Friends in the US are still receiving physical cards for vaccines. And here we are getting digital certificates delivered to us minutes after the process. At our size of population!
Tweets about “instead of buying a house / car, I could have bought the stock and made 10x more” are dangerous.
Money exists to fulfil goals, not win a race of returns. Life is a balance of saving and spending. Stock returns don’t match the smiles from owning your own home!
I am calling for an end to airlines and makers of boxed food who serve two pieces of bread stuffed with cheese and coleslaw (veg sandwich) in the name of breakfast.
This is India not the West. We have amazing breakfast food from across the country - parantha, idlis, dhoklas,

. India isn’t short of inspiring stories and examples, in any field, from business to diplomacy. It is time we embrace them and share them. And when we respect what is ours, the world will too.
I tell this story in every session I do with women. Getting opportunities is about asking for them. This little boy asked, while the ladies who stood BEFORE him in the line didn’t.
You career is in your hands. Do justice to yourself by asking!
I am too small a person to slam anyone, let alone an icon like NRN who has built an industry that is the pride of the nation.
A completely misleading headline that is totally unrelated to what I said. Request that you change this

In all my years living in the West, holiday season was long and extended. Christmas time off started after the 15th of December and continued through the New Year. In China, Chinese New Year has a long holiday.
Unfortunately in India, Diwali holidays are usually 1 or 2 days
“It is unthinkable that someone can beat a Kenyan at this game”, says the commentator. And after 28 years,

did. 🥈
This video gave me goosebumps. Avinash, you inspire us to jump the hurdles, break barriers and fly.

There is a reason diplomats are called ambassadors for their countries. Eloquence and power, can come without raising your voice and with dignity and class. And India produces some of the world’s finest.

The word “settle” should be banned from our dictionaries for many reasons, from settle down to settle for bronze. You don’t settle for bronze, you work bloody hard to earn it. It means you’re in the Top 3 in the world!
Perfect businesses exist on Excel.
Perfect lives exist on Instagram.
Perfect portfolios exist on Twitter.
The real world has mistakes, ugliness, heartaches, assumptions gone wrong, gigantic failures, and yes, loss.
Benchmark wisely.

, what is the logic for fining someone for not wearing a mask in a personal vehicle? You are travelling with people you share a house with.
My nani, who turns 80 today was the 1st working woman of the family.
When Dad was posted to NY, she told Mom, “Yes, have fun, see NY, but make something of it. Do your Masters.” Mom owes her career to this advice.
Women who have strong grandmothers and mothers are blessed.
This is a road in the middle of a jungle in Wayanad, Kerela. And this road quality has been the rule not the exception on my trip, and on many other road trips across the South.
A far cry from the roads we see in Mumbai, our commercial capital.
One of my first bosses insisted on taking a pen and paper into every meeting. He always took keen notes, even if there wasn’t anything obvious to write.
When I asked him why he said, “Always make people feel they are being heard. It is magic. It is easy. And few do it.”
Don’t criminalise a business for making profits, when it is doing a great job for India. Capital investments don’t come out of thin air. By the way even the film industry celebrates box office collections and profits!
After saying that you were making profit even at 150/vaccine, we will now be asked to pay the most of any country for it. Please explain why
@SerumInstIndia
I know an India where my father could be born in a village, study in Hindi medium, join the IFS and represent his country abroad. Where his daughter could get the best education in the world, have conviction to return home and also be accepted. I will not “lose hope in India.”
Can UPSC scores then be used like SAT/GMAT/IIT entrance ones for entry into other institutions or domains? Those who miss civil services by a slim margin can perhaps have very good places to go, after putting in years of effort and work.
Every year lakhs of students appear for UPSC. Only a few hundred make it. Rest spend most productive years trying for the dream.
Later, lakhs of these bright people struggle to find alternative career. Gets difficult due to age & orientation. A huge waste of national resources.
This silk saree was the first saree that my father bought for my mother.
In 1982. For 360 rupees.
40 years later, it is still going strong.

