🚨🚨 Time to dust off the personal news klaxon 🚨🚨 Very excited to be joining the fantastic
@TimesMoney
team in September as Deputy Money Editor. Moving an entire flight of stairs down from The Sun, so hoping not to lose any important snacks in transit
In other job announcements, I've officially started at The Times/Sunday Times now. Seems like a pretty quiet time to start a new job, no major money news in the calendar..
🥳🎉 Personal news party popper! (More joyful than a klaxon, right?) 🎉🥳 I’m going to be joining
@taraevans
and the amazing consumer team at
@TheSun
as deputy editor from mid-September. Day one task: get Mrs Crunch’s autograph
📢Personal finance freelancers of the world! 📢 A friendly reminder that we are always looking for pitches for fantastic stories for The Times and Sunday Times money pages. Do get in touch with the best of your best ideas: holly.mead[at]
Ok, can everyone all just stop making Woodford-related announcements now please. How about one of those nice press releases about how ditching a daily coffee purchase will ensure I can buy a private island inside two years?
Daphne insisting the trophy is at least 50% hers given that she’s pictured in the column every week… I’ve already talked her down from an 80/20 split, the diva
@Headlinemoney_
Budget Day is a bit like Christmas in that all normal rules about what time is acceptable to start devouring chocolate/sugar go out the window. Not many other similarities to be fair though.
Huge shout out and thank you to the couple of PRs I've spoken to this week who, when I called, wrote down what I said rather than just say 'Can you put than in an email'.
I'm so excited for when the oil price falls again and all the petrol retailers immediately and proportionately pass that saving straight on to motorists
Asked a burger restaurant if they do gluten-free buns and I love the response: "We don't have gluten-free buns I'm afraid but, you are more than welcome to bring a bun with you that we can pop your burger in."
Why is an email confirmation and ID not enough proof for me to pick up my
@Tesco
food order? Heading back with deeds to house, national insurance card and full family tree in the hope that this will be enough for the man to release my food
1/2 Today is my last day working with the absolute legend that is
@jimconey
and the fabulous ST Money team, who I know will miss my highbrow chat including: "beers I've known and loved" and "what have you got for breakfast?"
I know I look pretty young for my age but yesterday I got asked if I needed a parent or guardian to sign the form when I signed up for a library card 🤦🏼♀️
I’ll never cease to be amazed at what people will chat on the phone about on a packed train. Bloke is telling someone the forensics came back positive and there was a breach of bail. Intriguing!
Just a reminder to
#PRs
that we're always looking for interesting/funny/worthy household names to interview for Sunday Times' Fame & Fortune, so do email me with any clients who may suit. Note: it's not for the shy, they'll need to be candid about their finances
#journorequest
PRs, can you not put "RISHI ANNOUNCEMENT" as your subject line if you're sending over a press release about something entirely unrelated - it does not increase your chances of coverage
Idea- badges that say: "I swear I bought 3 poppies this year but they've all fallen off cos let's face it, it's poorly designed & I just end up being stabbed by my own coat when they're attached anyway, but that's why I'm not wearing one so please don't judge me, I donated loads"
Super excited about our new video series where you get to see me looking like a wally as I try to explain horrible investment jargon using just a whiteboard, some pens and a lot of arm gestures
Something a bit different on the site today. James Henderson let me follow him around for the day AND we were allowed to film it. Note to self: next time choose a fund manager who's not so tall
Thank you for all the pitches after my tweet (is it still a tweet?) last week. Am starting to go through them now and will be in touch if your idea is of interest. For now, here are some notes on pitches in case helpful for future 🧵
Auto-enrolment is FANTASTIC but I do think it lulls us into a false sense of security that we’re doing enough for retirement, when the reality is that most of us probably aren’t
It was past bedtime for our team of young experts, so I had to speak to the winners at the Morningstar Fund Manager of the Year Awards last night instead
Why is it that companies now make it IMPOSSIBLE for you to contact them by phone when you have a problem? Tell me, who do you think are the worst offenders?
Millions of people are chronically undersaving for retirement. Today we launch our Plug the Pension Gaps campaign, urging the government to take action 👇
Me to cold-caller: Can you take me off your calling list please?
Him: NO! Never. Never ever ever, Where's the benefit in that for me?
Can't help but kind of admire his honesty.
That feeling of trepidation and resignation when you wear box fresh trainers out of the house for the first time. There must be some wonderful German word for it.
I’m a freelance journalist, you might know me from my greatest hits: “no I don’t sit in my pyjamas all day”, “sorry I’m not around to collect your parcel” and “no I won’t write it for free”
Hi, I'm a journalist, you might know me from my greatest hits: "yes, I've seen your press release", "no that isn't one for us I'm afraid", and "no we are not changing the headline"
These are the things that National Insurance Contributions help to pay for. Call me crazy, but I'm not sure we're in the position to be cutting the budget for these things...
While I really appreciate all the "Halloween money saving tips" emails, I tend to just stick with my own tip for this *very important* holiday: I don't celebrate it because I'm a grown adult 🎃🎃
Just for those men who didn’t get the memo: slowly curb crawling alongside a woman while she’s running, shouting at her to go faster? Not acceptable. I was running a 7:20 mile in 25 degrees anyway, what more do you want from me??
The pension lifetime allowance doesn’t penalise the wealthy, it punishes those who have saved hard and invested well. Don’t bring it back. Column this week 👇
A friendly reminder to PRs and agents out there that we're always looking for suggestions for our fantastic Fame & Fortune interview each week. Do get in touch if you have any clients who fancy a fun chat about all things money

This is outrageous. The most unprofessional bit of PR I have ever seen.
Since when has making public private press enquiries been acceptable? Reflects very badly on
