Michael Andrew, the highest profile unvaccinated American Olympian, refused to wear a mask in the mixed zone. Every other US swimmer I’ve seen all week has worn one.
*whispers* the reason women’s sports doesn’t draw as much as men is because everyone is taught that girls are sub-par human beings from the time they’re born so maybe instead of saying no one likes women’s sports, ask yourself how to change the way society values women & girls
Why did player x wait 10 years to report racist abuse?
Because that player probably knew their chances at playing pro hockey would be finished if they said anything.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk
K’Andre Miller should never have had to be in a locker room with Tony DeAngelo but the Rangers showed from day one that Miller’s comfort or safety wasn’t a priority.
for the all the people saying it wasn't a big deal, "it's just jerseys"
the nhl banned pride and other special initiative warm up jerseys, as well pride tape... they're literally taking steps backwards
The thing that makes USA-CAN Women’s hockey so great is that the teams are rivals, but the players are friends. They’re married to each other. They’ve played pros or college together. It’s such a small world and they are so interconnected.
The Big Ten said there was no indisputable evidence, meaning the accounts of a victim of a repeated racial slur and the referee who assessed a penalty for it on the spot were not sufficient evidence.
Do you realize how messed up that is? The message it sends? Truly disgusting.
The NHL has spoken out about Evander Kane gambling potentially on NHL games but has done nothing with the Blackhawks sexual abuse allegations or the Canadiens drafting a sex criminal.
Guess those things have nothing to do with “integrity."
The League was made aware this evening of a post on social media alleging that San Jose Sharks Player Evander Kane bet on NHL games. The integrity of our game is paramount and the League takes these allegations very seriously. (1/2)
It was Mailloux. It was Vanbiesbrouk. It’s Connelly. The NHL is just a redemption machine for people who have done racist, sexist, abusive and awful things.
Because people absolutely love women’s sports. But it’s a losing battle because everyone was taught that anything girls & women produce are not good enough and will never be the best. So, think about that
Hockey
Player gets arrested for a literal sex crime: “it was a mistake, give him a second chance”
Player is underage drinking: “he needs to be barred from the league!”
As a victim of a sexual crime I will tell you this will stay with the survivor for her whole life. Why does he get a second lease at playing in a professional league when she’s been violated in such a way?
Seravalli’s rhetoric is not acceptable.
Logan Mailloux is writing another chapter in his story tonight at Bell Centre.
Personal opinion: We're overeager as a society to throw away the key sometimes. Especially with 17-year-olds who make awful decisions.
Horrible choices. There is no minimizing that. He's paid a real
I don’t believe Mailloux deserves a second chance to play in the NHL bc what he did wasn’t a mistake, it was malicious and playing the NHL is a privilege, not a right. But even if you do believe he deserves a second chance, his PR stunt apology was not an apology to the victim
Trading for Ethan bear while you’re signing TDA is an excellent example of how you don’t support players of color, Carolina. What you’re doing was horrible and now it’s worse
John Vanbiesbrouck uses a racist slur to his player and gets a job at USA hockey
but Colin Kaepernick (and all the minorities) speaks out against oppression, racism, etc, and gets blocked from he sport he loves.
"If fans don’t like it, or the media doesn’t like it, or whatever... it is what it is."
Connor McDavid was asked about Evander Kane potentially joining the

I know we are honoring Ryan Miller’s career right now so I’d like to thank him for letting me interview him for the book and being a white NHL player who was willing to talk about racism & sexism and stuff. I think that’s important for young players who are afraid to speak to see
The Hurricanes distract from the Canadiens drafting Mailloux which has already distracted from the Blackhawks being sued for alleged sexual abuse cover up. And that’s how they get us. One thing folds over the other so that people forget.
‼️📖 I’m super excited to announce that
@evanFmoore
and I are in the process of writing an as-yet-untitled book about toxicity in hockey culture for
@TriumphBooks
.
In the Fall of 2021, buy our book.
A joint statement:
I really appreciate this being written. I moved back at 27 after I’d gotten laid off because just sever anxiety and PTSD and living in NYC where my current salary as a cashier wasn’t gonna cut it was just too much
The part about being able to opt-out makes me sad because I think people largely miss that point. This is the lives of PoC, WoC, LGBTQ+. We can’t “opt out.” That’s not an option. We’re fighting just to exist