Did the fundamentals of companies change in 2 days? No.
Lesson: Watch markets less
One day someone is going to reject you and you will feel it’s the end of the world. And a few years later, you will realise it’s the best thing that happened to you.
If you can subscribe to an OTT platform or order food online, you can start an SIP too.
A lot of work to be done so that our industry climbs the ranks in this list.
This is an appreciation post!
I had a bad fall and subsequent head injury last Sunday. Had to be rushed for emergency medical care and then treatment. Despite it being a Sunday morning, I managed to get an ambulance, excellent care, tests, and stitches within a few hours
On a day when both parents have to work, and there is no help, guess who comes to work?
Often asked how are you going to make a mom and CEOs life work. Well, a little planning, a lot of patience and a problem solving attitude make things work. And a baby’s laugh does the rest.
Seen many movies in India on the corporate / finance word: Corporate. Bazaar. Big Bull. Common themes: greed and ruthlessness
Not a single one inspires a young person to build a corporate career.
Why can’t someone tell one of the many stories of Indian entrepreneurship?
I started as an investment professional and never met a client for the first 4 years of my career. Running a start up forced me to. Raising even a small amount of money takes skill, credibility, marketing, and huge effort.
Selling is an amazing education, a must do!
One thing to learn from European culture is how much they enjoy their holidays and guard their personal space from office.
There is nothing macho about working on holidays and it does not make anyone a better professional.
Be balanced, lean back, and spend time with family.
A Japanese client told me that when you disrespect timelines, you disrespect the person you are working with and your own word.
Deadlines that are meant to be broken are dead before they start.
Traveling from US to India in the 90s, carried for family here...
- Electronics (with right voltage!)
- Tang drinking powder
- Chocolates
- Clothes
Now when family comes from US to India, we ask for...

How India has changed!
Who says you have to run a start up to build a business with a sense of ownership, passion, and insanity? Employees do it too!
Ownership is a state of mind, not employment.
A local brand serving a much better coffee product than many international chains. One more example of both the increasing demand for premium products and the ability to locally meet it.
I see a number of posts about investment income being greater than CTC. This is short term and cyclical.
Your best asset and most rewarding investment as a young person is your talent. Not a financial instrument.
Make that a 100-bagger.
I called Dad for his birthday today.
He said he is busy the whole day coaching prospective IAS students, then is on TV to discuss Afghanistan, followed by dinner with his char-yaars. At 69, he reminds me that hard work doesn’t stop and life just gets more fulfilling with age!
A few hours before I turned 40, I was standing in front of the iconic BSE building waiting for my car. As I waited over the next 10 minutes, a number of folks many years younger than me, came up to take selfies. Not the first time, but something about this moment filled me
Every week, at least one 22-28 year old girl reaches out and does a call with me, about how she wants to become a CEO one day. She asks for help, advice and stays in touch.
I didn’t have the wisdom or courage to reach out at that age. So inspiring to see this in today’s girls!
This video has shown up on my timeline countless times.
In an Insta world of exaggerating what we have, she carries who she is with such confidence and contentment… and that’s what is so endearing.
Radiating joy. Inspiring. ❤️
The new Cadbury ad isn’t just a tribute to the Indian woman who is hitting it out of the park. It’s a salute to the Indian man who stands by her when she’s playing her biggest match, and dances wildly for her when she wins.
I’m luckily married to one of those.

Between offices and homes, many Indian women have been working many more than seventy hour weeks to build India (through our work) and the next generation of Indians (our children). For years and decades. With a smile, and without a demand for overtime.
Funnily, no one has

This 1 minute activity that can be done today saves week and months of heartache for someone years later.
Great firms and leaders handle employee exits with extreme class and dignity. They celebrate exits. Employees then became alumni, ambassadors and future clients of the firm.
Exits are inevitable. People will join and quit. Make your last impression on someone count!
Financial assets are not regulated by the IMAI. I don’t know what the right size of the investor base and industry is, but if it is indeed 6 lakh crore, we need real regulation and we need it quickly.
A family friend received a random portfolio of stocks in 1997, in physical certificates. Went abroad and in the busyness of life forgot about it.

In the late 90s when India did the Pokhran tests, I remember actual taunts from Western classmates at the American school I went to. Nothing has changed 20 years later.
India chose to stand up for its interests then, and India chooses to do the best for itself now.
A long way to go on how successful women in corporate India are depicted in films and OTT content. Most stories re-iterate the stereotype of making compromises, being ruthless and having dysfunctional lives at home. This needs to change: ambitious doesn’t mean abnormal!
Dear Investor,
Bad days happen and they feel like the end of the world. But 3-5 years later, you barely remember them, and laugh at why they were a big deal.
Market corrections are like that too. Today’s big event is usually small in the long term. Zoom out.

I am obsessed with the potential of a Indian tourism and have always wondered why we have to pay so much to go Maldives when we have Lakshadweep and Andaman.
The answer is 1) infrastructure and 2) marketing. The PM’s recent visit has put the spotlight on these destinations.
Loved this Olympics. We cheered for wrestling, hockey, javelin, boxing, golf, badminton and more. Our hearts swelled with joy sometimes and broke a few times, but nearly each day gave us something to hope for.
And we say Sayonara, having earned not just medals, but new icons.
Do you take singing advice from Sachin Tendulkar? Medical advice from Lata Mangeshkar? Legal counsel from Madhuri Dixit?
Apply the same to personal finance now. Who the advice comes from matters!
