If England win tonight, then all four semi-finalists will have had the advantage of three home group games, while other countries had to travel across Europe well in advance of the knockout stages. Euro2020 finals not a fair competition of sporting merit
@UEFA
.
In the Vale of Glamorgan,
@Plaid_Cymru
doubled county council seats from 4 to 8, increased on Barry Town Council from 7 to 9 (winning in Illtyd ward for the first time) and took control of Dinas Powys Community Council, with 14 of 16 seats. Well done and thanks for your support👍
Welsh Twitter. Here are the Waterfront street-names the
@VOGCouncil
consulted upon in 2017. Nothing to do with Baron Penrhyn. Unfortunately a sign-writing error (the Y is missed out) makes Ffordd Penrhyn look like a name. I've asked the council to provide a corrected replacement.
Eastbrook by-election (Dinas Powys Community Council): Mike Hartrey (
@Plaid_Cymru
) 356 (64%), Conservatives 199 (36%). Mike retains the seat for Plaid previously held by his wife Val, who sadly passed away in the Spring. Well done, Mike. Llongyfarchiadau.
This is exactly what's wrong. England decides how much it needs - and then tells us what we get. It is never based on *our* assessment of what *we* need. They decide what they want, and give us some spare change pocket money.

Gwynfor Evans,
@Plaid_Cymru

in Barry in 1912. Barry now has a Plaid mayor, five Plaid county councillors (25% of town) and nine Plaid town councillors (40%), having recently won a by-election with 53% of the vote.

Having a debate about the value of lesser spoken languages is in itself anglo-centric and offensive. You don't get to choose what we speak.
Yesterday's most searched Google item in Argentina was 'torta galesa' ('Welsh cake', actually bara brith) after a primetime tv game show featured a question on the recipe.

In Wales next week, fans will be allowed to watch Swansea City live *outdoors* in a play-off match, but not
@BarryTownUnited
fans in their European play-off game. But Barry fans can watch it together on tv *indoors* in the clubhouse bar next to the ground. Sense check much?
Kyiv in the Ukraine is naming a street after Barry-born journalist Gareth Jones. This month will be 115 years since his birth in 1905 - and 85 since his death in 1935.
Gareth Jones was one of the first foreign correspondents to write about the Holodomor, a man-made famine in Soviet Ukraine that killed millions of people in 1932–1933.
Labour in the Vale of Glamorgan want to declare a 'nature emergency', alongside our 'climate emergency'. That's the same Labour whose councillors last week voted through a 45ha business park 'for the needs of the aerospace industry' on a greenfield site of a working family farm🤷♂️
For context, the first ever
@Plaid_Cymru
MP Gwynfor Evans used to ask about electrification in Wales. In the 1960s. That's how far behind our rail network is, thanks to decisions being made for us by a different country.
Wales has been woefully underfunded on rail investment, despite having 10% of the UK rail network.
Invest more = More services and higher speeds, increased passenger demand resulting in reduction in required publicly funded rail operating subsidies... leading to more investment.
I would not be surprised if the BBC flagship news programmes do more coverage of a US mid-term election than they would of all General Elections in every G20 and EU27 democracy put together (France, Germany, Italy, India, Canada, Japan, Korea, South Africa, etc)
Had some questions tonight about
@Plaid_Cymru
in Barry. We have 7 Barry Town Cllrs. 5 are from Barry, 1 from Cardiff and 1 from St Helens, Lancashire (our council group leader). We represent 4 of Barry's 8 council wards. We are the official opposition on Barry Town Council. 😎
Proud that after a full debate
@Barry_TC
have voted unanimously to call on Welsh Government to conduct further testing of Hinkley Point dredged mud, and for NRW to suspend the marine licence, and carry out a full Environmental Impact Assessment.

Sorry, missed it. I was in a Planning meeting where the Labour councillors voted to build a 45ha business park for the aerospace industry on a greenfield site and working family farm 🤷♂️

This is the Green Party's only member of the House of Lords, freely admitting she'd never heard of the leader of her party in Wales. With 'friends' like this, you can't really blame him for leaving the Greens and joining somewhere his input would be valued, like

I'm interested to see how long this
@BBCSportWales
tweet stays up, unedited, given
@ThatsDevolved
, so is irrelevant to Wales ('the government', lol), and should have been obvious at first sight seeing as most of Wales doesn't even have seven tiers of football in its pyramid.
A bit of context: Welsh Tory leader Paul Davies was heading up a last minute canvass on Weds night and former leader Andrew RT Davies was there to get out the vote. They threw the kitchen sink at this by-election but
@Plaid_Cymru
held the seat with a hugely increased majority.
Eastbrook by-election (Dinas Powys Community Council): Mike Hartrey (

In 2009 then

Issues too political to discuss in public at Barry Town Council last night: Welsh independence. Issues not too political: climate emergency, Pride, billion pound business exploiting community copyright to make money. Quite a fine line between what is or not a political debate!

Many of the issues raised are devolved in Wales, which is run by a Labour Govt. Is it Labour that can't deliver these outcomes, in which case Wales needs a change of govt; or that they cannot deliver these outcomes whilst in the UK, in which case we need independence? Or both? ;)
If only the Government would spend “whatever it takes” on:
- ending foodbanks
- eliminating poverty
- decent homes for everyone
- outstanding schools and colleges for everyone
- social care
- genuine dignity and quality of life for all disabled people
- ending homelessness
Etc.

Committees and debates are the bread and butter of Parliamentary scrutiny. With these not taking place and a lack of spontaneity in virtual debates, it is right that Parliament returns in person next week.

At some point in a tournament, every country bar one hits the wall and gets knocked out. Last time

it was in the semi-finals, this time the last sixteen after facing every obstacle. Our legs weren't there today, but that's understandable after the last fortnight. Ymlaen!
On the same day, voters of the Vale of Glamorgan gave

8.6% of the Senedd constituency vote, 12.4% of the Senedd regional list and 16.5% for the Police and Crime Commissioner election. How weird are elections.🤷♂️

Amongst the feelings of revulsion I had on reading this story, what shocked me was the level of self-entitlement and narcissism that a man feels capable of deliberately sabotaging a rape trial and put his name forward to be selected for elected office only a few months later.
"You have managed, singlehandedly, and I have no doubt it was deliberate on your part, to sabotage this trial."
The words of a judge to a witness whose comments led a rape trial to collapse. That witness is the Tory party Assembly candidate for the Vale.
For generations, my family lived in Taff Street, Merthyr Vale after moving from County Cork in the mid-nineteenth century. The family are buried in Aberfan Cemetery on the other side of the river. I often feel the story of Irish-Welsh migration isn't told enough in our history.
