@Wolfiesmom
Hi Valerie. Did you know that the majority of churches are under a hundred people? That many of those pastors have to be bi-vocational in order to survive? I make a very modest income. Did you know that churches account for the majority of efforts to take care of the poor?
Do
@PuritanTruths
What a gracious response to our own church “cancel culture.” God, give us more leaders who wrestle with the intersection of holiness and love in true humility.
@PamKeithFL
2/2. The gospel records the unborn John the Baptist as recognizing the unborn Jesus. How can you possibly be describing the Jesus of the gospels when you don’t understand who He is? Please consider a good theology book. Cheers.

@RonCharles
For pity sake. I understand you may have objections to what she said, and certainly there are many sad things in Christian history. But clearly you misunderstand the Kingdom of God to compare it to Sharia.

@BobWoodson
Gary, It is correct to say that the theory of CRT itself is not taught in our schools. The problem is that CRT is being embraced by educators and they are encouraging teaching to be done thru that lens. There is clear evidence that it is embraced and shaping curriculum.
@ArmenThomassian
Sir, I have known Bob since the early 70’s. You are way off the mark by using that language to describe his music and leading. Bob is a committed believer, lover of God’s glory and desires to build up the church with solid, singable, doctrinally clear songs.
Good grief man,

@Wolfiesmom
Christian philanthropy accounted for 70% of all American philanthropy in 2022 at $300 billion total. Christians also out-gave the U.S. Government in addressing global poverty.

Whatever folks might say or think, the church remains a seismic value-add to the world.

There are only a couple of things creepy and terrifying here:
1) the person filming these moments
2) the massive assumptions and predictions that are formed about these kids without context.
@newvangelicals
If God is not on the throne and not ultimately in control, then I don't want to live in this world. It is to be hopeless. You are pontificating from the sidelines while Ukrainian Christians huddle in subways singing of that hope. Please.
@ChristnNitemare
I’ve seen the phony and the real. Can manipulation occur? Of course. But for those who been under the influence of the Spirit of God, these moments are priceless and transforming.
Fire at will.
@ArmenThomassian
Sir, you labeled him as the sole reason anyone would need to stay away from a conference. You used the words “effeminate vibe”. You said we could call it a “preference if we like” but…. It was a needless tweet that contributed nothing.
"Their soul shall be as a watered garden.” Jer. 31:12. “Enclosed from the waste, walled around by grace, planted by instruction, visited by love, weeded by heavenly discipline, and guarded by divine power, one’s favoured soul is prepared to yield fruit unto the Lord."
@CHSpurgeon
@JustinPetersMin
So the casting out of demons in the book of Acts were carried out by frauds? Or that just conveniently stopped with the end of the gifts - i.e. cessationism?
Boom
"Christian worship is formation. Given the accessibility of worship songs, the entire theology of this generation globally is being shaped by a dozen or so musicians in three different countries. That is what disturbs me."
@JustinPetersMin
Justin, you have an incredibly narrow swath of charismatics that you derive your info from. I know charismatics from all over the world and as a “rule” they are nothing like you describe. It’s unfortunate that you continue your broad brush attacks.

@LibertyU
@LibertyFlames
Sir, your every comment regarding LU just provokes in a tweet load of negativity and reminders of why you had to step down. It’s not needed or helpful. Tend to your own house and be quiet.
"You lifted from my shoulders the dark load
Of all my sin and flung it far from me
As far as east from west. Now all my road
Lies open, and with eager eyes I see
The places you prepare for me to go,
The tasks that you appoint and set for me."
Thank you

Oh for crying out loud. She also believes the scriptures that declare the equality of people before God. The Bible speaks of roles/responsibilities that people have. None of those allow for a dictatorship. My role as a pastor is to serve others. Likewise a husband to his family.
Just finished chapter 7 of Seven Things I Wish Christians Knew About the Bible by Michael Byrd.
@mbird12
That was one of the most helpful and encouraging things I've read in a long time.
Great book!

