Starting a thread to consolidate everything I've written.
I write about DeFi, crypto products, and macro investment themes.
Start with this article if you're new to DeFi, and check out the rest of the thread for other deep dives!
I put together a state of the union for crypto portfolio trackers. Sharing a framework that other builders might find useful if they're working in the portfolio management space, and some recs for the best trackers. Details in the thread.

gm! Excited to share a life update: after six years at Meta, I'm finally taking the jump and joining Web3 full time. I'm joining
@bitski
as Head of Product!
I'm thankful to
@donnie
and the team for the oppt to help shape what the future of wallets look like.
Life update - I recently joined the
@MagicEden
product team to work on
@MEonBTC
! It's only been a month or so but I've been pretty blown away by how impressive the team is. Everyone here is super humble and passionate about crypto and NFTs and it's been an absolute blast.
Excited to launch the
@MagicEden
Wallet publicly to the world today!
The Magic Eden Wallet is an NFT first x-chain wallet experience. It's available as a Browser Extension today with full support for Bitcoin, Solana, Ethereum, and Polygon. Sharing a bit more about the wallet:
We launched a new mobile experience for the Bitski Wallet and a new Bitski Browser Extension today! Super proud of the team for shipping one of the best mobile wallet experiences out there.
Sharing some thoughts on where I think the next generation of wallets is going.
Super excited to share what I've been working on - the new ME Wallet! There are a lot of great wallets out there, but I've always felt that there's an oppt for a wallet to treat NFTs as a first class citizen and build a holistic experience around that. This is just part 1 :)
Introducing Magic Eden Wallet, a wallet made for Magic Eden users and cross-chain collectors.
Beta version is now live and only available to a small group of early testers!
Want to give it a try? You can get on the waiting list by downloading the extension and entering your

Working on a state of the union and a deep dive across different crypto wallets. Planning to test Metamask, Coinbase Wallet, Kepler, Rabby, XDEFI, and Terra Station. Any others I should check out?
I was super confused when I first started in Ordinals since itโs hard coming over from ETH and not knowing what wallet to use or bridge to use.
One of the reasons we built the ME wallet was to simplify the x-chain NFT experience. Trying to get 1% better every day ๐ช๐ป
The EASIEST way to get started in Ordinals:
1. Download
@MagicEden
Wallet
2a. Send BTC to Wallet
2b. Send another token (ETH/SOL) and swap it to BTC within the wallet
3. Go to Magic Eden's Bitcoin section & starting collecting
Yes it is really that easy!

Here's the short version:
If you're looking for a good basic portfolio tracker for popular tokens and some NFTs,
@zapper_fi

@zerion_io
are good fits
If you're a more active DeFi user outside of Ethereum, you should probably use
@DeBankDeFi
or
@ape_board
Please shill your favorite portfolio management trackers for DeFi and NFT use cases. Going to play with all of them next week and share learnings.
Currently testing Zapper, Zerion, DeBank, Cointracker, and Apeboard. Need good NFT tracking recs.
@ljxie
Taking the ETH I had out of Coinbase and actually playing with dApps and buying NFTs. Made me realize crypto was not just an investment vehicle, but also internet money. that and OHM since I had never seen such high APYs, which made me discover all of defi.
I made an anon account where I post raw notes for my NFT and DeFi trades. Basically short form version of a trading journal I keep to hold myself accountable.
Will still post proper write ups here though :) but the anon thing is pretty fun
@capsule_house
@itsoksami
but seriously, thanks
@itsoksami
for everything you do for capsule house! super impressed with the initial community building, the gas efficient contracts, and everything else!
Key skills for playing the meta games in web3
1/ Ability to filter information quickly and accurately
2/ Finding the right communities
3/ Treating it as a game and having fun
We believe the future is x-chain. We know there are a lot of wallets out there, but as we've been building out marketplaces on all the chains, we've noticed a challenging moment in the user journey where a user has to go through 3+ different wallets in order to get started.

