i find the evergreen debate on what SQL is good for and what Python is good for surprisingly... boring? I increasingly feel like these are just arguments for the sake of argument and we all know the answers already! (like trailing commas 😉) So I wrote them down: 🧵

@gunnarmorling Notebooks are tools for "literate programming": a way of coding that mixes code, explanation, and outputs together in a way that's meant to be more interpretable by humans. It's really just a different way of thinking about a script that's tailored towards iteration &

4. Data workflows tend to start in SQL and end in Python/R. You start in SQL because that's where the data is. Often, you finish in SQL— remember, it's usually good enough! But sometimes, you need to carve sculptures:

Some @_hex_tech trivia: The UX of almost every Hex feature can be traced back to our first blog post, "Long Live Code". It lays out this "low floor, high ceiling" ethos: make it easier to write creative, powerful code, instead of hiding code away entirely.

As a longtime Looker user, I feel the need to take a shot across the bows *with love* at the old 5,000 row limit as we release this feature. Being able to rapidly chart data of any size truly makes Hex a platform for working with data of arbitrary scale.
@_hex_tech
Hex
2 years
Oh, and by the way... we've removed the 5,000 row limit for charts. Hex chart cells now perform server-side aggregation to let you plot data at effectively infinite scale without worrying about row limits or data size. 📈 Here's an example using a 900,000 row dataset:
