ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball is an unadulterated suckfest of horrible non-interesting dreck—the network has zero understanding of its audience and it’s embarrassing we have to sit through such horrendous garbage just to watch a fucking baseball game.
Red Sox American League offensive ranks through 30 games:
1st in doubles
2nd in hits
2nd in HRs
2nd in AVG
2nd in SLG
3rd in runs
3rd in OBP
3rd in walks
3rd in OPS
All with no Story and little Duvall.
But they do have this guy.
Earlier today, Jarren Duran posted an Instagram story indicating he’s struggling with his mental health.
It was brave of Duran to speak openly with
@ChrisCotillo
last year about his struggles.
As Red Sox fans, let’s do all we can to show our support for Duran.
For the rest of my life, I will never forget Nathan Eovaldi—who had already had Tommy John surgery twice—putting his career on the line to save the
#RedSox
bullpen in one of the longest WS games in history.
Thanks for it all, Nate.
I’ll reiterate exactly what I’ve said for weeks.
By all accounts, Chaim Bloom did exactly what was asked of him by FSG.
He rebuilt the farm, did their dirty work and kept the team from being abjectly terrible.
For them to do him like this is a deep disgrace.
Dave O’Brien not doing Red Sox fans any service by saying Triston Casas is “hitting .178 and needs to get it going.”
He’s hitting .256/.365/.488/.854 in May and is hitting the absolute shit out of the ball consistently. Would be nice if fans heard that context.
A reminder that if Triston Casas wins AL ROY the Red Sox will get a compensation pick after the 1st round of the 2024 draft. This year the Mariners had the 29th pick for Rodriguez winning in 2022.
People can save their jokes and snarky comments about Chris Sale.
The dude worked his ass off to get back out there on the mound. He not only made it back, he was really performing. And this happens. It’s legit crushing.
I don’t know how to feel anything but terrible right now.
Red Sox offered Eovaldi a QO plus the best multi-year offer he got all winter. His camp decided to shop around. Sox took care of other business. When a better offer never materialized Eovaldi went back to the Sox but they’d already made their moves. Eovaldi took less from TEX.
Are we allowed to say we think the Red Sox could have a good, fun, watchable team this year? Is that OK?
Or is even a whiff of positivity going to be met with scorn and ridicule?
Connor Wong in 2023
85th percentile Pop Time
79th percentile Sprint Speed
75th percentile Avg Exit Velo
4th in Catcher’s CS Above Average
T-3rd in AL in CS
4th in AL in Defensive bWAR
101 OPS+, 102 wRC+
He’s the Red Sox catcher. Period.
Yes, Triston Casas must get better on defense. I have little doubt he’s going to get there eventually.
But we’re seeing an elite power hitter with an exceptional batting eye. We’re talking Top 15% of all power hitters in MLB. He’s already special.
Red Sox made Eovaldi the best guaranteed offer he got all winter. He didn't take it, Red Sox were under no obligation to wait around for him, and they didn't.
Acting like the Red Sox picked Kluber instead of Eovaldi is disingenuous. But, whatever gets engagement I guess.
#RedSox
chief of B.O. Chaim Bloom signed this walking BP session ( Kluber ) to a one year 10 million dollar contract w an option for a second at 11 mm ... Nate Eovaldi signed for 2 years at 16 per plus a 2025 option that has a 2mm buy out Right now Nasty Nate is 5-2 w 2.83 ERA
The Boston Red Sox have an elite offense, one of the best in baseball.
The national expectation of the team must be recalibrated.
Regardless of the state of the pitching staff, this team is a postseason contender and everyone (including members of the fanbase) has to accept it.
The Red Sox are on the verge of going 7-3 since they got swept in Tampa. Of the three they lost, two were winnable games.
Again - it’s ok to point out the flaws in this team. But if you’re calling them terrible, or a bottom-feeder, or downright bad…you’re not actually watching
Six weeks left in the regular season. 8 teams in the AL have a realistic shot at the postseason. Red Sox are one of them. A clear core for the team has developed, and the farm system has taken a step forward.
Anyone who says this season is a failure is pushing an agenda.
Rafaela will never hit for a high average, or OBP, nor will he ever walk.
But if he can run into 20-25 HRs a year, swipe some bags and play elite defense he will be easily worth his contract.
I’m thrilled at what Ceddanne Rafaela is doing at Worcester.
He just got there. If the Red Sox call him up to MLB now, he’ll strike out 35% of the time and you’d run the risk of ruining him as a prospect.
