BHM day 7-9 is all about my process.
If you don’t know I use ocean, lake, and river water from places with Black historical and personal connection in my paintings. I collect the water and mix it with my paint/ink.
Twitter is really opening up this conversation about how cruel black people were done at the hands of racist! To the cannibalism, to the rape, to the stealing/harboring of body parts, to the using skin as leather, all of it! THIS WAS NOT A LONG TIME AGO EITHER!
“Holding Fast to Dreams”
6ftx6ft on canvas
—acrylic, oil, ink, charcoal, African Mahogany, sand, water from: Coast of Senegal, lower Manhattan docks, Lake Michigan, Milwaukee River, Pacific Ocean.
Aye I don’t talk a lot about finances because some of y’all steal lol 😂 but everything I tell y’all about making moves in art is real. I just had two pieces sell for $102,000. And one of them was a print! Keep working and ask questions.
“If it hadn’t a-been so cold”-2020
Made from Ocean water and water from my hometown of Milwaukee, with water from Lake Michigan/Milwaukee River. Mixing fresh and Saltwater. Title from Langston Hughes Poem “Life is Fine”
“Celebration of the Black Alt”-2020
In my work I celebrate blackness and I want to make sure I represent all of our glory! So this is to the Black Alternative, Black Goth, Black Punk, and all aspects of it! More of these voices need to be represented.
