@Baddiel
This, 100%. Also, when his wife phoned him at No. 10, saying she thought she had Covid-19 and he dashed home, why did he then go back to work a few hours later. Was this not 100% in contradiction of the rules at the time?

@DefundBBC
If Lineker’s salary was reduced to £160k (not bad for a part-time job) the saving would fund TV licenses for 10,000 over-75s. And if he refused the pay cut, I’m sure one of the talented local BBC journalists in redundancy consultation at the moment would do the job for £160k!
@afneil
Think of it this way. Most of the cost of renewables is upfront - they need maintenance, but there is no fuel cost. So if a developer is going to commit capital upfront, they need certainty of an adequate return - which can only be provided by a commercial contract or a subsidy
@SouthamptonFC
Need to look forward now and be positive. No point whinging about what’s happened - the most important thing is that the management learn some obvious and valuable lessons
@JeffStelling
Every referee in Europe should refuse to participate in games where Mourinho is the manager, as a show of solidarity for their colleague and on the wider principle that they are entitled to a basic level of respect
@Peston
What are you talking about? The starting salary at the foreign office would be maybe £20-25k. I don’t know where you’ve got the idea that Goldman or Google is paying £300k starting salaries???!

@pritipatel
Outstanding - and great that she called out the racial abuse she suffered only recently at the hands of
@guardian
, which was appalling
@ArchRose90
We had a Queen from 12 days after he was born, until last September, by which time he was 70 years old. Just confirms that some people will get angry about literally anything to get attention!
@BBCSport
@danroan
The extent to which some managers are complaining at the moment is absurd. Everyone is being asked to make (sometimes huge) adjustments to their work and life routines. Being asked to play a football match with over 48 hours notice is not a big deal!
@AlfieHouseEcho
Does anyone else find all this talk of bravery and courage a bit over the top? I don’t want the players to land on the beaches at Normandy - I just want them to cut out the stupid errors and score more goals than the opposition!
@henrywinter
@danjhargraves
In other areas of life you would avoid people who had displayed this level of incompetence, and avoid using them wherever possible. I don’t know if Mike Dean is incompetent or biased, but I think the club is totally justified in asking that he is kept away
@EmmaKennedy
@piersmorgan
This isn't about gender or even Piers Morgan. It's someone who wouldn't know the truth if she tripped over it. Enjoy your book!
@AllisonPearson
This isn’t really right, I’m afraid. France is experiencing numerous problems with its nuclear fleet, to the extent they have been importing electricity from the UK. The French have huge subsidies to alleviate the energy crisis, which will need to be funded, as in the UK
@SouthamptonFC
Prediction - start with momentum, squander some chances, eventually score, look like rabbits in the headlights, concede 2, bring on Shane Long to run around a lot to no purpose, lose 2-1.
@AdamBlackmore
Started with Mara taking a short corner in the first minutes while our centre backs were in the Sunderland box. Why he is anywhere near the team God only knows - not the only one to blame today, but that one poor decision set the tone for the whole game.
@AllisonPearson
Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan was paralysed by grief at the death of Empress Mumtaz in childbirth, and built the Taj Mahal in her honour, as her resting place. Charles wanted to be Camilla’s tampon. I’m not sure the headline is quite right…
@AdamBlackmore
Thanks Adam - a balanced assessment, with which I wholly agree. Sport Republic took a gamble on Nathan Jones, but it hasn’t paid off. He has obvious shortcomings, both as a manager and as a leader, and needs to be replaced if we are to have any chance of staying up
@MarinaOLoughlin
The best high street coffee without exception, and better than many specialist coffee shops, is McDonalds filter, and it’s only £1.29. It really is excellent.
@simon_schama
Price caps themselves were originally a Labour policy, proposed by Ed Miliband, rubbished by David Cameron but then introduced by Theresa May