He’s not ready. Let him cook. Maybe he can help in 2024 at some point.
I could be alone, but I’m looking forward to Alex Verdugo in 2023.
He’s been challenged by his team to be better. He’s got a ton to prove. I think he can handle RF if he’s in better shape.
Has a knack for the big hit. Posts everyday. Let’s see it, Dugie.

@Sean_McAdam
on the rumblings connecting Shohei Ohtani to the Red Sox:
“According to a source, at a preliminary planning meeting for the Red Sox offseason, held last month, Ohtani was not at all a focus.
Meanwhile, another source noted that principal owner John Henry remains
Good luck to John Henry, Tom Werner, Sam Kennedy and Mike Gordon in their search to find any worthwhile executive who wants to work for such erratic and clearly shitty bosses.
It’s amazing to read the replies to this and discover how many Boston Red Sox fans hate the Boston Red Sox and seem to be mad when they have any modicum of success.
#RedSox
fans: “Last season sucked! The team’s gotta be better!”
Also
#RedSox
fans: “I’m so sad they aren’t bringing back so many of the guys responsible for said sucky season!”
This should at least prove one thing to people.
If you think Rafael Devers’ defensive struggles are because he doesn’t care, you don’t know a fucking thing about Rafael Devers.
Say what you want about Chris Sale and his buzzard’s luck, as Eck would say.
This was 14 months ago. Not 5 or 10 years ago. Just over a year ago.
We know who Sale is, and who he’s always wanted to be. No one wants to get back to this more than him.
Make no mistake: The Yamamoto bidding will be an ownership-level decision. If the Red Sox aren’t willing to meet his price, that’s on FSG. I’m fearful a John Henry ownership will not commit $300M to a pitcher. Hope I’m wrong.
If the
#RedSox
make no moves between now and opening day and this is the team they have, by all means be upset.
Fortunately for me I have both a calendar and a functioning brain and know that’s not going to happen.
If the Sea Dogs get Mayer back soon they can run this lineup out there:
C: Kyle Teel
1B: Blaze Jordan
2B: Nick Yorke
3B: Chase Meidroth
SS: Marcelo Mayer
LF: Corey Rosier
CF: Roman Anthony
RF: Philip Sikes
DH: Nathan Hickey
McDonough, Lugo, Binelas + others on the bench.
WTF.
.
@SoxProspects
guys made a projected lineup for the Spring Breakout game on their new pod.
C - Teel
1B - Jordan
2B - Yorke
SS - Mayer
3B - Meidroth
LF - Castro
CF - Anthony
RF - Bleis
DH - Hickey
Wow.
Enmanuel Valdez will have a place on any big league roster for a long time the way he hits righty pitching.
What a find—and honestly, I think Abreu is a better player.
Triston Casas last 5 games:
5-for-17, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 2 BB, 4 R, 4 K. .308 BABIP indicates his luck is turning around, it was .152 before that.
Riding an 18-game on-base streak. He’s drawn a walk in 13 of those 18 games.
Just like his approach at the plate, let’s be patient.
With Kavadas getting promoted to Worcester, this should be Chad Epperson's infield most days for Portland:
1B: Blaze Jordan
2B: Nick Yorke
SS: Marcelo Mayer
3B: Chase Meidroth
Pretty solid crew, I'd say.
At a certain point Alex Cora has to shoulder blame for the absolute fundamental trainwreck this team has been since the end of the 2021 ALCS. His defenders can no longer blame Chaim Bloom or Carlos Febles. This team feels not ready to play game to game.
Baseball America has begun rolling out updated org Top 30 prospect rankings. Here is their new Red Sox Top 10:
1. Mayer
2. Bleis
3. Yorke
4. Anthony 👀
5. Rafaela
6. Romero
7. Drohan
8. Walter
9. Paulino
10. Perales
Here’s where I’m at with the Red Sox undefeated thing:
Spring wins and losses don’t matter. However, fact they’re winning means they’re playing good baseball. Guys took their off-season work seriously. They’re ready to play and perform.
It’s silly to say THAT doesn’t matter.
I’m with Lou, I genuinely don’t get why people are leaving Pivetta out of a potential rotation. These was his 2nd half: 3.30 ERA, 3.28 FIP, .196 BAA and a 102:19 K:BB ratio in 73.2 innings
If Pivetta were a free agent this winter he’d be getting $15M-$18M per year.
Pivetta is a lock for me. For some reason people don’t realize what he became once he started throwing his Slider. He Bello and Giolito are in for me. All 3 give you innings. Crawford/Houck still in mix but they need another innings guy.
