WE DID THAT.
Financial Feminist is a New York Times bestseller.
This is a huge accomplishment; an accomplishment I’ve dreamed of ever since I decided to write this book. But it’s not just my accomplishment — it’s all of ours. So here’s to us.
Bubble baths and face masks are not self-care.
They’re self-soothers.
Self-care is the hard shit that makes you a better person.
Therapy. Working out. Meal prepping. Productive conversations. Checking your bank account.
That’s real self-care.
As a woman, the only life events society celebrates are when I become engaged, married, or pregnant.
What about traveling solo, getting a Masters, paying off debt, buying a home, writing a book, founding a company, getting sober?
I want these celebrated too.
Last year, a company asked me to speak at their virtual summit. I asked for $8K, and never heard back.
Today, my assistant and I got flown first class for me to speak for that same company for $40K.
If a recruiter asks, "what are your salary requirements?", here's your response:
"It's hard to know how to accurately price myself at this point in the process, but I'd love to know your budget."
This question is used to get you for as cheap as possible.
I've coached thousands of women on how to negotiate their salaries and ask for raises over the past few years.
Last year alone, I helped them get over $175,000 extra in salary and benefits.
Here's what I've learned. /thread
Why are lattes and manicures and purses considered "frivolous spending" but season tickets and power tools and golf lessons aren't?
Misogyny. That's why.
I SIGNED A BOOK DEAL WITH HARPER COLLINS!!!!!
When I was 7, I made a list of things I wanted to do in life. “Writing a book” was first. Never did I think that I would not only be fulfilling that dream, but that one of the biggest publishers in the world would want to support it.
This year, I did $650,000 in revenue; hit over 900,000 followers on social media; was featured in Forbes, TIME, the New York Times, and People; and it's my first year as a full-time business owner.
I want you to know it's possible. Go get it in 2021.
"There's no women-hosted business podcasts that are successful."
"Women don't care about personal finance."
"Feminism is a cancer."
"Dave Ramsey is untouchable. Good luck with that!"
I love proving people wrong.
I've never paid for PR. I've never paid for ads.
No outside investment, no venture capital. I own 100% of
@herfirst100K
We're a multi-million dollar company; with 12 employees, a top business podcast, a book deal w/ Harper Collins, and over 3M followers.
I'm so fucking proud.
Update: I offered my Personal Finance 101 workshop for free to any Black woman that messaged me.
I got 5,000 messages. 😮
72 hours later, we had given away $500,000 (over half a million!!) worth of workshop slots.
So proud of this community.
DAVE RAMSEY RUNS A CULT THAT USES CHRISTIANITY AND SHAME TO SELL HIS PRODUCTS HE HAS FIRED PEOPLE FOR BEING PREGNANT BUT UNMARRIED HE REQUIRES YOU DISCLOSE YOUR PERSONAL FINANCES TO WORK FOR HIM HE DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE SYSTEMIC OPPRESSION HE IS THE DIET PILL OF PERSONAL FINANCE
I did it. I saved $100,000 at age 25.
At 25 years, 2 months, and 6 days old — after 4 years of work, grind, and automated savings — I successfully completed my goal 9 months early.
I turned, looked him dead in the eye, and said, "the next time you see me will be in the New York Times."
So today, pour one out for my ex, who just spat out his morning coffee reading the news.
Every time I post about investing, I get comments saying "I can't afford $200/$350/$500 a month!"
Ok. Then start with $50. The point is that you START.
It’s May 17, 2019. My boyfriend (who I didn’t know was cheating) dumps me.
He asks as I’m leaving, if he can see me again. I tell him that the next time he’ll see me, is in a feature in the New York Times in 2 years.
I have 3 months to keep my “fuck you.” Can anyone help?
Sitting in the airport lounge in Minneapolis, taking a work call, when the women next to me asks, "What does your company do? You speak with such power, and I was curious."
Nicest compliment a stranger has ever given me.
