Capt Blackadder: Just one tiny flaw in the plan.
Lt George: Oh, what was that?
Capt Blackadder: It was bollocks.
Being British. Now there isn't even a plan....
Yet again I'm stunned at the mocking "ignore the antipsychs" responses on twitter. Do people genuinely not care that patients are harmed to the point of actually losing their lives? Or do they think we're making it all up? Seriously? Wtf?
When a person is brave enough to share a story of psychiatric harm to themselves or their family, is it really appropriate for a mh professional to start bleating about how awful that person is to hate psychiatry? Do some people literally have no ability to reflect whatsoever?
This headline is sickening. This so called "mental illness" is the perfectly normal response to trauma. Ffs, stop this utter nonsense and offer meaningful support, not drugs!
BBC News - Domestic abuse survivors 'more at risk of serious mental illness'
Isn't it funny how upset psychiatrists get when the lack of scientific validity of psychiatric disorders is pointed out?
If only they got as animated about preventing iatrogenic injuries to their patients from their 'treatments'?
Love heals. Leaving someone in this damaged and distressed state cannot possibly be described as "care". Shame on the people who condone and inflict this harm, without informed consent.
PS. I really do not like the first photo of me after being discharged from psychiatric " care " in 2015 after being poly drugged and given ECT I much prefer the photo of Jill and myself. I have recovered from my brain injury and am loving life nowadays.

The old strawman. This is deeply disingenuous. Now tell us antidepressants aren't dependence forming Carmine... And
@guardian
, this is irresponsible journalism. Shame on you.
Unfortunately stumbled across this unbelievably toxic statement today. Let's get this straight. Iatrogenically harmed patients are 'privileged, aggressive & out of touch'. Oh, & this 'gaggle' or 'coterie' are responsible for the harm they've suffered, not the prescribers. Got it.

None of you understand how the drugs work. If you did they wouldn't be causing so many adverse effects. Stop trying to pull rank please. It doesn't wash.
@DrMcFillin
I supported my friend Samantha with the assisted process in Switzerland. Samatha got chronic akathisia, TD, and dystonia from stopping a Benzodiazepine + Olazapine. She suffered for 5 years. No one should have to live in chronic akathisia 5 mins more than they feel capable.
Let's run this through one more time for the ones having trouble grasping the concept. It's not

It's called

Andy is unable to speak again tonight. It hasn't happened for a long time, so we're both a bit scared. I've tried to reassure him that his voice will return, but I know he's worried each time it happens.
This is

Further proof if needed that the profession of psychiatry has lost the plot. Who in their right mind drugs a 7 year old child with drugs that will inevitably interfere with their developing brain and nervous system. These people are criminally insane. Someone stop them please.

Just happened to see a thread about trauma involving several psychiatrists. Lots of babble about genetics, poverty (which they seem to have little idea about), and wondering why siblings raised in the same house are not all traumatised if one is. How can they be so clueless?

I find this upsetting, to say the least. Surely most old people are lonely, less physically able, & feel they are no longer useful. How exactly do these drugs and

@CatMiRuss
Did the lecturer mention that PHQ9 was designed and developed by Pfizer? It's simply like a trawler net with a huge reach and fine mesh that captures far too many fish.
I'm sorry, it must be very dispiriting.
It's my observation for today that many people with 'Dr' or 'Professor' in front of their name, frequently think that they are here to instruct and inform us all, and that they have absolutely nothing to learn.
I have a stinking cold and tonight I have sneezed so hard and for so long that I've pulled muscles around my ribs... Thank heavens for Nurse Suzie aka Lucy who has been very attentive. Is there anything collies can't do?
I had to block a few people recently, pressing me to condemn this doctor, one of the few who has the courage to facilitate the telling of these devastating tragedies.
I will not. These stories must be told.
Causality is a word psychiatrists like to hide behind. When anyone is harmed by a drug or procedure, they'll move heaven & earth to pretend it can't possibly have been caused by the 'treatment'. If patients experience benefit, OF COURSE it's caused by the treatment.
We see you.
The history of psychiatry is littered with stories of oppression and barbarity right up to the present day, with

This is so true... Four years ago today I met Andy in Winchester. He'd had almost 5 years of living or existing with a brain injury after
#ECT
, and only his own determination had kept him alive.
Forget diagnosis (theyre often wrong anyway), meet the man or woman before you.
Before I get on with my day: Psychiatry life is not about conditions and diagnosis. Life is about people and that is what Jill saw when she first met me. See the person always not the condition or diagnosis.
Dismissing harmed patients as 'trolls' and ignoring their suffering for decades will not be a good look for psychiatry in the not too distant future. We will document the evidence by keeping receipts.
If you imagine it's fine for patients not to be informed of risk simply because you or your loved one has benefited in some way from said treatment, have a word with yourself. Patients harmed without
#informedconsent
are not collateral damage.
Shouldn't need saying really.
A tough week. On Tuesday the funeral of a friend given

