name a player that has exhibited the level of chemistry Jake Guentzel has with Sidney Crosby. Not even Marian Hossa in his short time on 87’s line. It’s just a perfect match, no?
I don’t know if this is the last run with this core, but let’s enjoy it and not cannibalize each other. It feels like yesterday we were gearing up for Crosby and Malkin making their debut in Ottawa in 2006. This is a reminder to enjoy the rest of it, take nothing for granted.
Of all the comebacks the Penguins have had this year, it feels like this one is the biggest. They’re now within striking distance of the Islanders, they continue to control games outright, and they do not have Sidney Crosby.
This is an extremely dangerous hockey club.
Sidney Crosby is so good. I think that’s what frustrates me the most about this situation. We have seen his game evolve into something freshly dominant year after year. 1.20 PPG at 35 years old in the toughest division in hockey.
It’s criminal to waste it like this.
“I made a great decision everyone should be very happy about and to showcase that I am going to go private so I can hide from the overwhelmingly positive responses I’m getting.”
We are six years into Mike Sullivan’s tenure as head coach and the Penguins are arguably playing their most stringent systematic hockey right now. No coach has kept this level of longevity in the Crosby/Malkin era. Sullivan has found the perfect pace/style of play and has buy in.
Trying to remain as unbiased and fairly critical as I can but I cannot see that Trouba situation as anything other than an attempted clothesline. He extends his arm. This is dirty, there’s no other way to look at it.
Jake Guentzel is one of the most criminally underrated hockey players in the National Hockey League. I mean criminally underrated. Absolutely dominant this season with or without Crosby. Points in 20 of 21 games and no one outside of Pittsburgh is talking about it.
The perception and history of Crosby being whiner dates back to Ken Hitchcock in origin. He said it, people believed it, and every time Crosby got vocal with a ref, like every player does, people pointed at and said: "Look, just like everyone said! He's doing it again!"
I think this video is good because it’s shows the sort of organic bubble up that occurs when calls aren’t made. The onus on fixing shifts to the players. Lack of game management fosters this. You can just feel things boiling over because of dismissive refs.
Well, Torts just lit me up in his press conference about Kevin Hayes. Completely unprompted. That ought to be a joy for everyone for the next couple days.
The Penguins deserved better than what Tristan Jarry gave them today. This wasn’t a playoff worthy performance from him in any fashion. Four goals tonight, all from nowhere circumstances.
No Crosby, No Malkin, No Letang, No Rust, No Carter
Looking forward to five months from now when Sullivan doesn’t get nominated for the Jack Adams again because everyone will have forgotten about this by voting time and “he’s got Crosby”
People jumped down my throat when I said Malkin was generating chances just fine and was anchored by AHL talent on the wings so it didn’t matter. He needed help. He got help. Now behold the result. I’ll die on this hill if needed.
This is a Penguins team that could hardly produce a single competent forecheck in the final weeks of the season.
Punch me in the face metaphorically the next time I say a group of veterans like this can’t flip the switch.
I know everyone wants to panic but I thought the Penguins played well and probably should have won that game. This is the playoffs. It happens. From a process perspective, I have zero bad vibes.
Saying Bedard has had more impact on kids is literally an insane take and wholly ignorant of the work Marc-Andre Fleury has put in with youth over the course of *Bedards entire life span thus far.*
I'm at the point where I legitimately feel bad for people who don't watch Sidney Crosby every night. This run is unreal. He looks like he's at the top of his game. He's just bringing heat shift after shift after shift.
I will be tuning in to hear Mike Lange tonight. The truth of it is time is cruel & we don’t know how many calls the Hall of Famer has left. The voice of my youth, the finest human in hockey, I will cherish every word tonight. I hope you do too.
It’s a hockey night in Pittsburgh.
Hello Penguin fans. Good morning. A reminder that the Penguins shut out the top two teams in the West in the last two games. Enjoy that with your breakfast.
One of the coolest parts of Crosby's legacy is that he used a straight curve that none of his peers could have produced similar results with. It's a unicorn among blades. Whole league wants to bend their blades out from heel to toe for accuracy. Crosby went the other way.
The Devils are no joke. Their offense is elite. Best in the league. No one is using the area behind the net better than them. John Marino is playing like a Norris candidate. They aren’t just getting goals, their process is sound as hell. Gonna be a real problem all year long.
Happy Birthday to Evgeni Malkin. I was in attendance for this game, D20 I believe. One of the loudest reactions I’ve ever heard in that arena. One of my favorite goals in team history.
Jake Guentzel, remember when Sebastian Aho did this for you? Good luck to you thinking Nikita Kucherov or Brayden Point is doing anything remotely similar for you. You are now a nobody, someone who will always be in the shadows as long as you’re there in Tampa. You’re a coward.
Giroux laughing at Wilson as he skates off is a total win for Giroux. Wilson has value as a player and that’s 10 plus minutes he’ll spend off the ice in this game, and for what? Giroux made him miss on a dangerous check and then laughed at him. Doesn’t get much worse.
Can’t say enough about the leadership he brought in. He was instantly effective. I’ll never forget when he destroyed Kimmo Timonen behind the net. From there all the way to the Ottawa goal. He’s one of the most important wingers in franchise history.
You read that right.
That third period belonged to Sidney Crosby’s line. They were unstoppable. Every shift produced a multitude of scoring chances and put NYR on the ropes. Masterful performance.
