When on our first (and only) date he asked me if I liked a new song, said I hadn’t heard it, then he got out his phone and showed me my own like, that I didn’t even remember, talking bout but you liked it on ig??? un.fking.hinged.
Asia and Pacific Islands are not the same. Indonesians stop claiming blackness through West Papuans and stop denying their blackness because of your colonial geopolitics. Y’all could not be more transparently hypocritical trying to assert dominance over Melanesian identity.
The colonial period started in the 1800s and yt ppl had been coming to PNG since the 1500s. Communities that remained un-contacted by yt ppl for some time were still very much interconnected with the rest on PNG, they did not think they were “the only living ppl in the world” 🙄
Fuck sake man if another Polynesian tries to invalidate my identity or weaponise “mela/poly/micro are coloniser terms” against me, can I not be proud to be Melanesian?!?
Australian commentators calling the US purchase of the virgin islands from Denmark “a pretty good buy“ is a bit cringe y’all ever heard of colonisation

Omg I thought this was just a queer page but it’s…. any other Islanders feeling weird about the immediate sexualisation of our men in traditional wear or am I overreacting???

Using our myth to make some liberal bullshit about “America healing” when actual Islanders have faced US imperialism for generations, nuclear testing, military abuse, colonialism, unequal voting rights and everything else from West Papua to Hawaii, this is so tone deaf
Too many of y’all have something against not just Melanesians but specifically PNGs and I need that anti-black/poly-centric attitude checked at the mf door
Melanesians have to get though their heads that our blackness has everything to do with our own history and nothing to do with the experience of the African diaspora. And using blackbirding to give yourself a n-word pass? Get help 🤦🏽♀️

Wtf are you on about! Indigenous Australians were not wiped out, they were subjected to genocide but that was because of colonialism nothing else. No one can avoid genocide by being a “warrior” race. I bet you don’t even realise how disgustingly coded you’re language is here 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
@IfuekoNadine
@goldenpolaroid
Exactly that! When Harry said she would’ve been their greatest asset but they just couldn’t bring themselves to accept her 💀
Indonesian saying “ignorant” Vanuatu has an “excessive and unhealthy obsession” for speaking out on human rights abuses against the indigenous people of West Papua. Ikyfl.
@comrademika
@notkasamang
While you make fantastic points, don’t see how it’s relevant to the work this actual community organisation does, which is largely mutual aid call outs for indigenous sex workers in Australia, hence the name of the org and this art with the indigenous flags

They did a Hilary Clinton episode to support her presidential run, she also had a cameo, and it was really cringe and unfortunate and lowkey ruined the popularity of the show

We are Melanesians indigenous to the Pacific Islands NOT Asian. The people in this photo are West Papuans not PNG, Indonesia invaded the half of our island. Please don’t speak for us if you are uninformed, I understand you think it raises awareness but it does more harm than good
This is what white boys should aspire to look like btw. Like be a loser. If you have a good body you should be covering that in a flannel/hoodie/winter coat. If you have a handsome face you should hide that behind glasses and long curly unkempt hair. Like that’s real sex appeal.
I don’t want to minimise blackbirding in Polynesia but it’s starting to really annoy me how y’all are weaponising slavery in the Pacific, when Melanesians actually have more traumatic connection to thats history, to be anti-black against ppl of African descent and use the n-word
What I wanna talk about is why every time a Melanesian brings this up Polys are in the comments talking bout “those labels were made by white men to divide us” as if that isn’t just stripping Melanesians of our agency, identity, and ability to advocate for ourselves even more 😒

Why are you all over this thread defending this coloniser??? Even IF Maori traded you’re taking that act out of the specific violent context of NZ colonisation. Not to mention the disrespect with displaying the heads. Brits also have a history of dodgy trade agreements with Maori
Tonga (as always), Tuvalu and The Solomon Islands really showed out with the traditional wear, PNG repping with the bilums and that Cook Islands dress looking straight from Pacific fashion week. The Islands did that 🥰

Read this from the museum a couple years ago as a matter on interest and lets just say the arrogance of colonisers never ceases to amaze me. Self determination over coloniser “conservation” and “collaboration” always
