After thinking about this a bit, XL can be said to wear Xiuhefu/秀禾服 which is a reimagined, slightly more Han influenced style of Qunkwa. It's technically a newer (21st century) invention and tends to have more motifs like flowers/ butterflies ☺️

The 100 swords scene in book 4 is the culmination of this. It’s about XLs lack of control, his loss of bodily autonomy. About being held down and violated by people without his consent. They are stabbing him with a sword, but the imagery was visceral in more ways than one.

To wear hanfu at a wedding is not very common, even with the hanfu movement. Although I def see an uptick of young people wearing hanfu for engagement photos. Tang, Song, and Ming dynasty hanfu is particularly beautiful 😍

XL being a deconstruction of the HM trope is pretty obvious. We know his kindness and righteousness doesn't make him a doormat. Hes not infallible. Hes human. He can be a holy mother, but his story tells us his holy-ness is a CHOICE and not just "because that's how he should be"

No other BL donghua has aired this year. No SV, no Tianbao, no Thousand Autumns, no Dinghai, nothing. If it was safe I think we would have seen more movement and publishing of other donghua besides tgcf
