Let's be really clear: the budget @JillianDURM , @Javiera4Durham , @LeoForDurham and Middleton voted for raises Durham firefighter pay by 7%. It also funds a pay study that's likely to increase them further, substantially. It does this without raising taxes at the very last minute.

@marls_canyon @johnpcarroll @samswey @NateSilver538 I teach all this to undergrads. Log-log scales are indeed hard to understand. They're linear when there's a power relation between two variables. "If you build it, they will come. The more people, the more crime." -resident at city council commenting on a project on 8250 Fayetteville Rd that has apartments...and a significant affordable housing portion. 🤔

@madirishfrog This is just so...dumb. I just don't understand what they could possibly have been thinking. It's such an obvious abuse of power, and for such ridiculous reasons.

See, this is where I think the yimbys overstate their case. It's less that @LeoForDurham is wrong here than that this ignores very valid concerns, especially environmental and sustainability issues.

Tonight was another example of how people with roofs over their heads have so much to say on why we need to slow down housing and control people moving here., etc. It’s simply amazing how some residents from the most privileged neighborhoods are the biggest NIMBYs.

@matt_lardie Good. Churches can build affordable housing. Having said that, I'm concerned about religious institutions profiting off rent - while it's illegal to discriminate around housing, I'm concerned that de facto, we may see issues for LGBTQ folks, etc.

More revenue means a larger tax base. To get a larger tax base, we need more people. More people means more housing. Yet @DeDreanaFreeman , @CMMoniqueHyman , and @MayorEONeal keep trying to kill any substantial development that would both expand the tax base and provide housing.

@revhowardarson You might want to read the Hebrew press. Israel only committed to having the weapons be handed out by the police or army, and to declare the militias as being support forces for them. In practice, the same militias are being armed with the same weapons.