"What I’m realizing is, no matter how passionately I commit to being an ally, and no matter how unwavering my support is for NBA and WNBA players of color….. I’m still in this conversation from the privileged perspective of opting in to it."
It’s 2019 and if you don’t believe hockey is racist it’s a big indication you aren’t a real hockey fan. Because if you were a real hockey fan, you’d be playing close enough attention to know that. thanks for coming to my ted talk
Many people in the hockey world have been asking me what they should do to educate themselves and fight racism, so I created a site compiled of educational resources and actionable steps for allies to take

@EdKrassen
@Firstmanagram
I get what you’re trying to do but a lot of people will only read or see the first part, so this is likely to spread misinformation
Yeah so when you’re adding filters and making your pictures look however you want them to look, it’s important to not, you know, make a black player look white. Thanks for coming to my ted talk!
in 2017 I was hired by a fashion magazine and two days after moving into my $1,100 a month Brooklyn apartment, they fired me for no reason.
I was lucky I was close to home so, when later I got laid off, I could move back home. But for someone moving cross country??
VILE
I can’t even describe how much I screamed when
@shreyaghoshal
said she was singing her final song and then said, “Let’s have a Manjulika time.”
She is a MASTER. (Also this is my fave song)
There are two options here, or a combination of the two. Either the NHL steps in has Tony DeAngelo educated and changes him, or he gets kicked out. I say the second because I don’t know if the first will happen.
This situation is pretty clear.
No one is born racist. They’re taught to be.
Here’s the father of
@NYRangers
Tony DeAngelo, a player suspended by the OHL twice for using slurs, saying he uses the same slurs his son used “Every day. Every day.”
I actually can’t believe this is real.
"Which of course means that on the flip side, I could just as easily opt out of it. Every day, I’m given that choice — I’m granted that privilege — based on the color of my skin."
St. John’s Nick Wakos placed a black handprint on his face to bring awareness to the missing & murdered Indigenous women in Canada. He wanted his peers to see his statement, so let’s make sure they do.
Tony DeAngelo has already had numerous chances in the past to rectify himself and his behavior and he did not. He has had the chances; he does not need another one.
US-Canada women’s gold medal hockey game on NBC averaged 3.54 million viewers. That’s more viewers than any NHL game this season. And second most watched hockey game in United States since 2019.
I would like to amend this tweet: I wrote “since the time they’re born,” which is really not inclusive at all. I just used it as a phrase like that, but would like to point out it should not have been used
Unwritten rules in sports are dumb because they apply to thins like “dont hit a grahd slam in this situation” and not like “DONT sexually assault people”
Kelly Babstock is publicly liking responses supporting P*tny’s video that Tinker should be jailed and she doesn’t even care that people are seeing this and her time in this league really should be up. It’s a privilege, not a right.
The fact that Peters directed his apology to the Flames and apologized to the origination and not the people he abused, like that pretty much tells you all you need to know about this whole situation
Hey i just want to thank
@JTBrown23
for speaking out against racism way back when in like 2017 and for never giving up the rfight, despite potential negative repercussions.
I point this all back to him
A group of high school coaches in Canton, Ohio, are on administrative leave after forcing a Hebrew Israelite player to eat pork as a punishment for missing practice
This is good news but I’d like to remind everyone that:
- actions were only taken because this went public
- if he was a “star,” this also probably wouldn’t have happened.
Britain was not just early in abolishing slavery. It poured blood and treasure into extirpating the foul trade internationally. Even at the height of its life-and-death struggle with Bonaparte, it was diverting warships to hunt down the Atlantic slavers.
