You don't need to pay money to get published. You don't need expensive editing or writing courses. There is no "dreaded slush pile". There are just a lot of submissions read democratically. Be wary of anyone who tells you to pay to skip the queue.

We don't reject your work because there aren't page numbers. We don't reject it because it's single spaced instead of double spaced. We don't reject your work based on what font you use. As long as you're presenting your work clearly and professionally, you're good 👍

Dreamed I got sent for an extra scan and they discovered the baby was a horse. When I queried how the midwife had previously overlooked this she said "you'd be surprised how often it happens."

Don't start your book with your character getting up in the morning. Don't start your book with your character describing their reflection in the mirror. Don't start your book by describing the weather. If you break these rules, do it well and with a bloody good reason.

My submissions email goes straight to me. I don't have an assistant filtering it. I'm not fobbing anyone off. It's the best way to send me a submission. Submissions that go to my main inbox are more likely to be mis-filed, lost or never read.
