That's the translation of the first verse of the Dasagitika.
It begins with a tribute to Brahman.
In fact, it says Aryabhatta sets forth the book only AFTER having paid reverence to Brahman.
Ingredients of a popular hitjob on the Cholas:
-Grandiose claims about 10th century substantiated by 20th century novels
-A singular incident from a folk ballad with a wrong timeline
-Political rhetoric disguised as reasonable argument

Kautilya begins the chapter by saying that the term Sasana is to be used only for royal writs.
Right at the outset, he stresses on the importance of Sasanas, that they are as important as treaties (Sandhi) and can lead to peace and war.
Brahmagupta was both an heir and counterpoint to Aryabhatta's legacy (One could write a whole book on Brahmagupta's criticism of Aryabhatta).

The point is simple.
In India, science and math were never seen as an anti-thesis to religious belief.
Creation myths existed & were revered.
At the same time, those wanting to understand "how it all came to be", strived in their pursuit of knowledge.
Assuming that speaking the same language is essential to the continued existence of a nation, and not having one would lead to it “falling apart” is a very Tower of Babel-esque notion.

Calculative? Yes
Casteist? No.
Of course this Ekalavya story of being a “shudra” rejected by a “Brahmin” is totally fake. The Mahabharata says no such thing.
Ekalavya is a prince. It isn’t of him being “low caste.” It is Dronacharya’s moh for Arjuna and his being in the pay of the King which stops him.
