62 min HM, 2:11 Mara winner of Berlin,Miami,Manchester, marathons 4th Venice 7th London 10th New York marathons ps also 2nd @ Berlin&Miami (carbon plate free)
It's safe to say you won't see many modern-day athletes copying the training schedule of
@j_ashworth656
but it certainly made him one thing, hard.
Jimmy tells us about getting dropped with Bingley, stepping up to the marathon and chasing Steve Jones.
There should be no place for Trans Women in Women's Sport nor in Women's Spaces
I would not want my wife,my daughter or my granddaughter to go through this
In 2012 I started running again because I wanted to lose weight plus also I wanted to run under 60 minutes for 10 mile,so in 2014 I ran 59:30 for 10 mile aged 57 so here I am doing hill reps in Wales.
This as just popped up on FB.
38 year ago 😮 I took the lead at 5 mile & just ran solo until the end but 2:15 on my own no pace makers that is a bloody good run i have to say 👍
Happy birthday to Joyce Smith here she is setting the UK record aged 44 in 1982.If your serious about your running this is a great target to aim for set by a
#legend
and a lovely lady
Hey cycling/running folk, I know you're busy trying to smash a Strava segment, and don't want gel making your pockets sticky, but FFS don't just sling the sachets. These 5 were on just a short section of the Lune cycle path in Lancaster. 🤬
This 60 minute 10 mile is a great target. When I took up running again at 55 that was my aim it took 2 years to go from not running for over 22 years to going sub 60 minutes for 10 mile
#BerlinMarathon
tomorrow it is also my 47th wedding anniversary in 1983 it was my 7th wedding anniversary in which I finished 2nd in
#BerlinMarathon
to Karl Lismont ps 2 years later I won the thing

Life's great
Just shifting some stuff I've not seen this for 20 plus years this is my trophy for finishing 2nd in the Berlin Marathon 1983,of course the winner got a gold one 😁
After 3 years of treatment for breast cancer this arrived this morning. But first positive feedback with the words "no sign of cancer"So a happy Mrs Ashworth (Sallie) plus very happy Mr Ashworth.
Just retweeting this picture just finished my radiotherapy & this is how I feel fxxxxd as I was in this race, this was my hardest marathon I think I ran 2:23 but the time was & is irrelevant the thing is I finished
So now I can plan on getting well 👍
What a beautiful morning ground frozen so no mud about so clean dog's 😁 This is the best I've felt since I started this cancer battle 7 months ago 👊 Just started my radiotherapy which finishes end of January.
Well chemo started today with an injection plus taking some pills & the threat of losing what hair is left on my head, but on the plus side I'll only need a cloth to shine it up 😁 happy days
Zane Robertson a 2:08 marathon runner needs EPO uses EPO I wonder how much EPO sub 2:05 marathon runners need/use.
Elite sport is corrupt and fueled by PED plus of course only on TUE
It's my birthday today a friend posted this on Facebook.
Even though I had finished 2nd in Berlin (2:14:01) I was still classed as not good enough for an elite start 😁😁😁
marathon training as started there is no secret recipe so
Don't get tied up with buzz word's
Get a long run in TOF every week
Train to your plan, have a plan
Pencil in a rest day if you need it
Pencil in a down week if you need it
Consistency is the key
#marathon
#training
for those who are planning spring
#marathons
use these next few months wisely get out get some running done build you're base so when you start your plan you just might be ready to start training and not think "shit"
I saw something on Twitter about standards in the marathon and depth & dinosaurs
#LondonMarathon
this is the mid 80s now I am sure you will agree there is some depth here.
Well it's my birthday today so a bottle of whiskey from the local distillery & my favorite tea of steak, onion's, chips, peas plus mushrooms with a beer to wash it all down
#LondonMarathon
big respect and round of applause for last year's winner Shura Kitata he ran solo for 24 mile and still ran 2:05/06 on a bad day that is some performance 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I pinched this from FB (Shel Cowels) who finished 2nd it was from the Barnsley half marathon
My diary says "set off easy by 2 mile I was alone ran hard up to 10 mile then relaxed until the finish"
1st in 64:48 won the Yorkshire & Northen championship as well.
@Cathal_Dennehy
I won Berlin in 2:11:43 (1985) I never thought I would see a woman get that close it really is an out of the "world" performance literally "out of this world"
I'm reposting this it seems to have got lost.
40 years ago I came 2nd in the
#Berlin
Marathon to the legend that is Karl Lismont.I had blagged my way into the race saying I would break the course record 😁 I did.
Always liked this photo turning out for my club but the day before this I did a 12k session & only 5 days after running 63:09 for the half in the same race Steve Jones ran a Worlds best 61:18. That's how to over train 😁
The month before this I had run 49 mins for 10 mile at the Feriby 10,after being stuck in a rut hitting 50 minute 10 milers for about 3 years I got two on the bounce this race I led from gun to tape 👊
Taking a few weeks off Twitter now with it being Christmas and New Year so I want wish those I follow and follow me a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
See next year 👍 take care all of you
My next door neighbour as taken up running I saw him at xmas I gave him a couple of bits of advice.Saw him again today he is buzzing @ the w/end he ran his first half marathon in training,he thanked me for it 👍
This was also tucked inside the shoes a race report from 1984 London marathon.I sneaked into the elite start no special place to warm up or leave my clothes, just a club runner who made his way down to London

