BREAKING: I'm hearing the Portland Winterhawks have struck a major deal in the closing minutes before the WHL deadline with the Brandon Wheat Kings for Detroit Red Wings signed 1st-round forward Nate Danielson. Danielson was the 9th overall selection in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.

An update on Cody Glass: Cody Glass has been rehabbing a previous injury and working out in Las Vegas Las Vegas’ team staff was able to concentrate on him in a way Portland’s couldn’t while on the road Glass is expected to be back with Portland in time for the WHL playoffs

A cool moment last night during introductions. The 7th man was Jonah in his goalie gear expecting to skate to the blue line @joelhofer123 turned to Jonah & said, "You're coming out to stand next to me near the goal right?" Jonah asked if he could. Hofer said, "Yes! Just do it!"

There is a change to the WHL Scholarship package for when a 15/16 signs a Standard Player Agreement. They now receive three years of schooling guaranteed. The normal rule is one regular-season game/one year of schooling for older players. Mike Johnston's full quote:

NEWS: I’ve spoken with several of my NCAA contacts, and I’m told Tyson Jugnauth is in fact leaving Wisconsin to sign and play with the Portland Winterhawks. These types of decisions usually happen quickly. I’m hearing Jugnauth’s debut with the Winterhawks will be this weekend.

Update on Cody Glass: He is listed as day-to-day with a lower body injury on the WHL Weekly Report. Glass is making the trip to Spokane, but is not expected to play on Wednesday against the Chiefs. However, he is going in support of his teammates.

Some good news for the upcoming season, the @pdxwinterhawks will have both of their import players available. Simon Knak and Jonas Brøndberg are flying into Portland within the next week. They will be in town in time for modified training camp and the start of the season.

If this happens, the Portland Winterhawks will be salivating. They’ve been SO CLOSE on landing several blue-chip American prospects but have lost out due to the concern of not being eligible for NCAA. Having the ability for players to still pursue that if they want, game changer!

Jamie Hikida, 12th round pick in 2021, with an eventful game. Used his speed to get around a defender for a breakaway which he converted. Later he shows off his hockey IQ with a cross-ice pass to setup a goal. Hikida's last shift he finished his check which rattled the boards.

The remainder of the WHL's regular season has been cancelled. Per the release, and points percentage, Portland won the Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy as the WHL Regular Season Champion. Playoffs still to be determined. In a release by the Winterhawks, players are returning home.

After speaking with Mike Johnston this weekend, Portland will be sending 7 players to NHL Camps: Alscher - Florida Hanas - Detroit Klassen - Colorado Kozak - Buffalo McCleary - Pittsburgh Špunar - Edmonton Stefan - Los Angeles None are expected to play in WHL preseason games.

I'm hearing Portland did not make any moves today and is keeping their current roster in place. Dating back to November 9, which is 22 games, the team has one loss in regulation. Joel Hofer and Simon Knak are expected back in the lineup tonight after missing a month for WJC.
