@cjosei @BBSimons The reason why there's a critique is because the plan was bound to fail even before it started. In developing systems like transactions, one rule means 1 path. 2 rules means more interactions that rise through a geometric progression and more permutations in outcomes.

Imagine being a Ghanaian worker earning 20,000 GHC. per month which is in like the top 3% of formal pay in Ghana and being refused a visa because your monthly pay is $1200 which is barely a round trip ticket to US and therefore you are deemed a travel risk. Sad.

Total Capex for Ministry of Environment, science, technology and innovation in Ghana for 2023 is less than 1 million GHC. For the next 2 years or so, total projected CAPEX is less than 5 million. Total projected for the national cathedral in same period amounts to over GHC160M

@baobab_psc Because our cedi can't be trusted as a baseline. Even when we budget stuff for our own economy, we use USD. Also, to compare our purchasing power, you would realise that a service you paid for in January costs the same in usd but has increased by at least 30% in cedis. Get it?

The price per bag of cocoa in Ghana is 50% less than in Ivory Coast n 80% less than Togo. It is also 37% of average world price. Saying its an achievement to the ¢450/bag in 2016 is a lie. That price in 2016 was 57% of the international price then. It shd have been 20% more

Today, we mostly use subscription services. Netflix - $8 Apple Music - $6.5 Office 365 - $6.5 Apart from local foods, almost everything is imported. Duties are priced in usd. U r importing USD inflation n adding to GH inflation. Times have changed cos our cedi has tanked.

To be in the economic middle class requires a lot more. In Ghana, avareage rural household spending is 2,300 approx for a household of 5. Rural life is far cheaper than city life. Rural needs and bills are also far cheaper. Cost of commuting, rent, food is cheap.

The 2024 budget allocated just shy of GHC3m ($192,000) on R&D exclusive of payroll. The figure has been similar for previous years in USD. That is just above the price of a Land Cruiser in Ghana. That's how much Ghana values homegrown, govt led innovation.
