I want to personally thank every single voter who STOOD in line, sometimes for hours, to vote NO on Issue 1.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
This is how we build an Ohio we all deserve.
Let me be crystal clear: If Issue 1 passes, increasing the required county signatures from 44 to 88, it would utterly annihilate grassroots Ohio groups' ability to ever place amendments on the ballot again.
Vote NO on Issue 1.
Democracy will not die here in Ohio without a fight.
I’m proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with my democratic colleagues and hundreds of community organizations as we urge Ohioans to vote “NO” on SJR2, this August.
Join the movement: .
For me, the election for Issue 1 on August 8th comes down to a fundamental question:
Do you believe Ohioans have the capacity to make informed decisions about what is best for their families and communities?
By raising the threshold to 60% after 111 years, it suggests that they
Let’s keep it real.
If Issue 1 was about ALL Ohioans as my Republican colleagues are saying, why put it on an August 8th special election, ensuring a minimal turnout?
Because it is not about ALL Ohioans. It is a brazen power grab from the people they say it helps.
Vote NO.
I have to say it:
There was a time in the U.S. Constitution that people like me were considered 3/5ths of a person, so when I hear folks say they want to take our Ohio Constitution back to what our Founders intended, I simply ask:
Are you including me?
Vote NO on Issue 1.
Don’t just take it from me:
Here’s what Betty Montgomery, former Republican Ohio attorney general, said regarding on Issue 1:
"What’s happened here...it’s almost a conspiracy. When you combine the 88 counties, no cure period & an August election, it looks awfully much like it
I didn’t have it on my bingo card today that I would debate with one of my Republican colleagues the legitimacy of slavery in the Ohio Constitution.
Slavery has no part in Ohio’s constitution.

Today is the day.
For those voting NO on Issue 1 today, thank you for standing up for freedom.
Ohioans are not stupid. They know what’s best for their families and communities.
Together we’ll oppose this undemocratic, unpopular, and unfair issue.
…let’s go Ohio.
This upcoming Monday, June 13, Ohio’s new permitless carry will be law. That means ANYONE over 21 can carry a concealed weapon in public without training.
As I am out talking to neighbors, one of the moms I met ended the conversation by saying, “thank you for inspiring my son. He never met a Black elected official until today.”
It’s these moments that keep me going.
When I first walked into the Ohio Statehouse as a Legislative Service Commission Fellow in 2010, I could not have imagined I’d be walking back ten years later as State Representative.
Since day one, I’ve been committed to building a better
#Ohio
.
It is my understanding that
@AEPnews
has notified city leadership they WILL NOT compensate residents for spoiled food and other monetary claims due to the INTENTIONAL BLACKOUT.
This is unacceptable.
Today begins a new normal in Ohio.
Permit-less carry is now the law of the land. That means anyone over 21 can carry a concealed weapon in public without training.
Unfortunately, this will devastate our community, which is why we are asking our community for a cease fire.
Y’all, we are currently voting on over 35 bills—Arming teachers (👎🏾), Capital Budget (👍🏾), eliminating parts of the Third Grade Reading Guarantee (👍🏾), just to name a few.
Nonetheless, before it gets too late, I want to wish everyone the start of a beautiful

It’s Tuesday, and I’m still mad that the Ohio General Assembly passed a bill to inspect a child’s internal and external reproductive anatomy, if their sex is disputed.
I'm even more concerned about the residual trauma this will have on a child's life.
Student: “Mr. Rep—Can I be a State Representative?”

Me: [Looking away to not get emotional] “Yes you can. Can’t wait to see you serve our community.”

Proud to meet with members of
@MomsDemand
to thank them for their heroism, fighting for those impacted by gun violence, and calling for stricter gun laws.
I stand with you in this fight for a better Ohio.
At $8.80 per hour, a person working 40-hour in Ohio will make $352. After taxes, a person would take home less than $300 (around $270). In a month, $1080. After a year, $12960. The average rent for a 0-BR apartment in Columbus is $601.
This is not living.

It’s time…
#YesOnIssue1
Voting YES on Issue 1 restores the rights we’ve had for decades, and ensures that women and families can decide what's best for them—not the government.
I am a
@nanwhaley
fan and she is a fan of me.
Thank you for your endorsement and confidence in our race as we let neighbors know across House District 1 that they have a State Representative fighting on their behalf at the Statehouse.

There are over 12,000 families without power in North Linden, and I don't see a cooling center in that neighborhood. We only have one in South Linden, which is too far for some families.
With today’s excessive heat forecasted to reach 97 degrees today, we must address this.
Did you all know that Rep.
@EricaCCrawley
is the FIRST BLACK WOMAN ever to be the Ranking Member of the Ohio House Finance Committee?
I wanted to give her deserved flowers 🌹 for getting this massive multi-billion dollar budget over the finish line.