A company asked me to speak at their virtual summit. I asked for $8K, and never heard back. A year later, my assistant and I got flown first class for me to speak for that same company for $40K.
A reminder that yesterday's price is not today's price.

Want to retire early?
Multiple your annual expenses by 25, that's your financial independence number.
You either need to 1) increase your investments, and/or 2) decrease your annual expenses to cut your working time.
I just turned 28 years old on Sunday. And I'm a multi-millionaire, with a global company and podcast that changes women's lives every day.
Yet all I see on money websites is "30-year-old tech dude becomes a millionaire yayyyyy."
My DMs are open, y'all.😅
There is going to be a ton of posts soon that say "you only have 60 days left in 2020."
They'll talk about how you need to be doing more.
If you have kept yourself healthy and have helped keep others healthy as well, congrats! You've done your job.
My greatest piece of advice to every young women? 🤔
Do. Things. Alone.
Does it get lonely sometimes? Absolutely.
Has it also been the biggest thing that has built my confidence? Yes.
If you’re shocked by Dave Ramsey hosting a Christmas party with no masks — and now you’re saying something like, “This makes me rethink following him” — I need you to investigate deeper.
This is one of many examples where he refuses to acknowledge systemic oppression + safety.
just called my dad and told him we have the number one business podcast in the country.
"you're even beating Monkey Planet?!" he asked incredulously
he meant Planet Money.
yes, dad, we're beating monkey planet.
I love when someone comments on my video, "you have a $250K saved but live in THAT shitty apartment?"
first off, I love my apartment. and second, how do you think I saved $250K...
I've gone from making $80K a year at my corporate job to making $80K in a week in my business.
This flexibility and power is the feeling I want for every woman.
3 years ago, I went through a breakup. He called me after almost 6 months, told me that he needed to end things, and 2 hours later, our relationship was over.
As I left his apartment for the last time, he asked me, "I'd love to remain friends. When can I see you next?"
Money affirmations:
- I’m financially stable.
- I can always make more money.
- I manage my money, it doesn’t manage me.
- I can handle a financial setback.
- I’m the master of my money.
- I live in abundance, not scarcity.
If you're a man committed to feminism and equal rights for women, the easiest thing you can do is tell female co-workers your salary.
Want to take it a step further? If you discover they're paid less, advocate for them.
Something I don't talk about enough: the best part about having money is how my confidence has skyrocketed.
I don't depend on a man for money (or for anything else.) I can buy a friend dinner without thinking twice. I can leave toxic situations the moment they turn sour.
I’m not sure why, but lately people have been calling Her First $100K a “project” when talking about or introducing me.
It’s not a project. It’s a multi-million dollar media company and a global movement.
Trump just said to women, "we're getting your husbands back to work."
Over 860,000 women left the workforce last month.
57% of women work.
40% of households have women breadwinners.
You're despicable.
“Someone else is already doing it.”
Nope. They’re not. Your approach, experiences, outlook, and voice is what makes you unique.
Stop letting that hold you back from starting.
I'm 27 years old and I can retire today. Never work again. Ever.
I'm financially free, and my entire life's mission is to help women have the same freedom.
Did your employees keep making you money from their dining room tables for the last 18 months? They did?
Then you can’t fucking make them come back into the office.
I'm financially independent, could retire *literally right now* and I don't own a home. You don't have to be a homeowner just because someone told you it's the way to wealth.
I’ve starting a conversation about pay transparency for creators that is currently going viral.
I shared my rates for IG and TikTok — and encouraged others to do the same.
Thousands of people are sharing their pay, talking transparently about money, and increasing their rates.
Things like baths and face masks are not self care, they’re self-soothers.
Self care is the hard shit. Going to therapy, working out, checking your budget. It’s the shit that Present You does for Future You.
You shouldn't hate yourself for spending money on the things that bring you true JOY.
You just have to figure out what those are. That's values-based spending.
A week ago today, we had 880,000 followers on TikTok and 40,000 email subscribers.
