Kenya currently only meets about 15%-20% of her honey demand. One of my goals this year is to help anyone who aspires to become a beekeeper. Feel free to reach out.. I'm happy to help.

After consulting for many beekeepers around the Country, I've noticed a trend where most people start beekeeping projects and give up in a few months. Here are some reasons why most beekeeping projects DO NOT actualise. This🧵is purely based on my experience on the ground.

A) The Queen There is only one Queen in every colony. She lives the longest(3-5 years) this is extremely long compared to the other bees. Her main duty is to lay eggs.she lays between 1500-2000 eggs EVERY SINGLE FREAKING DAY!!no holidays,no long weekends....just mayai, mayai mayai

3)Lack of proper checks. In cases where some farmers buy very good equipment, most will not conduct proper and regular hive inspections. Hive need to be checked and cleaned atleast once a month.Otherwise you will keep loosing your colonies to pests such as spiders and waxmoth.

1)Like everything in life(From relationships to business), THINGS DONT GO WRONG...THEY START WRONG. Beekeeping is a long term commitment . Majority of people are only motivated by huge profits in the short term. This doesn't happen with beekeeping.

4)Not building relationships with your bees. Bee colonies are very different and have very unique behaviours & personalities. As a farmer you need to know each hive very intimately. It's same like having cows or dogs each are very unique.Dont generalise.Keep records on each hive.

If you're sitting at a coffee shop or just chilling at home and you see a bee,it's a worker bee that's out looking for food. They can travel a distance of 4-6kms just to look for food and water.Once a worker bee uses its sting ,it sadly dies. They are the Recce Squad of the hive.