When you come in from work don't sit down don't stop get ready, get out.
Run easy first few miles you will come round from work and then you're ready to go 👍
I thought I would share this,my last before Houston marathon which was dnf due to my feet being cut to ribbons for some odd reason. But if you read this report it mentions the race comes at the end of 140 mile week 😁
This is my first
#marathon
I ran after starting running 18 months ago.
I think it showed potential but it would be another 4 years before I got to grips with it.
Won this 39 years ago today gun to tape I had a abscess on my tooth but just before the off my it burst.
The course is a tough one and can be cold on the tops I had run the course faster in 1982 but only got 2nd that year, this was a Yorkshire title for me 👍
#Ashtraining
1 x athlete runs a solo marathon in 2:39 (over 45)
Faster than his marathons he ran last year,& only 5 mins down on his pb from 10 years ago It seemed such a waste not to use his training he had done for the last few months.
If you've raced at the weekend just gone you don't have to do a session tonight rest & recover,if you did a marathon two weeks ago why are you doing a session tonight the best marathon runner in world he takes a month off think about that
#TourdeFrance
150 riders racing together for 3 weeks 5 hrs at a time in very close approximate also at times very close to joe public.

This got me thinking about the xcountry season just saying 👍
Well that's it end of part 2 I really just wanted to show runners that you can go from zero running wise to a 2:15 marathon and beyond.
At the time I ran this it was only 6 minutes off the world record I thought it was impressive solo win by 7 minutes
I was going to take a selfie but when I turned the camera around and saw myself it scared 😮 me to death so I thought this was the best option So after yesterday's operation to have part of my prostate removed I'm laid here chilling 👍
#Ashtraining
got a lovely text message tonight from one of the lads I coach.I don't charge for any coaching or advice I give, but this all I need for payment this.
#Ashtraining
Chester Marathon my man gets 3rd in his AG (45) with a solid 2:40 as well as being the oldest athlete on the elite list which made him smile.
One more athlete to go at Chicago then that's that
#ManchesterMarathon

Just realized 40 years ago I got my first England vest & in the process ran a PB in the marathon (2:29) this caused me to have one more go & at this marathon winter training i increased the miles from 120 to maxing out @ 160 😁
This photo is just to show that mileage doesn't dead the legs this is me running 20:16 for 4:4 course after a ten mile training run in the morning.Which isn't a shabby pace
I have posted this before but it's just appeared on FB again, this was my first time under 50 minutes for 10 mile Ferriby Hull 1983
@Lydiardsboys
No speed work involved just simple but hard 12 weeks of conditioning as described by
#Lydaird

Regardless of Kenya and their fine doping record ever since Nike opened Pandora's box with the shoes. We have the Ring Master Seb Coe all smiles the sport as become a circus just one big bloody joke
I've been looking for this for a while I wanted to post last year

never mind here I am standing next to Karl Lismont the legend who of course won the race back in 1983
Marathon training as started going by the tweets.👇👇👇👇
Listen to your body and how it reacts to the training
Don't get caught in the "grey area"
Recovery means recovery
The body doesn't understand miles it understands "Stress"
I see the YouTube marathon runner's failed again, this time
@Marathon_Mcr
I've said it before just because big marathon sessions are the in thing it doesn't mean it's for everyone you're training must be able to support you're workouts & benefit you
Just want to wish everybody who follows me on Twitter a Merry Christmas & happy New year.
But for now a sabbatical until next year.More so with the farce at
#Valencia
today now is a good time to have a rest.
For those athletes I coach & no doubt most athletes Monday is easy day this morning one athlete ran 2 minutes a mile slower than his half pace.
Remember Easy days are Easy keep it Easy
what a week my wifes friend died,my sons friend whom he had been friends with since school and also my daughter's boyfriend for a while he died and now my cousin as just passed away
Remember you are only on this earth a short time so get out and enjoy it
Many years ago I got invited to a British marathon squad get together come Sunday morning we all went for our long run not one athlete took a drink with them or need to stop and buy one the time was spent chatting and clipping along nothing special
Just been looking for an old running result and I found this .Its from the
#Berlinmarathon
1983 in which I got second but the winner was
#legend
Karl Lismont
Years and years ago when I ran I just ran I never bothered about the weather I just put down in my training diary a bit windy or heavy rain,or snow or frozen no big deal it's seems very alien to me this moaning about the weather.