Say you have a chemical imbalance in a tweet and no psychiatrist will say a word to inform that this was simply a marketing slogan.
Say you have a brain injury from psych drugs or
#ECT
and all hell breaks loose.
But I ask you this. Which of these statements is misinformation?
Psychiatry trivialises memory loss after ect. Says it is just a side affect. It is much more than that it is a sign of brain damage. Our memories are connected to our emotions as are our emotions connected to our memories.both help define our very being. Andy luff.
My dear Dad, very much an "integrity first" person, died suddenly 43 years ago today. Always grateful to him for teaching me to do the right thing, rather than the thing that most benefited me personally.
Love and miss you Dad every single day.
Sick and tired of highly paid irresponsible fuckwits having a laugh at the expense of harmed patients. Get over your puerile selves and get a grip on the many issues being brought to the attention of your out of touch profession.
#PrescribedHarm
It's pretty disappointing to see how many people still believe in the *chemical imbalance* myth. Where have you been these past few years? Also disappointing to see very few doctors trying to correct the misinformation. Does the bs suit their own interests?
Today was a massive challenge for Andy, & he's absolutely shattered this evening, but SO happy he made it to the top. 12 months ago, balance and mobility issues from his
#ECT
brain injury would've made this impossible, but today we did it! Proud of his determination to overcome.
Well this is interesting. Irish Independent, 2 November 1993.

If someone’s bloodwork comes back suggesting that a pill is the only thing that will fix the extreme level of their issue, don’t you think that’s the first thing a doctor should suggest, instead of the last thing?

When will the UK government start taking

harm seriously? How many people on benefits are in that situation due to being damaged by 'treatment'?
We need to talk about this too.
We need to talk about this 😡
When will the UK government start taking mental health seriously?
Let’s look at some of the stigmatising language in this statement 👇 (1/5)
My beloved Dad would have been 99 years old today. He taught me his own values of standing up for what was right and I will always be grateful for that. I won't change Dad, whatever any shithead throws at me. 💞🫡✊️
Leave grieving people the hell alone instead of bombarding them with drugs and quackery. Shove that idiotic label where the sun doesn't shine. Go make your profits and comfortable living elsewhere.
It's one of those nights when I need to tell the
#PrescribedHarm
community that I think they are the best, the most talented, diverse, creative, empathetic, compassionate, funny, interesting and wonderful people I've ever 'met'.
I absolutely love you lot 😍💞
My heart goes out to all parents who have lost children to the shit show that is mh services. They shouldn't have to fight for justice. They've been through enough already.

I lost someone very dear to me this morning. I've never been actively suicidal but recognise the familiar pull of wanting to follow. Not caring about being here.
Stop meddling with what it is to be human. Grief &. pain are part of life. You are stealing that from those who love.
Everyone is already aware of
#suicide
& the need to prevent it. What many people aren't aware of is that adverse effects of psychiatric drugs can lead to suicide. I have to ask you again, why is this never mentioned by so called
#SuicidePrevention
'experts'?

Andy is angry today. Understandably. Here are his thoughts:
My name is Andy John Luff and I was given 4 ECTs in 2015.
I am angry this morning because:
1. I lost my career.
2. My job.
3. My friends.
4. My ability to learn and retain information is greatly reduced.

Psychiatrists and their adoring fans are very strange. They paint themselves into a corner and then invoke the cloak of invisibility when they encounter a question they can't answer honestly.
Are they so unsure of their ground that they can't just stay and make a case? Very odd.
Andy had five years of being unable to go out for days like these. I promised to take him back to Wales when we met in Winchester in December 2019, and now I've lost count of the number of times we've crossed the border together. I love to see him enjoying life again. Priceless.
It is with a heavy heart that we must report the passing of Robert Balfe

Hmm... the folk who call critics of psychiatry 'antipsychiatry' could do with remembering this.
The label 'antipsych' is an excuse not to learn from the many travesties which have resulted in injury and disability. Get over yourselves.

please explain how the levels of the two neurotransmitters are measured in the brain. What test is used to establish that a patient has low levels of dopamine and noradrenaline, before prescribing a controlled drug like a stimulant?
It's Andy's birthday today! The sun is shining so the three of us are off for a nice walk, and to try and avoid the bank holiday crowds.
Happy birthday my love 💓 🎂
Have you stopped for even a second, and considered how this thread lands on parents of kids who have lost their lives to this unethical scramble to prescribe these drugs to children? Perhaps you should.
Andy making excellent progress and in good news today, we have found him an excellent GP who is all for safe

of harmful and unnecessary drugs.
As requested, I'm posting again the comparison of how he was in January 2019 and where he is now.
Andy and I were reflecting this morning, that if it wasn't for the advent of social media, many in the
#PrescribedHarm
community would be suffering alone, disbelieved, with no support or understanding. The suffering hasn't stopped but validation of injury is beyond value. 🙏🏻💞
It's been quite a year. Andy is enjoying his work with other people living with brain injury, and goes from strength to strength. Thank you to all in our community here for your love and support. May 2024 be a great year of progress for us all. 💫🎊 🫂💞
Something is puzzling me. There are mh professionals on here who tweet about cruelty by the government wrt immigration, poverty etc, etc and yet they're quite happy to work within a system that is brutal, damaging, failing, and which ruins lives.
Cognitive dissonance?
It's my Beauty's birthday today. She is the best daughter, and a wonderful mum and wife. So proud of the kind and unselfish way she lives her life, and the family she loves. Beautiful soul ❤️
It's been quite a year for Andy and I. We're so very grateful to the
#PrescribedHarm
community for all their kindness and support. It means more than we can adequately express. Here's to supporting each other as we do so well in 2021. God bless all 🙏🏻💞🥰
A lot of this doing the rounds right now. Of course there is no shame in taking an antidepressant! Nor is there any shame in raising awareness of risk by those who've suffered severe adverse effects, like

