People quickly forget the 10,000 undocumented Irish in US. Michael Lowry TD raised the need to regularise their status with Taoiseach in Apr'23. Also called for visa programme to be put in place to protect them. 9 mths later he's denying shelter to asylum seekers in Roscrea.

It's important to put the alleged "dramatic rise" in asylum applications in Ireland in perspective. Numbers have gone from 0.27% of the population in 2022 to a likely 0.39% in 2024. Total numbers for the year will be less than half the crowd at a typical Munster hurling match.

Direct Provision. Complicity in war and oppression. Homelessness. If we make ending those a priority in Ireland in 2019 it will be a year worth getting out of bed for. If we succeed it will be one worth celebrating.

This is where misleading reportage and irresponsible local actions lead to. One day it's 'concerned citizens', next day it's arsonists. What next? Time for some proper leadership from politicians and churches. #RefugeesWelcome

Sickening to see mosque in Galway was vandalised in early morning attack. And equally sickening to see groups & individuals online who incite & envourage these attacks. #NoToHate

Local communities don't burn down buildings. Groups and individuals who spread lies and incite violence find the people to do it. And they don't care about the consequences for the communities they divide and hurt.

New #Covid19 clusters in #directprovision centres. This could have been avoided by moving people out. Social distancing has never been possible in centres; with returns to work this is putting people in impossible & dangerous situations @HMcEntee @rodericogorman @DeptJusticeIRL
