Today is the 40th anniversary of Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska. The lyrics on this album are among his very best. Characters on the fringes of society. Raw, unsettling narratives. Bleak but also beautiful, this is the record I return to most. Here's my take on the title track.

This week I recorded a version of the Tom Waits song No One Knows I’m Gone. As with a lot of Tom's work, it’s incredibly beautiful, haunting and mysterious all at once. I’ve changed the structure and instrumentation a bit. Hope I did it justice!

The man opposite me on the train is eating quinoa. I am a simple person and this word confuses me. I tried to use my phone to find out how to pronounce it and it basically screamed “QUINOA!!!” to the whole carriage as my volume is on 100. Now he’s staring at me. 😬

Great piece here on Carol King. She’s an amazing songwriter. It’s right what James Taylor said about some songs seeming like they have “always existed”. The great writers have this ability to just pluck songs from the ether. She’s one of the very best.
