🧵 DoD tells us that civilian harm mitigation is important, but it doesn’t tell us why. While the moral & legal reasons are better documented, there’s limited scholarship on the military justifications. That’s what I try to provide in

The White House said that bad weather grounded Trump’s helicopters. Yet bad weather did not stop Macron or Merkel from attending ceremonies. And it did not stop Dunford or Kelly from attending the very ceremony to honor the war dead that Trump skipped. Me:
I am thrilled to share with you the news that I have been selected for promotion to Lieutenant Colonel. This achievement wouldn't have been possible without Teresa’s unwavering support, love, and understanding. Her sacrifices and encouragement have been my strength throughout 1/4

If you want to honor service-members, then stand up for the values they protect & promote. A war criminal directly contradicts every value we’re asked to espouse

If Congress had any honor of its own, Trump’s incitement of unlawful behavior by the troops under his command would be yet another count in the articles of impeachment against him. My

Was in an O8 call when someone, not on mute, stated “this whole thing has been an abortion from the start.”
O8: “uhh, I think someone forgot to mute the mic.”
Makes it even better because the last speaker pops up on the main floor of the JOC.

I’m screen-shotting any military I see supporting Wednesday’s events & sharing with the Intel section. People supporting the overthrow of our government shouldn’t hold security clearances
1 of my medics created a blood transfusion kit that fits behind the body armor, enabling care closer to point of injury & saving space on the kit. It’s also a 1/3 of the cost of the current blood transfusion kits. CA has the best medics in the Army.

The NYT report on casualties from America’s air war is important. But the primary responsibility for civilian casualties lies with the terrorists who concealed themselves among the innocent. They wielded our own values against us as a weapon of war.
As someone that went to Afghanistan & didn’t commit war crimes, I fully support the ICC’s investigation. War crimes contradict everything everything we tried to achieve & are an insult to those of us that did the right thing. Soldiers & the Afghan people deserve better
The International Criminal Court recently announced it was looking into war crimes allegations against the U.S. in Afghanistan.
Now, the Trump administration is pushing back with an executive order targeting ICC staff.
Interesting discussion on statehood & intl law. Do States have rights? Where do individual rights & collective rights cede to each other? My question: what would one replace for States?

Once saw a change of command where the incoming CDR spoke longer than the outgoing CDR, broke down in tears more times than outgoing CDR, & changed the company mascot.

Last night Teresa & I accompanied a soldier in my company, along with his family, to his mosque for evening prayers & Iftar. A number of other soldiers in my company also attended with their significant others. It was one of the more memorable times in my career.

A lot of people who I hold in high regard recommended this book, & it still surpassed all expectations. Excellent research, argument, & great footnotes!

Everyone knows SOF has great training, deployments, & hella good hair. Did you know we also prioritize families, though? Thankful my command sent me home in time for the birth & allowed/forced me to take parental leave.
Teresa is my hero & even more amazing that I knew. Baby (over 9.5 lbs) & mom are doing great. Women are superheroes, & I’ve never felt more helpless in my life.

In WWII of the 36.7 mil casualties, 47% were civilians. 95 of 101 armed conflicts between 1989-96 were intrastate, & some estimate civilians account for 90% of casualties.