In case anyone needs to hear it:
Nick Pivetta turned into an innings eater who got huge playoff outs in ‘21.
In that trade the Phillies got two relievers who gave up 23 ERs in 22.1 IP and then left.
#RedSox
get a massive W in that deal regardless of how Seabold turned out.
@LouMerloni
Lou they still over paid for him, they could have gotten him for quite a bit less. They out bid themselves. He is having a really good first half. Just remember Michael Chavis people had him going to Cooperstown. Let’s slow our roll.
Considering how Weissert is effectively a Schreiber clone, and he’s nasty, and the Sox still have a TON of righty reliever depth…I would say the people who complained about dealing Schreiber for an actual pitching prospect should reconsider that opinion.
Red Sox need to acquire a legitimate starting 2B either now or this winter for 2024 and possibly beyond for the sole reason of removing the pressure to call up Marcelo Mayer anytime before 2025. He’s 20 years old and needs more time to develop against advanced pitching.
It’s becoming increasingly hard to justify playing Duvall over Duran, especially against righties. Duran has been much better in CF and brings so much to the table on offense.
He’s earned the lion’s share of the playing time.
This is a pretty outstanding outcome for the Red Sox at 14. They took the best player available, got the best player at their position in the draft and a consensus top 10 talent, addressed a position of need, and got them to sign for underslot. You can’t ask for much more.
1st-rder Kyle Teel signs w/
@RedSox
for $4 million (pick 14 value = $4,663,100).
@UVABaseball
C, consensus best catcher in
@MLBDraft
, monster .407/.465/.655 year, very athletic for position, strong arm.
If you want Brayan Bello to be your ace at some point you have to give him an opportunity to face elite competition a third time through the order.
Enough of the kid gloves stuff. I’m glad Cora left him in.
You can’t manage a game in May like it’s a game in October.
#RedSox
gave extensions to Bogaerts and Vazquez. They offered Betts a $300M guarantee and he turned it down. While the Devers situation is a travesty spanning multiple regimes, the idea the Sox don’t “respect homegrown talent” is a media narrative intended to make people mad.
For those who haven’t been following:
Shane Drohan was Red Sox 5th rounder in 2020 out of FSU. Added bulk to his frame, 2-3 mph on his fastball and a new cutter for 2023.
His slider and changeup are both nasty.
1.32 ERA, 36 K, 9 BB in 34 innings.
(🎥: me, last month)
What I will always remember about Tim Wakefield is his humility and selflessness. How he took giving up one of the biggest HRs in team history with grace and accountability. How he gave up his '04 ALCS start to save the bullpen. How he always took on any role he was asked.
In 2008, Manny slapped Youkilis in the dugout, shoved a respected team employee over tickets, openly complained about his contract, pulled himself from the lineup over a fake knee injury and drove the manager up a wall constantly.
I hope this answers the question.
Red Sox should be trying to acquire Mitch Keller. Lotta attention given to Dylan Cease, but they’re the same age, will be both free agents after 2025. Keller, however, has been trending in the right direction unlike Cease. Go get Keller, sign Yamamoto this winter. Then, cook.
Bello's stuff wasn't dominant tonight but better than it's looked in a while.
I sense some impatience in the fanbase with him. A starting pitcher at 24 in his first full MLB season is rarely a finished product. He's shown a lot. The best is yet to come.
I'd like to see the Red Sox acquire starting pitching help at some point this year if they're contending for a playoff spot closer to the deadline.
But, the Sox absolutely, positively, should not under any circumstances go over the 1st CBT line this year. Can't do it.
Whether Red Sox fans like it or not, ownership has bought into a strategy where the next Red Sox winner is going to be built through the farm system, targeted trades, short-term FAs and the occasional big splash.
But this winter is when one or more of those splashes must happen.
Casas almost hit the 2-0 fastball but just missed it. He was right on it, but fouled it back.
Scherzer, in a fit of arrogance, threw him the EXACT SAME PITCH and Casas made him pay.
The kid is special.
Anonymous quotes in ESPN on Yoshida deal in Dec.:
"Overpay for me ... too rich imo"
"I have no idea."
"We thought he was worth less than half [that]."
"I have no words."
I wonder if they still don't have any words.
Chris Martin is having the best non-COVID season of his career.
38.1 IP
1.41 ERA
34 Ks
7 BBs
Savant percentiles:
100th in average exit velo and chase rate
99th in barrel%
94th in HardHit%
93rd in BB%
He’s allowed 1 earned run since 6/9. A godsend for your Boston Red Sox.
