A few reasons- wasn't trained in sculpture from the age of eight by my sculptor father. Did not have the patronage of the extravagantly wealthy Borghese family from a young age. Bernini was clearly absolutely exceptional but his circumstances were also very favourable
This is probably THE weirdest snake deformity I've ever seen. This guy is from a breeder in the Netherlands. He was dead inside the egg.
It gets me how everything looks perfect. The scales, and even the umbilical cord looks so normal.
But..... not

While he was in his 30's he also ordered a servant to take a razor and slash the face of a (married) lover of his after she had an affair with his brother. Anyway he was exonerated by the pope and she was jailed for adultery. Not trying to cancel Bernini but- context
By the way, the shop is back online with tons of new listings! Everything is also now available in the ivory or boxwood finishes! Come grab some critters
Something for spooky season! I made this model of
@mikefranchina_
's Mother of Beasts concept for a portfolio a year or two ago and finally got around to printing it! Hopefully I can find time to paint her this month
I painted my Asian Water Monitor (Varanus salvator) sculpture. I like to imagine the fish was stolen from an unsuspecting fisherman′s basket! 1/8 scale.
Ok diplocaulus and gharial models are finalised! Pose changes for diplo and a minor adjustments to the gharial pose and supports (now oriented so that none of the teeth require support). Working on uploading STLs, and will be painting soon!
Some science! Tadpoles of the scarlet-sided pobblebonk can survive in naturally acidic waters around the same pH as stomach acid - but how? Our research in

shows that environmental calcium and adaptations to calcium transport in the gills may play a role.

So glad you know about this! My favourite sculptor!! This is one of a series figures of saints adorning the ridiculously ornate tomb of the Duke of Clarence. The others are also incredible, super hard to find photos of all of them but here′s a few
SURPRISE! Dunkies are ready. I started work on this model well before the recent papers, so here we have the new "Chunkleosteus" and my original more conservative version (which as far as I can tell, is not ruled out at this point). Best of luck!
