I was using

I may have invented a more comfortable Apple Vision Pro strap with just a baseball cap and a high tech rubber band.
It's not touching my face at all. Higher fov, better weight distribution, open periphery and eye tracking still works. It's super comfy. The cap's brim is carrying

Interesting to hear Sergey Brin talk about Google Glass, Apple Vision Pro and the “Oculuses”.
- Says “I feel like I messed up Google Glass”. Crowd goes “aww”. Adds that he would have done a bunch of things differently now. One of his mistakes being pushing it as a product when

Hey! Remember Realworld, the awesome app we've been working on? Well it's now called Wooorld (yes with three o's but it's pronounced World).

Omnidirectional floors are the red herring of VR. They don't solve anything and instead introduce more issues.
They appear to address simulation sickness in VR, caused by a sensory mismatch between your visual and vestibular systems. Let me oversimplify: in VR, when your eyes

For those who worry about the lack of controllers on Apple Vision Pro: You don't need controllers for artificial movement in VR. Here is the hand tracking alternative we built for Wooorld called 'Glider'. Pull it toward wherever you want to go. Pull it further to go faster.
What a shame that
@Google
killed Tango.
Video is from 2017!
Real-time meshing, hole filling, object segmentation, "room emptying, refurnishing, relighting", people detection, 0.17% drift over 8km loop, drone obstacle detection... *sigh*

Apple Vision Pro is very impressive. But what Quest 3 delivers for $500 is more impressive than what AVP does for $3,500.
Disclaimer: I know they are made for completely different purposes
People who actually know what's next are busy quietly building it. They certainly aren't on Twitter giving away that knowledge for free, one bold prediction at a time.
"Metaverse" is to the internet now, as "Information Superhighway" was to the internet in early 90's.
A placeholder term for the next iteration of the internet that will be forgotten once the internet becomes it.
We have been developing Wooorld using Cambria (Quest Pro) for the better part of the year. Here are some of my impressions about the device. AMA and I'll answer what I can.

Looks like Google is back in AR. They just posted a bunch of AR jobs (after nothing related to AR in about a year). Mostly hardware but there are some software openings as well. I like keeping an eye on these to get a sense of the industry.
The hardware battle's heating up...
Apple Vision Pro's Personas should prioritize abstraction over realism, and stylization over fidelity.
The human brain is remarkable at reconstructing faces with minimal 'suggestion'. Something like this would work much better:
No SoundCloud, but check out our app, Wooorld (

It's available on the Meta Quest and coming to Apple Vision Pro soon.

AR VR industry has changed a lot in the last 5 years but the discourse around core concepts seems to have stayed the same somehow. Might be a sign that we are due for a new generation of VR AR makers to come out of left field and shatter the rules. And I'm looking forward to it.
Not enough people are aware of Seurat by Google. A tool to create super-low-poly versions (quasi-light-field) of hi-poly scenes. Shelved & open-sourced after release (!). Lots of use cases in VR/AR. I'd love to see a community revival of it.

⚠ PSA: Do not lift the Apple Vision Pro by its fabric facial interface. The magnets holding it in place aren't strong enough to support the device's weight. It can easily detach and fall. The glass front won't like that.
For those of you wondering if Google's

Not many people picked up on how similar the Quest Pro form factor is to HoloLens 2. I think QP2 should definitely keep the open peripheral view and not try to copy Apple Vision Pro's face pad and strap design.
The monolithic design isn't doing justice to how slim the front
Smart glasses are doing for AR what cardboard did for VR. It's confusing consumers and developers will have to spend years explaining to them why, even though it looks like duck & it quacks like a duck, it's not a ducking duck.
I periodically check Google job posts to guess what they will kill next. Currently, there are 0 job posts for the following searches:
"Augmented Reality", "Virtual Reality", "AR", "VR", "Reality"
Is it too soon to assume ARCore is on the chopping block?
Pretty sad if not...
Holy 💩. How come I haven't seen this anywhere?

Rant: Leading XR companies need to start treating developers as the investors that they really are. Their entire value proposition is built on the hard work of tiny indie studios who invest their hard earned cash and more importantly time into their hardware, software & services

It's not even cute anymore how much ARCore has fallen behind ARKit...
In typical fashion Google started Project Tango a full 3 years before ARKit was announced. Tango was quickly scrapped and replaced with ARCore after Apple's announcement.

Interesting: Facebook's decision to rebrand to Meta and phase out the Oculus branding seems to have accidentally triggered Oculus' "Kleenex moment" in the US (as in, the Oculus brand became bigger than VR for the first time)
OK, wild idea. Reddit Place (remember?) but as a multiuser Tilt Brush festival. Instead of 1M x 1M pixels, it's 900 playspaces (30 x 30 grid), getting painted live over 24 hours. Each user picks a cell and paints for 10 minutes at a time.
We'll bring Wooorld to Apple Vision Pro.
For those unfamiliar, Wooorld is an immediate social platform for the real world. Already available on Meta Quest

For me, the best part of the device is the ergonomics. Balanced great thanks to the battery in the back. The only contact points are your forehead and the back of your head. Nothing on your face, especially your cheekbones. It's way more comfortable than the Quest 2.

Was just driving around with my 3 year old (quarantine entertainment). He asks if he can catch those buildings again. It took me a second to realize that he recognized the buildings from our 3D Earth app he tried in VR and Magic Leap. He had tried to grab the buildings.
If we had invented AR glasses before monitors, would this be a compelling pitch?:
What if you didn't have to wear glasses all the time and all of your favorite things were waiting for you at your desk? Introducing Monitor. Your window into the digital world, when you need it.
What would I like improved? A flip up display would be nice but I see the added complications and issues with accidental direct sunlight exposure etc. so I'm not holding my breath
Let me know if you have any questions.
And make sure to check out Wooorld

The pancake lenses make it hard to go back to anything with Fresnel lenses. Much more clear. It feels like the whole viewing area is "the sweet spot". There is also a perceived increase in FOV compared to Quest 2.

I present to you my FrankenQuest Pro 2. Open peripheral view and no face hugging, thank you very much.
Ingredients:
- 1 Quest 3 minus the facial interface
- 1 Bobo VR strap for Quest 2
- 2 Super-high-tech rubber bands
VisionOS 1.1 Beta is out. It lets you place bounded volumes much closer to yourself.
“Users will now be able to reposition volumetric scenes much closer than before, which will enable easier direct interaction with the volumetric scene content.”

Market is to small. Max 9 to 12 month runway with initial finding. Then the big milk ($COW) comes in and steals your entire customer base.
"AR Cloud" gets thrown around a lot. In reality the likely outcome is a super fragmented field of siloed AR Clouds owned by companies like Google, Microsoft, Apple, Facebook, Niantic, Snap etc. (some say Tesla, I'm not buying it)
What incentive do they have for openness?
The big race in AR revolves entirely around relocalization: Whose AR Anchor tech will be the best at figuring out their global coordinates?
Hardware is the icing.