Cardi B scouting report:
Lefty with 70 command and good arm-side ride on her four-seamer. Pitches with fire and an intimidating presence. Often makes money moves.
I know a lot of fans vehemently disagree, and he hasn’t been perfect, but this feels like Alex Cora’s best year as Red Sox manager since 2018. More often than not he’s pushed the right buttons. I’ve been critical of him to be sure, but he’s been a value-add overall.
The Dodgers and Rays have used 36 pitchers this year. The Braves and Rangers have used 29. Barraclough will be the 32nd for the Red Sox this year when he gets into a game. I don’t get why this is a big deal.
I’m gonna focus on SP here. Red Sox could have 4/5th of their rotation very cheap. But there’s no ace in the system coming right now.
The timing is perfect to throw huge $ at a starter. Yamamoto is the guy. He’s going to be 25, no draft compensation plus BFF w/Masa. Gotta do it.

You can either complain about the lack of potential starting pitching prospects in the Red Sox system or you can complain about trading from MLB reliever depth to address that lack of starter prospects. You can’t do both.
I’m really sick of this app.
I feel like this is the most unpopular opinion on Red Sox Twitter right now but Jesus Luzardo does not feel like the right pitcher to give up your most prized prospects.
Health issues in the past and had a 91 ERA+ before 2023. Would also rather someone with more years of control
Ask yourselves seriously: would you rather be the Red Sox, at 40-39 in an obvious bridge year when you're trying to get to the next great team, or one of these teams who went for it all this season and have about the same or worse record?
The Mets, Padres and Phillies are first, third and fourth in MLB team payroll and have a combined winning percentage of .483, a record of 112-120. Worth noting the Phillies have a winning record, but barely. Only a matter of time before owners use this as an excuse to not spend.
The price is going to be very high. There will be stiff competition.
We know the Red Sox have scouted him extensively and that Masataka Yoshida knows him well.
It would register as a massive disappointment if the Red Sox weren’t all in on Yamamoto this winter.
HUGE MOMENT FOR YA BOY: With the arrival of 1959 Topps

Eddie Miksis, I've completed my first vintage baseball set build! It happened pretty quickly but I had so much fun these last few months doing this. A total dream as a longtime fan of vintage baseball cards + history.
Honest question: why would anyone want this job if you know for a fact ownership will get sick of you and get rid of you before the end of your first contract like the last 3 guys?
Chaim Bloom’s job security was a topic on
@NameRedactedPod
today, and here’s what
@Jared_Carrabis
had to say:
“I started poking around, asking people; ‘Hey, do you think Chaim makes it out of November?’, and I didn’t get a single ‘yes.’”
The Red Sox, I believe, are doing David Hamilton a massive disservice by running him out at shortstop in big league games. He just can’t handle the position. Stop trying to force it.
Can someone point me to a column or a quote that actually indicates members of the Red Sox clubhouse are upset about the trade deadline, or is this just another media narrative made up from whole cloth? I saw one quote from Kenley that struck me as more motivated than upset.
The Red Sox are well-positioned to do the same thing the Rangers have done. They’ve stocked the farm system and young players will contribute. Go out and identify the players to take you to the next level, and get them. Ownership needs to step up with the money.
Red Sox lost today because Brayan Bello pitched poorly for the first time in a long time.
Offense scored 5 runs and took advantage of some A’s mistakes. Bullpen was nails and kept them in it.
There’s not some grand statement here about the team or the season. Go get ‘em Friday.
David Hamilton's throwing arm from SS has been a big question all year. In a couple games, his max arm strength from SS has been 87.8 mph. Compare to other Red Sox this year:
Chang: 80.5
Reyes: 82.5
Arroyo: 83.9
Hernandez has averaged 85.1 from SS, max of 93.7 likely from CF.
Annual reminder:
People shouldn’t take the lack of public chatter around the Red Sox to mean they aren’t doing anything.
Bloom runs a very tight ship and a very small inner circle is involved in decision-making.
Likely won’t find out about stuff until right before it happens.
Feels like there are two groups of Red Sox fans right now:
Those who want the team to win every game so they can get in the playoffs, where anything can happen.
Or…
Those who thought the team would suck and want them to fail so they can be right about it.
I can’t believe people spent money and drove all the way out to Springfield to boo the owner and not let the chief baseball officer even get his words out.
Many
#RedSox
fans are whiny, entitled snowflake assclowns. I’m sick of it.
Go root for the Reds or Pirates.