1/ Don't sit on the sidelines, actually dogfood
Crypto is scary and you can lose a lot of money, but your ability to actually understand the space requires putting some skin in the game. It's hard to understand the friction of different actions without trying it out.
@bitski
@donnie
Ultimately, I chose the wallet space since my background is mostly in consumer product, and I believe that wallets are an absolute must have in navigating Web3.
@bitski
@donnie
Consider allocating a small learning budget and use L2s for DeFi or buy some cheaper NFTs and hang out in the Discords. Your ability to ramp up requires actually participating, not just observing.
@kumoxworld
I love the artwork in the project, the fun dialogue in the community, and the vibes! Picked this one up since I like to believe she captures my essence ๐
DeFi changes every day, which makes keeping up difficult. I use a simple framework to structure the DeFi ecosystem which helps me ramp up when I find a new ecosystem I want to explore. Sharing the framework and steps below.

2/ Find an area you're interested in and start contributing
The beauty of Web3 right now is that everyone is insanely collaborative and there's an oppt for everyone to contribute if you look hard enough. It's also a great way to dip your toes in the water.

I loved my time at Meta, but have been obsessed with Web3 over the last year, so am excited for a chance to start using the content from my threadoooooring to actually build better products in the space.

If you're in product, you can jump in and help project manage different workstreams for projects you like etc, contribute industry landscapes, etc. The sum of these little actions helped me narrow down the space into problems I was most interested in.

2/ Cross-chain SWAPS powered by our friends at
@exodus_io
; natively go between all the chains we've supported within one wallet. No need to worry about finding bridges.
@chrismaddern
@mdudas
Agreed. Think wallets should support folks who want to self custody but also offer simpler solutions for those who want to abstract the complexity. It's why we built a wallet with email/password creation that has hardware level security and mobile accessibility at
@bitski
:)
3/ Native in-app claims: we've also spent a lot of time thinking about - how do we elevate a wallet from just being a utility product to more of an experience product?
There are a lot of wallets out there today, and we're going to work hard to make this one different ๐ซก
@bitski
@donnie
While wallets today just hold your tokens, I think there's going to be a natural converging of wallets, portfolio management tools, and social context apps over the next few years, and am excited to think through it.
Introducing Creator Tips on Magic Eden๐ช
Collectors now can optionally support their favorite creators by applying a tip when listing or buying Ordinals on Magic Eden!๐ค
13/ Overall recs:
a) if you're using DeFi and NFTs actively, get CoinTracker

c) if you do a lot on dApps but are mostly on ETH, then choose either Koinly or CoinTracker
d) if you're active on non ETH, use CoinTracker

Realized my lack of tweeting is highly correlated with my level of confusion when learning new DeFi concepts ๐ฌ working on PM simplified explanations of some Arbitrum farming options.
After creating my logo, it takes me to the wallet creation flow. This is definitely easier than setting up a self custody wallet. There's no seed phrase, but there is an extra passcode for my wallet. Will be curious to see when they ask for that pw vs my Nike pw.
Users can customize on two dimensions 1/ the background color for the logo and 2/ what version of the Nike logo they wanted. I went for a minimalist look
Unexpected but pleasant surprise: despite inflation everywhere, United cross continental Wi-Fi is the cheapest I've ever seen. And Twitter loads for free ๐
On the DeFi side, Iโve been really excited about
@gmx_io
which has been an amazing source of stable yield across lower risk assets. It generally fluctuates between 40-50%.
One thing I've noticed with all these web2/3 integrations is that the wallet is an integral part to the experience. However, I think what Nike does well is it gives you a reason to understand why you have a wallet; because you need something to hold your .swoosh card.
The main profile page is still sparse, but you can see the details of your NFT. Interesting decision to abstract out a lot of the blockchain details, but tbh probably the right call since this is meant to be scalable to larger audiences.
At Bitski, our framework for building has two principles:
1/ We invest in non-regrettable primitives. I donโt know if DeFi, NFTs, Web3 gaming, or something else drives broader adoption. But I do know that people need to see all their digital assets, use different chains, etc.
Is anyone else suddenly getting an influx of growth hacky Twitter notifs? Starting to get spammed with useless pushes to engage me... And no ability to selectively mute useless notifs ๐
After you set up your wallet, you're taken to a page that does a nice job breaking down what minting is, how the blockchain works etc. I think this struck a nice balance of approachable content while giving users the choice to learn more if they wanted to.
