Headline inflation is up but we need to look under the hood to understand what's really going on--used cares, new cars, auto parts, and car rentals accounted for 60% of month-over-month price increases. W/o cars and pandemic-related services, June's monthly inflation was 0.2%

Inflation as measured by CPI increased at a 5.4% rate year-over-year last month and 0.9% month-over-month. Core inflation—without food/energy—rose 4.5% year-over-year and 0.9% month-over-month. A large part of the increase is due to cars and pandemic-affected services. 1/

This bill tackles those energy costs in two key ways. First, it helps enhance U.S. energy security by investing in clean electricity generation here in the United States, with tax credits and rebates for renewable technologies like solar panels and wind turbines. 6/

Second, the bill also has provisions to lower costs for households to ease the transition to clean energy. For example, it includes a $10,000 direct consumer rebate that returns money to families when they buy heat pumps or other high-efficiency heating & cooling appliances. 8/

The Inflation Reduction Act would help families save money on key expenses. Take prescription drugs: Americans spend *more than* people in any other OECD country on pharmaceuticals including prescription drugs. 2/

Good news: The number of people filing for unemployment insurance has -- FINALLY -- dipped below its pre-pandemic peak. We shouldn't make too much out of any one-week data point, but after 52 weeks in a row of being above the previous record high, I'm happy this streak is broken!

And, for rooftop solar or more efficient windows, the legislation provides a 30% credit. Families that install rooftop solar would save $7,500 on the average system and see their electricity bills lowered by $9,000 over the life of the system. 10/

Today is Equal Pay Day, a day that represents how far into 2022 the average American woman has to work--ON TOP OF her work in 2021--to earn what the average man did in 2021. To recognize this day, we wanted to dig into what the pay gap is and where it comes from. 1/