Then, a video I posted on TikTok went viral, about the importance of investing for women.
Today, we have 1.1 million followers, a verified account, and over 90,000 email subscribers.
I currently have a video going viral on TikTok.
In less than 6 hours, I've gained 25,000 followers and had 15,000 email list sign-ups (and counting.)
I've gotten media requests for BuzzFeed and the News Australia.
TikTok is not a fad. It's absolutely changed my business.
This is why we NEED feminist millennials like myself and thousands of others talking about money.
We aren’t out of touch.
We’re not offering discriminatory advice.
WE ACTUALLY GET IT.
Women are better investors than men, but are left out of the conversation.
We're launching our investing app in 3 weeks, bringing stock market info + step-by-step advice to women in a non-judgmental environment.
Interested in chatting with tech + money writers!

I have the number 1 business podcast in the world — the only woman in the top 25.
I’m number 17 of all podcasts.
With just one episode released, we’re changing how the world gets financially educated.
Abortion is a financial issue. Having access to safe, legal abortions lessens poverty.
If you’re someone who believes in economic prosperity and growth — yet is anti-choice — you are a walking contradiction. And also a dick.
New challenge: every time you hear Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas is You" between now and Christmas, transfer $5/$10/$20 to savings.
Report back on December 25th 🤑🎄
The advice I would give new grads as a career coach: stop asking yourself, "what am I going to do with my life?" and instead ask yourself, "what do I want to do NEXT?"
No one knows the answer to the first question, and it's paralyzing. Lead with curiosity instead.
We had never produced a podcast before.
A $99 mic off Amazon. No outside funding.
When we launched in May 2021, there were no women-focused, women-hosted podcasts in the top 30 business shows.
Now, we're back in the top spot. The number one business podcast in the country.
this is fucking amazing. a reminder that your "loyalty" does not benefit you, ever. you have more negotiating power when you're applying than you ever will once you accept.
So I just put in my resignation letter…
I’m leaving my current company after less than 2 years to grow my skills & income.
My new offer was a total compensation of $362,000.
Fully remote. Unlimited PTO. 401k match. Great healthcare. New challenges I’m excited to conquer.
You cannot afford to not invest.
We’ve been told our entire lives that investing is a man’s world. That it’s only for the rich. That’s it’s only when you’re older.
When really — investing is our best way to increase our wealth and fight the patriarchy.
Let’s say I get off work at 5 pm in November. It’s already pitch dark.
If I were to walk or run outside, I take on a HUGE risk to my safety.
This is a tired take that has no understanding of anyone outside of a straight white male’s experience.
I've gained 70K followers on TikTok in less than 4 days.
To me, that confirms that Gen-Z is craving personal finance guidance and education. And we need to be ready to fill that need.
Recruiter: "We're happy to offer you $50K!"
Me: "Thank you so much, I'm so excited to start work! Based on my skills, experience, and market rate -- I'm looking for a range between $58-62K. What can we do to get there?"
In this house, we don’t tolerate:
— judgmental advice
— money guidance that doesn’t acknowledge systemic oppression
— profiting off self-hatred
— victim-blaming or poor-shaming
— math that literally doesn’t work
If you’re a reporter, I’d love to chat. There’s too many “straight white tech bro is financially independent at 30” stories and not enough “feminist financial educator who changes lives hits financial independence 3 years early”
Sometimes, it hits me: my business has periods (more and more frequently) where we make my old yearly corporate salary in a week.
I get paid to do what I love, change women's lives, and create jobs. Hell yes.
BIG NEWS: I am speaking at the UN!
The United Nations invited me to speak at their annual UN Commission on the Status of Women tomorrow.
In front of delegates, policymakers, and stakeholders -- I'll be discussing how to build a feminist economy to rally financial resilience.
October will be my first ever 7-figure month in my business.
No VC. No paid ads.
And at the end of this year, I release my debut book, which is already a bestseller in pre-order.