. If doctors did their job, sufferers wouldn't have to 👇
Don’t let assholes on the internet guilt you out of meds. Usually they are con artists or euweeoos. They do a great deal of damage. And THEY ARE NOT DOCTORS.
Psychiatry has a big problem. It doesn't know when to stop itself. They bleat about 'antipsychs' (patient safety campaigners), but it's perfectly clear that psychiatry digs it's own grave by ignoring very real risks, especially to children. Rein yourselves in for pity's sake.

Blessed by the safe arrival of another grandson in Australia last night. I've just been to get the blanket in the post, with a little present for his proud big brother.
Winging it's way down under 🥰🙏
My beloved Dad would have been 100 today. In 2015 I flew to the US to see the airfield where he earned his wings in the RAF in 1944. Over 2,000 cadets were sent to Miami, Oklahoma as there was no capacity to train them at home.
Love and miss you Dad 💞💖
Psychiatry seems to suffer from a kind of mass projection. As if everyone else is the problem, never them. Have they never heard of reflective practice?
This is my incredible friend Sarah
@psychrecovery
who suffered these devastating injuries from
#ECT
. Why is psychiatry so reluctant to engage with such damage from a procedure that is poorly regulated & with many glaring lapses in safety? This shouldn't be happening.

At no point during any of my consultations with my psychiatrists was I ever listened to. I was talked at not with. If they had actually listened to me they would have found that I was explaining sensory overload due to my aspergers not so called "mental illness ". Andy luff
This kind of base cruelty is what many iatrogenically harmed patients are confronted with. Drs who are incapable of holding themselves accountable, and who mock instead of listening to patients they have harmed should be removed from their posts.
@eddyman123456
@Andreschmitz24
I have been laughed at, and sneered at a number of times by doctors too, when explaining what happened to me with PSSD.
I have also been told my PSSD symptoms were "health anxiety".
It was very hurtful how the profession causing this harm, has openly sneered and laughed.
@PritchardJemima
That's appalling, but sadly not uncommon. It locates the problem in the person who has suffered the abuse. This is completely wrong and unacceptable. I'm sorry this happened to you.
This 'study' is quite extraordinary. It suggests that anxiety about having
#ECT
is abnormal and that blunting is desirable.
Having seen the consequences of ECT brain damage, I'd say being anxious about having it is a sane, sensible and perfectly understandable response.
“Monitoring (Information seeking and paying attention to consequences)” leads to higher “ECT -related anxiety”. Study recommends reducing it ! All time low even for ECT researchers?

"Back in the day, some of these symptoms used to be called “feelings”. Psychiatrists and patients alike were instructed to listen to them–not just squelch them with medications."
Getting very tired now of the "side effects are awful, but mental illness is much worse!" type tweets. You're not listening to people who have actually taken these drugs, or had
#ECT
, and suffered life changing injuries as a result.
Ffs, get over yourselves and listen.
Friends, if it is your habit, can you pray, or do whatever it is you do to uphold and support a fellow soul in a desperate situation. The brutal assault on body, mind and soul of
#PrescribedHarm
must stop. Leaving people with no viable option for living is an abomination. 🙏🏻💞
Intrigued by his latest article for Psychology Today regarding antidepressant withdrawal, I found another great article from
@christophlane
on whistleblowing and medical fraud. One phrase jumped out for me:
Institutional Cowardice.
It really doesn't matter how badly psychiatrists on X behave, towards other professionals or harmed patients. There's always plenty of support for their vile behaviour, which is accompanied by a lack of empathy. If they were doing it to you, would it still be OK? I doubt it.
@NickTaber
A friend of ours was given
#ECT
in the late 1960s for being homosexual. He experienced cognitive difficulties and memory loss (brain damage) after ECT. There was no benefit.
Inpatient mental health settings are unsafe, and the problem is not simply lack of resources, but the culture within them. Panorama's exposure of
#Edenfield
identified many areas of concern. Another promising young life lost, another devastated family. Change is long overdue.
Reports of abuse or death in inpatient mental health settings are becoming an all too familiar occurrence.
Patients, and their families, deserve to feel safe in mental health settings.
You'd be depressed after ECT too if you were left with severe cognitive impairment and memory loss. Why do you people fail to acknowledge these life changing injuries?
There are 3 ways to prevent depression after ECT:
1. CBT Therapy
2.
#Lithium
+ nortriptyline (or SNRI)
3. Maintenance
#ECT
(eg, monthly)
In this large study of 19,944, maintenance ECT lowered hospitalization rates by 60%:
