Dictator’s daughter questioned why a journalist is still in the country even after dictator’s only son won the elections.
Karen is a Filipino and she has every right to be here.EVERY RIGHT.
This is the Philippines and it belongs to the people, it’s not owned by your family.
Robredo: Napakalaking birthday po ito sa akin. Ito pong BARMM ang madalas kong puntahan. What I can promise the Bangsamoro people, is that the Robredo presidency will be a supporter and a champion of the peace process.
To my journo friends, if you are all attending a presser and one journalist is being openly disrespected by an official, you have a MORAL DUTY TO STAND UP FOR HIM/HER.
This is abuse and you need to speak up.
If you don’t, you owe that person, and the rest of us an apology.
Filipino fisherman Joven Jacinto shows us the sketch he made of the Chinese vessel. “Hindi na po ito bangka, barko po ang laki ng bumangga sa amin. Yung una nilang binangga ay yung harap ng barko nila, pagbirida po nila yung boom nila ang nakaputol ng mga palo ng bangka namin.”
We should care about Ukraine, about Palestine, about Taiwan.
Because there will come a time when it will be our turn to be oppressed…. And we’ll be praying the world will also care about us. 🕊❤️🇺🇦🇵🇭
Incredible scenes here in Ayala Avenue.
Having spent many years covering politics in the country, this I have to say is one of the biggest gatherings we’ve ever seen in a long time.
“Gusto ko po manawagan.”
She approached me and asked me to film her. 88 year old Anastasia Baroro tells me she wants to be reunited with her daughter who lives from another town. Anstasia was rescued after home collapsed beneath her.
Her daughter’s name is Violeta Baroro.
That ‘joke’ was an answer to the question from a Filipino fisherman who asked Duterte during the 2016 presidential campaign if he would stand up for his right to make a living. A question asked by someone who comes from one of the poorest sector of society in the Philippines
WATCH: Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte says his campaign promise to ride a jetski in the West Philippine Sea to plant a Filipino flag in the Spratlys was a joke.
“If you believe it, I would say that you are really stupid.”
Kagawad Raul Batolinao has been rescuing trapped residents in Barangka since 2am. When I approached him-“Mam Sorry po,sira na ang mask ko.” S’ya pa ang nag sorry.I gave him my spare one. Si Kagawad, walang tulog, walang pahinga.

Palaban talaga ang mga Batangueño....
Me to a male resident: “Kumusta kayo dito Sir?”
Male resident: “Mam... Wala na kaming mainom na tubig dito kaya lambanog na lang tinira namin.”
Alright! Mind you 9am pa lang ❤️
“ Sinira ng martial law ang buhay namin. Gusto naming pagbayaran ng mga Marcos ang ginawa nila sa amin. Kung hindi sana pinatay ang mga magulang namin dapat sana nakatapos man Lang kami ng pag-aaral.” -survivors of Manili massacre.

I clung to a rafter of a seaside hotel in Palo for hours until that roof was blown away. I saw the water rise like a wall before hitting us. I held on even as the building swayed, and people cried, "Buligi kami, buligi kami."
Hidilyn Diaz will be receiving P10M pesos and an Olympic Gold Medal of Valor to be issued by the PSC.
It was signed into law by the late President Benigno Aquino III.

when asked about her West Philippine Sea shirt….
“ "Yung atin, atin (What's ours is ours) ... As ordinary people na walang masyadong alam sa international dispute o kaya politics, gusto ko lang sabihin ko sa kanila…Na sa atin ang West Philippine Sea."
Journalists can't simply sit quietly and watch while a colleague is insulted and attacked at a presscon. That is ritual degradation. Stand up to bullies and put them in their place.
Elmer Cordero may not be released today.Accd to police, court records show he has a pending case of estafa. But his lawyers say no one is able to confirm as of this time whether it is the same Elmer Cordero. But police refuses to release him- even on humanitarian grounds. He is 72.
“In at least two campaign sorties which Marcos attended without Duterte, we got it on good authority that PSG members were deployed to secure Marcos, which is not allowed by PSG rules…..”
Andaming let’s be friends, respect my opinion posts. Ano ba ito, essay writing contest? So hanggang ganito lang? Hindi dapat.

Retired Justice Antonio Carpio says police cant enter a private property without warrant...”That is in the Constitution and that is inviolable. No EO can change that. If they have to enter a private residence or bldg and they are refused, they can’t barge in. “
Philippine Justice Secretary once said in an interview that he was in favour of death penalty for illicit drugs.
Now his own son has been caught allegedly with more than a million peso worth of illegal substance.
Will this incident change his stand?
Latest update: Lola Anastasia is now reunited with her daughter Violeta. Napakasaya nila. Nasa Butuan na sila.
To those who shared my posts, to the people of Mindanao To those who reached out and offered help… specially those from Butuan…. Maraming maraming salamat ❤️
Just to clarify. A military grade laser was used by China against the Philippine Coast Guards.
The laser is a weapon, the act in itself may be classified as offensive.
I repeat - Ni laser ang PCGs.
Reporting live on Al Jazeera. The son of the late dictator claims he can provide a unifying leadership if he wins the presidency. But former Senator Marcos did not even win the 2016 run for the vice presidency.
When asked how he would like to be remembered….
He said.. all he ever wanted was to be remembered as someone who was given the honour to serve the people… and he gave his best.
Rest In Peace President Aquino.
Salamat po. 🙏
Met a young protester here. Filipina? he asked me.
He started singing.... “Bayang Magiliw... Perlas Ng Silanganan...”
How did you know Lupang Hinirang?
Protester: It’s the very first song I learned from my Nanny!

Angelica is questioning why electrical power in Alcala was not disconnected early enough. Her father died of electrocution while saving their neighbors using his own boat.
Hustisya! (Justice!) She wants justice. He will be buried this morning in Alcala.
Vietnamese journalists tracked down their fishermen who rescued the 22 Filipinos at sea. The Vietnamese fishermen story is consistent with the account of those from San Jose. So how come the Philippine gov’t wouldn’t believe them? Via

In a video, Pres Duterte was seen meeting Pharmally execs together with a Chinese national Michael Yang.

It doesn’t matter who their parents or what their status in life is like.... ALL children deserve to be treated with dignity and respect- even in death.
I saw her less than two weeks ago....So reposting my photo with the glamorous “security threat”.

Yes Mam.

This is the village of Kantagnos. Once a thriving community, now reduced to rubble.

I remember and grieve.
Not just 44 🇵🇭But all 67 of them. 67 Filipinos died during the Mamasapano clash.
Moro lives were lost that day too…Including a child who was shot dead by stray bullets in her sleep.
My report on Al Jazeera.
Taal volcano is steeped in folklore and history. Here in the town of Alitagtag, these residents are performing the Subli. They say at a time of such great uncertainty, this ritual dance serves as a powerful form of prayer.
Jacinda Ardern stepped down as leader of New Zealand. She exemplified a different kind of governance, one that excelled in public service and rose above the constant misogyny and bullying.
Best of all, she understands when it is time to go.
Bibili ng baril?” she asked.
I stood a few meters away from President Aquino’s entourage yesterday. As the chopper dropped confettis and showered the mourners, there was a lump on my throat and a heaviness on my chest.
8 years ago, 58 people were murdered by a paramilitary group believed to be linked to a powerful political clan in Maguindanao. 32 of them were journalists. They were shot point blank then buried with a backhoe. Their families still demand justice. Culture of impunity continues
On Al Jazeera. People here tell us his funeral was a fitting farewell to a once reluctant president who soon came into his own and served his country well.
His ashes…. Buried not at the heroes’ cemetery but alongside his parents, as he wished.
A 10 year old boy brought in for questioning by police for staying past the 10pm curfew. One police officer said “Tingnan mo wala kang tsinelas alam mong bawal yan.”
Taal Volcano, from another angle.
I was with NDRRMC executives, military officials and PHIVOLCS experts on a military chopper.
This was an OFFICIAL trip and Al Jazeera was invited to film it.
My report airs later.
“Nung una, ‘nanlaban’ ang sinasabi. Pangalawa, ‘sinubukan tumakbo.’ Ano ba talaga? Lahat ng kapitbahay, sinasabi na napalibutan na ninyo 'yung bahay nila, at ni isang kapitbahay walang nagsabi na nagpaputok sila,” Topacio said.
A Gov official takes public transpo and it becomes a news spectacle.Again, another circus. Why is media coverage often personality driven? Why do you take the narrative hook line and sinker lagi? In the end, who is really being “taken for a ride” here?
“Under Aquino, the Philippines achieved no small feat. Once dubbed the “Sick Man of Asia,” the economy grew 6.9 percent in the first three months of 2016 to surpass all major Asian nations, including China.
For days now, I have been reporting on a crash that killed my own friend. I am overwhelmed by sorrow but I have been doing my best to hold it together Mike and I are both covid survivors.I caught it in the field first. He caught it while serving as a frontline pandemic pilot.
When you opt for pedantry over compassion amid the loss of thousands dead civilians, when you favor intellectualism over humanity w/bombs still falling, and when the voices of armchair authors outweigh the suffering of your colleagues on the ground...how are you even a journalist?
I covered her up close as DSWD Sec. Typhoon Yolanda, Bohol earthquake, Zambo seige…. The tragedies seemed endless then..but she was in the thick of everything. Tired, and at times losing her voice but she plodded on. Always pleasant. Always present.
The Marcoses continue to claim their era was the best time for Filipinos. But there were journalists who were able to record how the Marcoses lived, and at what state the country was in when they were forced out of power in 1986. A copy of the CBS report.
Put that Maria Clara image you have of us in the backburner.
Ang Pilipina sa ngayon ay matapang, masigasig. Taas noo.
Lumalaban.
Very interesting. It doesn’t just happen in research but also in news documentaries. I slaved away producing one docu when I was a freelancer. The entire film was only made possible through my own contacts, access, translation, direction, editorial planning.
What is happening in 2022 when foreigners still can't include a Filipino as a co-author in their research work conducted in the Philippines with Filipino researchers? 😬

Another disappointing move by
@lamaveproject
--- a 4-part thread:
Journalism is NOT dead.
But journalists are dying.
They are being killed.
Despite this, many more continue to bear witness...they toil... despite repeated threats, harassment and intimidation.