#Teamwork
My final stop of the day.
Thank you to
@nanwhaley
for having her team join me as we passed out water, popsicles, fans (the ones you get from church), and a little humor despite the heat.
We're going to get through this, Columbus. Together, we’ll work to

The first Black people born with “equal” rights under the law are less than 60 years old.
I repeat, 60 YEARS OLD.
But here we are talking about banning diversity training programs on college campuses across Ohio.
House Bill 183 targets transgender students, restricting access to their preferred restrooms. The reasons? "Assault" and "privacy."
These arguments echo the discriminatory language of the past.
I stand against this bill! It fuels discrimination and endangers transgender
Today is a great day to change law and policy so a person can claim an unborn child on their federal and state tax returns.
The policy now says it has to be documented as a “live birth”.
Do you see these youth?
I’m fighting to build a community that will keep them safe, nurture their gifts, and builds them up to be exceptional leaders for tomorrow.
Gun violence cut too many of their lives short. That’s why I’m fighting so hard—because they're our future.
…leadership is not easy.
But when you have people fighting alongside you who are equally committed to building an Ohio we all deserve—it makes everything you go through worth it.
It's official – I'm running for re-election as your State Representative for House District 1 and Central Committeemember for Ward 7.
It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve my constituents, and we still have more work to do as we build a better Ohio for all of us.

On Monday, June 13, Ohio’s new permitless carry law becomes law. That means ANYONE over 21 can carry a concealed weapon in public.
WITHOUT TRAINING.
This law is going to get more people killed.
Someone recently DM’ed me saying that voters won’t remember arming teachers in schools in November, let alone later this month.
They are wrong.
Can you retweet and follow to help us get to 5000 followers and share why YOU are AGAINST arming teachers in schools?
The Supreme Court just ruled that Border Patrol can enter any home without a warrant, within 100 miles of the border. Based on the ruling, you have zero federal protections.
Let me repeat that, ZERO.
The graph shows cities within the 100 mile range with minority population.

Issue 1 is on the ballot for Tuesday, August 8th.
Here’s a quick rundown of what you need to know regarding this special election:
1️⃣ Voter registration deadline is July 10th.
2️⃣ Absentee Voting by Mail and Early In-Person Voting begins on July 11th.
3️⃣ Be sure your
Reproductive health is a fundamental human right. That includes:
1️⃣ Access to legal and safe abortions
2️⃣ Access to cost-effective treatment for infertility (including IVF)
3️⃣ Recognize a person’s reproductive autonomy
4️⃣ Fund efforts to reduce maternal mortality and morbidity
It’s Monday and y’all know what that means:
The Early Vote Centers are open and it’s a great day to vote NO on Issue 1. Be sure to tell 10 people you know to do the same.
Let’s go!
The Senate just confirmed my public servant, former boss, and friend,
@SteveDettelbach
, as the nation’s
@ATFHQ
director, overseeing the enforcement of gun laws. Huge win as we fight to reduce gun trafficking and the supply of firearms in our communities.
Issue 1 is regarded as undemocratic, unpopular, and unfair. As I mentioned before, it's important to recognize that Ohioans are well-informed and capable of deciding what is in the best interest of themselves and their families.
Vote NO on Issue 1.
I’m running for re-election in the “Beautiful” House District 1, which includes Bexley, Downtown, Franklinton, Berwick, South Side, and Bronzesville.
I’m committed to building a district and state where no one is unseen, unheard, or uninspired.

I'm excited to announce that I've been elected Second Vice-President of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus.

As a kid from the Hough neighborhood, I know first-hand the struggles many families navigate to get by. Cleveland needs a mayor who will take bold action and implement a vision that uplifts all of us.
That’s why I’m proud to endorse

Cleveland can’t wait.

Removing an industry's right to strike is a full-frontal

on trade unions and working people. HB 151 feels similar to SB 5—striping away workers' rights and dignity.
Today, we celebrate a milestone in Ohio with the enactment of the Reproductive Freedom Amendment. I’m proud to have joined the effort in our state to uphold the fundamental right to reproductive medical decisions.
...so far, I've lost 50 pounds.
However, addressing obesity isn't solely a matter of policy; it also involves challenging the stigma surrounding this chronic disease. It's not a personal failure or a lack of discipline or willpower.
Take a look at my editorial on obesity and
Here’s the simple truth—Black people who experienced

1. Dehumanized and sold as property.

HD25 needs a champion who wants to expand healthcare coverage, not end it. Who will increase minimum wage, not give tax cuts to the rich. Joe is a fighter, while the other tells crowds he’s for racial segregation in housing. The choice is clear —

Two years ago, I promised as a Representative that I would work with my colleagues to light Columbus blue to commemorate Somali Independence Day.
We delivered on that promise. Thank you
@SG_Hardin
and Columbus City Council for their support.
Happy Somali Independence Day! 🇸🇴
This “kid from Cleveland” sponsored a new law that significantly updated our Ohio Revised Code, modifying terms rooted in historical trauma, resulting in unnecessary harm for people with disabilities, their families, and advocacy organizations.
When I think about the history of Memorial Day, I go back to May 1865, shortly after the end of the Civil War, when Black people in Charleston, South Carolina, held the first Memorial Day, originally known as Decoration Day. (1/4)
I’m proud to welcome the first Somali restaurant to Easton Town Center, Fay’s Crepes.
This is a big deal.
We only have a few minority-owned businesses at Easton, so their success is dependent on our collective investment. That said, I hope