@OutFrontCNN
With respect sir. You are a lawyer, not a theologian, and you misrepresent evangelicals with this kind of talk. It will take decades to overcome the damage done due to the unquestioned support of this president. Mixed signals are deadly things.
@JerryFalwellJr
A wise move sir. As an alum I urge you to hire a Christian higher education president for LU and then go pursue your political aspirations. Doing both is damaging us and I want to be proud of my school. You have been making that so difficult. Respectfully.
@ScottAniol
Scott ... There's no such thing as "charismatic music". If you are referring to lyrical content, you can find poor material from Isaac Watts to (Insert songwriter you don't care for here). You can also find really outstanding, soul stirring, doctrine affirming songs too.

@BradyShearer
I remember in college (74-78) weeping over Rudolph Bultman and others trying to uncover the "historical Jesus" by demythologizing the NT. The issues have been around forever. Men earnestly desire to make themselves judges of the Scriptures rather than be measured by them.

Not agreeing with you does not make me afraid of you.
Not agreeing with you does not mean I hate you.
Not agreeing with you does not mean I’m judging you.
Not agreeing with you does not mean I disrespect you.
It means I disagree with you.
“The Bible has good news. There is an uncreated and eternal Light. His name is Jesus and he conquers darkness. Remember today that whatever fear is in you, the hope of Christ outshines it; whatever suffering you face, the love of Christ is brighter; whatever sin you’ve committed,
@gpackiam
Great thread Glenn. I wonder if you might address a deeper issue - regardless of motives i.e. presence, mission, gimmicks etc... are we possibly cultivating a culture of musical celebrity and spectators?
@conspiracylife
You’ve never gotten confused? She knew she was wrong right away but now she’s a bitch and part of the vast “they” that don’t care about the collective “you.” How can a person spend 20 minutes on a game show and you know them so well. Smh.
@flemingrut
I’ve always appreciated John Bunyan’s comment that “there is enough sin in one of my prayers to send me straight to hell.” It’s an odd line for comfort but it reminds me how needed and generous grace is.

I agree. However, sitting in court judging a case is entirely different from reacting to one’s own reputation being destroyed and harm brought to his family. I’m sad for both people today.

Odd, I am very edified. If I was praying in public then interpretation is required. I simply allow the Holy Spirit to intercede through me according to God’s will. 1 Corinthians 14:14 - For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays but my mind is unfruitful.
@Truthbe42664986

Your sentiments are noble however I always pause when someone mentions Jesus and the reason He came, omitting His own testimony- “even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Gospel of Matthew

That’s one genius investigator.

I spent time as a youth pastor in a well meaning but legalistic / immature place. Lots of those kids still rag me about what they threw away. That led to my involvement with Tipper Gore and the PMRC as their main researcher and presenter. Got the stickers but damaged my soul.

I’m sure you might agree that
@james_ka_smith
brings a lot to the table as well. My great burden is a church being formed by music and message while often being absent creed and Table. We drift “thin.”

I have to ask. Why was she filming in the first place? Kids know when they are being “put on the spot” and get embarrassed. Not defending the airline but just odd.

No amen. If God chooses to awaken someone through a dream, He can do so. Does it need to be heard, compared with the Scriptures and an affirmation of faith made? Yes. I love the Word of God but when did people decide that is the only way God’s Spirit can speak to someone?
“A gospel-centered church is okay with its own decreasing — in reputation, in acclaim, in legacy, even in (gasp) numbers, but especially in self-regard — so long as it serves the increasing of the sense of the glory of God.” -
@jaredcwilson
@forthechurch
@JustinPetersMin
Justin, that simply isn’t true. There is a significant difference here. As a Charismatic Evangelical myself, I would never for a moment equate anyone’s “word,” “dream,” or “vision” as anything but poppycock if it disagreed with scripture nor would we equate it with Scripture.
