The trend nowadays is listening to patients and googling symptoms on their phone because they’re absolutely clueless. The government isn’t great at supporting their work but it’ll be extremely disingenuous to not hold inept and dangerously unqualified doctors accountable.

People leave Ghana to work in Israeli farms. It may not be a popular destination for Ghanaian economic migrants but they’re there because their home country despite being resource rich is run by very greedy people who only think about the present.

Sign shady mineral extraction deals with foreign companies, depend on foreign aid, overburden the taxpayer, steal the loans and taxes and even go after scholarships they could use to alleviate or end generational poverty. This is beyond wickedness.

You’ll find our politicians looking up to developed countries for medical care when they’re ill but nothing pushes them to build world class facilities here. You just can’t reason with them. What’s so hard about making every modern medical innovation available in Ghana?

There’s a reason they don’t boast about how many lives they’ve saved; they rarely do and we all blame the easy target (the government). Many of them aren’t good at their jobs sadly. Found their way into medical school because how else can they get guaranteed jobs.

When you deep it, lots of these doctors and nurses play with the lives of patients just to fulfill a prestigious job ambition, elevate their social status and fit into a class. You can easily tell they don’t enjoy their work by how many avoidable deaths they supervise.

Many overate these doctors thanks to the massive PR around their “chew and pour” grades. Book-smart and nerdy but are they humane? That’s what you should be caring about most. Do they have improvising skills or they just moan endlessly about lacking tools until you die?

Is this a perfect thread? No. I could use better data to make my point but the fact remains we need above average healthcare professionals to complement the poor resources they work with. Personally think they need 2 extra years of training to become the finished product.

Good thing about this tweet is, it has attracted a lot of party fanatics who are emotionally attached to politicians. They’re more interested in defending the track record of their favorite politician than accepting the fact that we overpay for public projects.

If your sole motivation is to live a rich comfortable life while enjoying the prestige that comes with it, the worst place to do that is a hospital. There’s nothing more important than saving lives there. Square-peg-in-round-hole doctors are a major cause of avoidable deaths.

There are a few (disturbingly few) doctors going above and beyond in Ghana. I don’t want to turn this into an “all doctors are terrible” discussion. The ones that went to medical school for the right reasons, the passion to save lives and love for humanity are doing great.
